  • Wallis and Futuna, officially the Territory of the Wallis and Futuna Islands (French: Wallis et Futuna or Territoire des îles Wallis et Futuna, Fakauvea and Fakafutuna: Uvea mo Futuna), is a Polynesian French island territory in the South Pacific between Tuvalu to the northwest, Rotuma of Fiji to the west, the main part of Fiji to the southwest, Tonga to the southeast, Samoa to the east, the New Zealand-associated state of Tokelau to the northeast and to a more distant north the Phoenix Islands (Kiribati).

As a Fijian...l'm always a big fan of the Soamako dances..learning the history of these islands..no wonder the people have Tongan names(almost) but speak a language identical to Samoa.Apart from Tonga and Samoa..there are Fijians who can trace back their ancestry to Uvea/Vutuna..such a small World we live in..

As a Tongan, I humbly accept our defeat in other islands, proud or not...it's the truth. We were defeated by Samoa and then Futuna soon after the Tongan Empire. We Tongans never deny that, instead (while watching our neighbors' lands taken over by white men) we continue to fight for our freedom from the hands of Europe and managed to sustain our Monarchy. That's all we're proud of, don't try to mess up history when it is already there, you can twist the stories, but that wont change the past!

I don't deny the fact that we're half Samoans, even though we have our own culture and stuff but still we all know that the Samoan couple 'Mago & Tafaleata' had a huge impact on Futuna :) They gave birth to my ancestors, well-shaped warriors as you can see in the video 3:36. The Samoan couple also gave birth to our first king 'Fakavelikele' who defeated the Tongans invasion in both islands 'Uvea&Futuna' so I guess we're very grateful for that ;) Alofa Atu Bro'

Samoan myself - sad we SAMOANS and TONGANS don’t realise we are the same family. Secondly I really feel most don’t look outside the box because of our individual pride in the SAMOAN or TONGAN accomplishments of our superstars.
Respectfully - do Tongans and Samoans pay attention to the national FLAGS??
Just saying - we don’t realise we’ve been silently taken over by Christianity.
When you start to look you’ll realise what we think we know about ourselves and our history of ruling Polynesia is almost true - little left of centre.
Third - does anyone not realise we are looking to the last 300 - 500 years of supposed history.
Why don’t SAMOANS in Samoa and TONGANS know anything about the HIDDEN ANCIENT megalithic structures Eg. PULEMELEI

@@Tagueulefranchement that was because Mata'afa & his army killed so many British, American & German soldiers when they tried to back the rival king of their choice. Matata defeat them in the battle of Vailele two times & many more battles. The battle of Vailele was the most shameful because he defeated the Samoa chief and his men & the British, American & Germans that betray Mata'afa. In the battle called the seige of Apia, the British & American with their warships, team up with rival Samoan king & his men. They send a letter to Mata'afa to surrender and hand himself in, instead of listening to these foreigners Mata'afa turns around orders his army to surround Apia, they began evicting all the foreigners in town, 1400 men with war clubs & guns, were waiting to run in. While the rest were in ambush position. The opposition began firing from their warships & war broke out. Just in this battle alone, British had about 260+ killed, American 500+killed, Samoan rival king army of 2000, 700 killed. They called Mata'afa people Mata'afanites. In battle of Vailele they bombed, shelled & sprayed bullets into the villages of Mata'afa supporters for over two months, killing many innocent women and children. In response Mata'afa destroyed the german plantation, wiped out 60 German soldiers & lured the soldiers on the warships in land where he and his army were waiting in ambush, when the soldiers came close enough, all Mata'afa warriors began slaughtering them and cutting their heads off sending the rest of the soldiers running for their lives. The soldiers bodies were taken back to the village where the families unleashed their fury upon them, throwing spears threw them, clubbing, spitting, dragging the body around the village, hanging them up. The british & American sent missionaries with relationship with the people to retrieve the bodies of the soldiers. They have continuously changed the death count of their soldiers out of embarrassment. Even their newspapers were publishing about them mustering all their military power they had available just fight against Mata'afa and his warriors. The American in charge said Mata'afa was the Samoan version of Washington in DC, everyone obeyed his commands and no matter how many times they tried to beat him, kill him, outsmart him, they lost. Mata'afa is the grandfather of the first Samoan Priminster & the great grandfather of our current Priminster, Fiame Mata'afa. The foreigner empires decided no matter who became king they must never allow Mata'afa to become king, because he was to dangerous & daring, did not obey them & was a real warrior of Samoa. They needed to make sure they could install someone they could control. The only time they won is by betraying both Samoan kings into a treaty & after disarming the country they cowardly annex Samoa without any Samoan representative present. This was also because Malietoa the king agreed to join king Kalakaua of Hawaii in the formation of the Polyneasian confederacy. King Kalakaua sent a ship called Kaimiloa to Apia harbour with the diplomatic mission to form a Polyneasian confederacy with Samoa and Tonga as they were the only sovereign nations left in the pacific at the time. The plan was to unite Hawaii, Samoa & Tonga, then graft in the other islands, this was a massive threat by to the foreigners who wanted to control the pacific highway & form a navy force, bases & ports loyal to them. Because Malietoa joined the Polyneasian confederacy they banished him & used the excuse of a growing Japanese threat to annex Hawaii, the truth is king Kalakaua travelled to Japan & met with the Japanese Emperor, shared the Polyneasian confederacy idea & this got the palagi empires butt hurt. They didn't want us to unite all of our people 100 years ago, they wanted us divided & lost. We should now complete the Polyneasian confederacy & unite all islands into one pacific kingdom.

Dude don't forget that Futuna are Tonga's descendants! Little did everyone know that Tongans just fought each other in other territories to which the Tongans who decide to stay in Futuna WON the battle. Original Tongans then pulled out and took back with them the meetupaki to the Mother Land. Don't be too proud of saying that Tonga didnt rule over you when France did by force. If I were you, I would NEVER mention about being strong. But we Tongans will always remember you as part of us. 'Ofa atu

@@blessedMMAz excuse our Tongan brothers ignorance, he doesn't know the history of Futuna and Uvea nor does he know that the british that signed the treaty agreement with their king extracted minerals and resources from all their protectorate countries including Tonga, such as their vanilla industry. He also doesn't know that the british monarchy amended their treaty agreement giving them veto power over the day to day lives of Tongans, they had control over all Tongan foreign affairs, finance as well, they are the reason Tonga was not colonized as they protected Tonga king from other tongan chiefs and foreigners who were eyeing his throne. This is recorded in the American history site on the treaty's of the world, you can read where they amended the treaty agreement, this is why they changed the Taulaga dance from itself original way it was done like samoas because it was to rough and offensive, this also why they banned the Pe'a in Tongan pushed for their Tongan subjects to wear Taovala instead. This secret has been kept between the Tongan royal family and the British royal family to save face. The Tongan royals tell their people constantly that they were never colonized and teach their people that their protectorate treaty agreement with Great Britain was mutual however the truth is much more embarrassing, have a read:
"Treaty of Friendship and Protectorship, 1900.
In 1900 the King of Tonga signed a Treaty of Friendship and Protectorship with Great Britain. The treaty DELEGATED SOLE AUTHORITY of TONGAN FOREIGN RELATIONS to the BRITISH Foreign Office, although it maintained Tongan autonomy. Subsequent AMENDMENTS to this agreement gave further POWERS over INTERNAL Tongan AFFAIRS to the BRITISH, thus ERODING the true AUTONOMY of Tonga."
Do we understand what this means ? The british amended the agreement just like they did the Moari over but the King of Tonga being smart played his cards right until he was able to free himself from the treaty making Tonga independent in 1970 joining Fiji who became independent in 1970 also. Samoa being the first Island in the pacific to become independent from all foerigners in 1962, 8 years before Tonga & Fiji.
Knowing the truth I feel embarrassed for my Tongan brothers when I hear them carry on about them being the only monarch but how painful it will be when they find out the truth.
Here's the site, they don't even hide it:

Da heck? We were already there, there's a myth about how a Samoan couple came in our island in a coconut, 'Mago' and that's when our language has been mixed with theirs and by the way our language is only similar to Samoan, not Tongans!

    • @anakeleiriatai243
      @anakeleiriatai243 3 ปีที่แล้ว

There's some truth in this history! But everyone forgot that when "Mago and Tafaleata" came to Futuna, Tamolevai and Saufekai (from Malietoa Royal family) has already been there.
That's why our language is very close to sāmoa dialect.

LOL What do you mean ? You're saying that Tonga took over Futuna ? Mate you're ''definitely'' wrong for your information if it's the case. Tongans came in Futuna but we kicked them out the first day they came in, that's why there's a cemetery in my village (Alo,Taoa) Tongans didn't overrule us mate. They took over Uvea only but we helped em' to kick the Tongans out and we did it successfully ;), By the way don't forget that Tonga never had a chance to overrule us, we were too strong for them' ;)
