I have a 1976 IH Cub 1250. I take the deck off every winter for snow plowing. I clean top and bottom of the deck very well, if needed I will lightly sand blast the underside of the deck and reapply rust inhibitor primer and paint with 3 coats of clear coat. I usually have to reapply paint/clear coat once every 3-4 years. The clear coat really helps keep grass from sticking to the underside of the deck. The old 1976 deck looks like the day it was bought every year when I put it back on in the spring.

Very nice! Great job. Taking care of a piece of equipment like that will make it last much longer than the newer stuff of today.

All mower decks should be that easy to remove. Most of them have a bunch of cotter pins and then you have to guide the belt back on....lots of work. I like those classic IH Cub Cadets. 👍 Thanks for sharing Chad!

Great point! These older machines were made for "do it yourself" maintenance. I think most of the newer ones tend to be designed to require "professional service". Thanks for watching!

My John Deere 1025R, and it's drive over 60D deck, has absolutely spoiled me. I now hate having to disconnect and slide the 42 Edge deck out from under our John Deere X300. But you know.... I don't remember doing it so badly when I was younger!

Great point! I've never owned a drive-over deck. Maybe our abilities will be valuable in the future when not that many people will know how to do the decks that aren't automatic. :)

    What belt do you use?

Hi Dustin - I wish I remembered the part number. I usually just call the IH dealer and they have the belt I need in stock.
