It's not just range.. it's knockback and range.. !!
battle would be entirely different if you placed stormtroopers in the center.. and surrounded them with droids.. the knockback from the droid blasters is the reasons droids are winning most of these fights.. they push the stormtroopers back with knockback and then defeat them with range and more damage from firepower... if you want to even the odds... surround the droids from the outside and place a small contingent of stormtroopers in the center.. and win... with the same amount of droids / stormtroopers..
