    That's clever how you modified the sound, but if I heard that music when I was on hold on the telephone, I would probably not be happy.😄

    Amazing. In 1987 I made a gift for my fiancee (then) by building a melody box using this UM3482A chip. We just found that in our collection box. It is not working. Appreciate if you can help in troubleshooting this little circuit. I am totally out of touch with such stuff but we both are exited to find your video and thought that we may be able salvage it. Thank you.

    Those sounds like in the last part... no, not at all like C64 or Atari. But i have heard them sometimes employed on ZX Spectrum and in something like... watch circuits? game-and-watch clones?
    What the chip really needs to sound genuinely pleasant is a sawtooth generator, where you integrate the signal over time and reset it on the edge. Sawtooth has a faster decay than pulse wave but it includes even and odd harmonics, rather than the pulse wave consisting only off the odd harmonics. Additionally some lowpass filter with resonance won't hurt.

    Recently I started messing around with discrete IC’s and digital logic IC’s to create an LED multiplexer. Finally got my circuit working in SPICE, now to build it and see if it actually works. I wanted to avoid using a MCU for this project and use off the shelve components.
    The final circuit will have ~200 LED’s being multiplexed and driven by the digital IC’s.

      Hopefully you can build it in smaller sections for testing before building something that big in case there’s any wiring mistakes.

      Thankfully I have used the frequency phase shifting I’m using before so I know that works. Planning to build the multiplexing the circuit, maybe do a PCB for it and testing that before building the whole thing with LED’s.

    I own a Nichols Electronics Digital II ice cream truck music chime box, and it has 8 songs on it. I'm pretty sure it uses this same chip because the pitch/speed adjustment you mentioned at 2:12 is done through an internal pot located inside of the chime box itself. It uses a square wave synth chime as well, but that's all I know about it. I have videos on my channel of my box, and I am going to post a video showing how to change the pitch/speed on it soon Cool video by the way. Nichols also used this chip on the now discontinued Omni music box, witch had 32 songs divided into two channels of 16 songs each.

      It doesn't use a UM3482A. But there are other melody ICs that have oscillation.

    I wonder how that audio is programmed into it? Some sort of direct-to-silicon ROM array?

      I think the data sheet said masked ROM so it was just part of the structure.

      I have either that or something similar in the same family on order from Aliexpress. I never had one back in the day but I recently found out about it.

    U need to use 2 transistor circuit (not low-cost application circuit with 1 transistor) to emulate 3 instruments.

      Multi instrument tones come from pins 10 and 11 and pin 9 as used in low-cost application only sends just beeps.
