There were a series of wholehearted challenges leading up to the Simpson challenge. No one knew the severity of the consequences of the challenge at the time and the media commentators certainly were not "up in arms" with their comments when it was made. The tackle had bad consequences for Mr Durrant, certainly, but arguably affected Mr Simpson to a greater degree with the adverse Glasgow media coverage! I was there at the game, by the way, and the atmosphere was vicious with a particular edge in that Mr Couper, appearing in a blue shirt, and, as I recall, scoring a 30 years screamer!! Happy Days

Even though the game was more physical back then I can't believe Simpson wasn't sent off. If that was Souness that made that "tackle" he would have been sent off no doubt. He would've been banned for weeks too.
