I think when people are brought into react it just elevates the experience because you are in a venn diagram with more complicated interactions between the circles - so cool and thanks for your time doing this for us

This is the perfect song for Robyn. Ren has become a voice for the voiceless & those who've been Gaslit by the Medical industry.. The self harm incident is covered in his Chapters. it's like he just wanted to feel something/anything. Another great reaction.

The STEM Cell doctor reached out to REN; hence when he sings 'But then man, lo and behold, I heard this Angel beckon on this treacherous road'. The Angel called Ren. I suspect that because Ren was already virtually very thin that the STEM Cell treatment had an effect on his body; it does not always work. By then, the damage was done to his nervous system. There is actually a video of Ren at the clinic receiving the treatment, or rather the part where they use liposuction to pull fat cells out of his body. Ren had very little fat to work with; it looked painful.

Recommendation for Robyn, react to Suicide and For Joe. Those tracks are absolutely phenomenal on their own, but the story behind it is just next level.

If I could recommend 2 under-reacted to tracks for you to react to : "pocket full of pain" and "Do you believe"

Enoying Robyn's take, not so much for a reaction but i think Robyn would enjoy something on his other channel 'RenMakesStuff' He has 8 Chapters where he talks about his journey with a song at the end , incredible what he went/came through❤

Ren absolutely got the treatment because of the position he was in... it wasn't his music, though. He was health vlogging. He'd created a whole community while he couldn't produce music and he was vlogging because he wanted to leave a legacy that might help someone else when he was gone. The stem cell specialist came across his vlog and offered him treatment.
The thing is, though, Ren is aware his music afforded him opportunities others don't have even when he wasn't making much money, but especially now. That's actually the entire purpose of this song. He promised he wouldn't let the people he had to leave behind be forgotten. This song was part of that promise - he released it for ME awareness month. It was the first song about chronic illness to chart, which was his intent. He makes music for himself and to help others hope, but he's also doing more in the background. He's donating money, funding treatments and is hinting at a project he's working on to help make a physical space for chronic illness patients in the UK. There are people who give him a lot of flack for making his illness a huge part of his musical identity but he feels a responsibility to be a voice for the voiceless.
At the end of the song when he says "everything I am is yours to hold" he looks at the camera as if talking to viewers rather than a god. Leading up to this song he released 8 autobiographical "chapters" giving a more in-depth look into his struggles. He flat out said it was uncomfortable and sharing so much of himself left less of him for himself. But he had to in order to facilitate understanding and hope.

Anyone that criticises the use of his life experience with chronic illness in his music is lucky to be in a situation where they don’t understand why he’d do that, but are too ignorance and selfish to know that

I think it´s a very good idea to invite people from the outside to react to videos on this platform. Not only do you get the audience of their members to witness your channel but you grow your awesome community with the right people to represent it to the world. You are doing amazing work.

I think there’s another level to the self harm that you didn’t cover: cause and effect. Ren still didn’t know what was wrong with him at that time. But there’s a very clear connection between stabbing himself and the blood/pain that it results in. I imagine there’s a sort of comfort in that when every question about your health is “answered with a question on the end”.

Sorry but did you not know he had undiagnosed Lyme's disease for years? "Waking up bitten" by a tick. It was ravaging his body while he was being dismissed &/or given psych meds which either didn't help or were actually harmful. Eventually he slipped into stress-induced psychosis. Can you imagine being so horribly ill while being told you aren't & treated like a hypochondriac? Only Ren's incredible strength & persistence led him back to life. Massive searches online led him to a study of children, which led him to the suspicion that what he had was pathogenic, which was eventually confirmed by a doctor in Brussels. Massive amts. of antibiotics were what he needed. The UK health system & every doctor in it, failed him in every way.
It was during the time that he was misdiagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome that he contributed his song, Patience, to a film about ME. The stem cell doc saw that & contacted him. That treatment brought him "out of the cold" but it wasn't a cure. Unfortunately, neither was the 18 months of treatment he received in Calgary. He's had a devastating relapse & is only very recently doing better.

Yes, it seems much more like his mental health deteriorated because the body got worse while they kept telling him it was in his head, basically. On top of that, the mood/mind altering meds that he shouldn't have been taking did a big number. Not so much that his physical symptoms got worse because of the mental state. Heck, he was in as good a mental state as probably ever when his recent setback occurred.

As someone who used to be a cutter due to trauma... for me, I had to way to relieve my mental and physical pain. Cutting, bloodletting, was a way for me to release what I could not. Tough to explain, but that is my best and yes, it was also something I could control

I found it fascinating that he described it being like an elastic band that stretches until it snaps back. I said nearly the same thing years ago about something painful I was dealing with, except I said it was a bungee cord. I had to figure out how to unhook the ends from each other to be free of it.
To add to the conversation about why self harm can be a "release" of sorts: for me there's an element of perseveration that would lead me to self harming. The jolt of it would often break me out of being stuck in the negative thought pattern. And then there's the physiological response of the body releasing endorphins when there's an injury.
