Wishing you all a very Happy Winter Solstice ❤ Thank you so much for watching our videos from here in the north-we truly appreciate you taking the time 🥰
I am also trying to learn the way of the sourdough. This lady seems to be the sourdough queen. She uses it everyday for all kinds of things. Her website has tons and tons of free recipes. youtube.com/@farmhouseonboone?si=S2sqZJiUyIMJxoFo
Lay your parchment on the counter, dump your bread onto the parchment, then score. Pick up your parchment paper with the bread on it and drop it into the cast iron pot. Sourdough is really not very complicated, and very forgiving. I've had my starter going for 14 years. You will learn over time what the dough should look like in each step. My Wyoming kitchen is cold, so I have to let my bread raise near the woodstove. It turned out great!
When Christine's parents see this video, and how hard you tried to make a perfect loaf of bread for them, they will love you even more than they already do. It looked delicious! Happy holidays to you and yours - I can't believe August is already 8 months - beautiful boy!
I am 67 and way back in high school four of us girls would bring snacks to share together. One day a girl brought the best sough dough bread in the world and I had brought fresh crisp green bell peppers. It was the best snack I have ever had. We continued that tradition for years. Your bread looked delightful! Thanks for the memories!
Your videos are some of the only ones I manage to watch without feeling the need to be "productive on the side", because - as much as I hate to admit it - my attention span grows shorter and shorter each week. To me, they provide genuine entertainment and I always feel like I want to honor the skill and love that you put into your videos. A very happy Christmas time to you, Christine, August, Tuss and Nala! xx
Great job on the bread. Warm homemade bread with butter has got to be one of the best things on this planet. You can create a constant temperature by placing your dough in the oven with the oven light on.
Hello!!! I bake sourdough alot! My helpful hint is to place your parchment paper on top of your dough, to flip it on the counter on top of the parchment. Then do your slits on it. Be sure to have a long enough piece of parchment paper to hold on two sides to lower it into your Dutch oven. I hope that makes sense to you.
When you take your bread out of the bowl, put it right on your parchment paper. Then cut out your design, grab parchment paper and place down in your pot. You baked a beautiful sourdough bread for your first time. When i first started making it I struggled. It's because i was trying too hard. Now sourdough is so easy that I make all our breads as a sourdough. Buns, rolls, bread, and anything that involves flour, I put sourdough in it. ❤ Great video. I tried taking a cold bath once because i was desperate to bring down a fever that was causing so much pain and inflammation. It was like torture and I never done it again. 😂😂😂😂
I totally get what you said about the value of physical work outside for the body and mind, even if it is as (mentally) "simple" as snow shoveling. There's more and more scientific knowledge around the whole topic of how our brain's wiring requires us to be more outdoors, more in nature, more physically active and more uncomfortable in order to stay mentally stable and happy. It'd surely be an interesting topic to discuss on one of your next Cabin Talks. Literature I found very interesting around this includes: Nature Fix by Florence Williams, Grounded by Ruth Allen, Losing Eden by Lucy Jones, At Home in Nature by Rob Wood, and Adventure Revolution by Belinda Kirk. Merry Christmas & a happy winter solstice!
That’s a really great first loaf!👏🏼It’s wild how different they can turn out with just tiny changes. Using the parchment paper to transfer the loaf will make that last step way easier! Happy solstice to you guys! ❄️✨
I love how you are so realistic. When doing new projects like your bread. The internet needs more real people doing imperfect things like experimenting with bread and hoping it turns out. I love the relatability! Happy new year!
Your camera work is really good. The beauty you captured is breathtaking. The northern lights, the wildlife, the lighting. Amazing! Sweden is very beautiful. Also August is a beautiful child. You have created a wonderful life. ❤
Yes! I haven’t been shoeing in years. My Dad used to wake me up in the middle of the night, on our first “big fall” of the year, and we’d go shoeing under the moonlight…one of my most cherished core memories.
Happy Hollidays for you all! 25:13 I bake a lot of sourdough bread and experiments have taught me that everybody does it a little bit differently and just by trying and doing you find your own way. That is what I like about it! It looks great for a first time bread. 😊 When you live in a house where the temperature is not that high you can also proof the bread in the oven. Just warm it to +/- 40 degrees Celsius and put the bowl with cover inside and turn the oven off. After the fold you can warm the oven up again.
Sourdough bread is much easier than the internet would have you believe 😊. Your first loaf looked great! I am making sourdough dinner rolls for Christmas tomorrow. Best wishes to your family in the new year.
Your bread is beautiful! Merry Yule to you and Christine and August. I usually put the parchment into the bowl for the second rise then lift it out by the parchment into the pot. It's just practice, but you're already doing so well.
Lovely property!! But, you either need a tractor with a plow on it, or a Range Rover (because it's sits higher than a car). Living in the woods requires different tools to help you live. 😊. My husband and I live rural too. We have a big pickup truck and a small tractor.
Your videos are so interesting to me. I am 35% or so of Swedish heritage- both immigrants were Peterson families but from different regions. I have found one Swedish cousin through DNA testing - we are Facebook friends. 4th cousins! I have always wondered about the darkness in winter. Thank you so much for sharing your life with us!
How about applying to the show Allt för Sverige, where Americans of Swedish descent come to Sweden to find out more about their forefathers and the country, culture etc. (I love that show!)
As a Swede with 100% Scandinavian DNA whose most ancestors left for the US and Canada I would happily give you a tour if you ever visited! We're only ones left of my family
Happy Solstice Kalle and family! As always I absolutely love your videos, living in Devon so different to here., thank you so much. Your sour dough episode makes me smile, I have been making it every week or so for the last 4 years and remember so well how complicated it seemed….as far as I can tell, as long as you have the starter and right ingredients and leave it to rise over night it just works, I don’t worry I about kneeling in a machine; just fold it a few times if and when I remember then in the morning cut it into desired shapes with scissors and bake…makes great rolls too, perfect for breakfast…great to add seeds or fruit or rosemary and garlic; no recipe; just have fun with it. Bizarre , but handling the dough with wet hands makes it much more manageable so I have given up working it with flour, much easier. Enjoy
I love being emersed in your slow paced of life. It is sometimes hard to find a still and quiet space to rest your mind. Thank you for sharing your world. Happy holidays 🎄
I also started my sourdough journey last spring, and yeah it takes some practice. But once you learn from mistakes it's not that hard i promise ;). I actually often skip a lot of steps and it turns out fine! (Usually mix the ingredients in the evening, then let it rise overnight and in the morning reshape, and 1+ hour in the fridge, then bake) good luck and thanks for all your great videos, you're definitely one of my favorite youtubers 😊
Great job and I am so impressed by you wanting to learn how to bake sourdough bread. I have learned how to bake sourdough bread about a year ago. It is so satisfying and fun. I find it easiest to turn your loaf from the fridge directly onto a large piece of parchment paper . Then score the top of your bread and grab the parchment paper with your bread and drop into your preheated Dutch oven. You can always trim the paper if there is too much overhang before you put the lid on top. I think your loaf turned out amazing ❤
I had to laugh when you were stressing about making bread, I feel like bread is pretty forgivable when making it. I was the same way when I started making it and then it always seemed to turn out good. Happy Winter Solstice to you all!
Dear Kalle, wish you and your beloved ones (on two 👨👩👦and four legs🐾) a delightful solstice/midwinter season and party. The bread looks good. I think with training you'll be a master breadbaker and impress us all😉. Med ❤lig hälsning från Värmland/Andrea
Wishing you a happy New Year! Your training of your son will be vital to his future. You both keep it together, understanding the ups and downs in your relationship and parenting. Please keep thinking years ahead, filling in the now to achieve your future.
Enjoy watching your log cabin adventures. Sourdough can be pretty tricky when you first do it. Don’t be swayed by all the technical know how online, you want to get some basic pointers only. As you progress you’ll find your own methods and ways of making it. With practice comes success as with most things in life
Happy Holidays to you and your family from Canada. I admire you for trying something so seemingly complicated. I am sitting here (a dog beside me on her chair) admiring the 4 lit adventscandles on their bed of fresh Juniper Riceporage, gingerbread cookies and little tomte figures everywhere
I checked the map and we live a little bit northern in Finland than you are located in Sweden. Our day is 3 hours and 41 minutes long today, 23th of December 🙂 sun goes up at 10:27 and down 14:08. But now it starts to get longer. Happy Christmas time for you and your family! 🎄
Kalle, when you have sawed out the ice block, just push it down a bit and let it slide underneath the other ice, that way you don’t have to split it or take it out of the water. Thanks for another great video!
I'm in the same situation with sour bread now - been doing research and it was too overwhelming as well, but now that I see you doing it.. it must be a sign, I have to do it! Thank you and Merry Christmas from Latvia! Heart.
It's so good to see snow again sorry you had to shovel, I used to like it and hate it too. :D You and your ice bath's but I liked the intensity with Nordic-ish music Sour dough is HARD, you did great!!! I keep trying to answer the marriage question as to why everyone else cares but maybe they are just impatient. Merry Christmas and a Happy, Healthy and Prosperous 2025 to you, Christine, precious August and your 2 beautiful doggies! ☃🎄🕯Thank you for sharing your wonderful and inspiring videos with us X
Omg, I laughed so hard when you made the dough and it got later and later 😂😂 - that's exactly what I did the other day, only difference, I got so tired that I just left the dough to prove outside & what shall I say: the birds loved it 😂😂😂 (so I'm in the midst of sour dough struggles as well)
The days grow longer, but here it's also the coldest part of winter. Last winter we didn't get much snow. This summer all the water levels in the lakes were low. Do many snowmobile there? Is your vehicle 4wd? What about ice fishing? Do you use tips for ice fishing? Do fish bite there at dusk and dawn like they do here?
I make whole-wheat sourdough bread. It’s been trial and error as I’ve learned however I love making it. I don’t use a mixer just use my hands. I learned off TH-cam. Enjoy.👏
Waiting for snow here - we miss it a lot . Can you get restoration / preservation grants to help with costs of restoring the old farms and homesteads? Great to see so many people interested in moving there:)
Christina and August are so beautiful, Kalle. He is such a contented little one, and Christina just beams in motherhood. Yikes, you submerging yourself in that ice water took my breath away! It is amazing the human body can take that! I totally appreciate folks who do it! Wow! Your bread turned out beautiful! I love your surprised reaction when you took the lid off the kettle!! Wishing you, Christine, August, and your families a wonderful holiday! Love from Pennsylvania, USA💕🌷🐻
Waiting for snow here - we miss it a lot . Can you get restoration / preservation grants to help with costs of restoring the old farms and homesteads? Great to see so many people interested in moving there:) Watched a video about making old Viking "rocket stove" log torch/fires.. they lined the pathway s with them and lit up the dark- a couple of those outside the cabin will brighten up the " night".
Such a beautiful video. Thanks so much for sharing. Merry Christmas and happy new year 🫶🫶🫶⭐️⭐️⭐️😊😊😊😘😘😘🎄🎄🎄🎄🎅🎅🎅 we’re empty nesters. We’re so excited to share the holidays with our daughters & son in law. We’ve been preparing & enjoying every moment. God bless you and your beautiful family 🫶🫶🫶
Your submerging in the iced water remind me a pic my grandma Catalina showed me with a bit more daylight but entering in the hole with a bkack swim suit. Thank you for make me remember this precious memories. I believe she was in Rumania in that time.
Your loaf turned out great! I’ve been baking with sourdough since last summer when good, organic bread went up to $6 USD/ loaf. Over time you learn your own tricks and get into a nice rhythm of baking. Keep us updated! I can recommend the blog Farmhouse on Boone for different ideas on using starter. My kids *love* her pancake recipe.
Hello, Your bread looks beautiful, Love your prints so pretty , wow you must be use to the ice bath to be able to stay in there. Happy Holidays to you and your family.
I've not experienced the short winter days you have in Sweden, but it comes across as peaceful and inspiring introspection. I supposed as long as one is living an intentional life, this can be the advantage. Your home is so beautiful with the white lights in the ice blue darkness.
Yes to me it's very peaceful and calming. But I can admit I was quite scared of the dark in the beginning, but now I've learned to live with it 😊 Thank you ❤
Your bread looked amazing, I would have been very happy if I had done that. Sourdough bread is something I would like to make, but it seems so complicated that I backed off and have never given it a try, so good for you for giving it a go and producing a fine 🍞😋. Don't know how you could plunge yourself into the freezing cold water though, that is something I didn't want to do 🤣. I've said this before but I'm gonna say it again, your baby is so adorable, and your fur baby is gorgeous too. Enjoyed watching, see you soon, take care.....🥰🇬🇧🐾🐾🏡🎄❄️🎀💕🍞👍
Wishing you all a very Happy Winter Solstice ❤ Thank you so much for watching our videos from here in the north-we truly appreciate you taking the time 🥰
You can put the dough on paper, then put it in a mold (then the paper won't press) and then slice it.
I am also trying to learn the way of the sourdough. This lady seems to be the sourdough queen. She uses it everyday for all kinds of things. Her website has tons and tons of free recipes.

Kalle well done with the dough, it does happen to me when trying something new and pretty sure sure to others too. At least you tried 😊
Mesmerizing (and appetizing!) Midvinter ways of life to us living down south 🤩 Beautiful, August and his little antenna! 😍
❤❤❤👍🇸🇪🇸🇪🇸🇪

That's like the best review ever 🥰 thank you so much for saying that ❤️
I feel the same. I usually listen to vlogs while crocheting, but I always watch these.
@@MiriamLove366 That makes me really happy! 🥰❤
Great job on the bread. Warm homemade bread with butter has got to be one of the best things on this planet. You can create a constant temperature by placing your dough in the oven with the oven light on.
The ice baths have always fascinated me. I admire people who can do it. You baking the bread is so precious. ❤❤❤
You must be completely healthy to take a eis bath, no high pressure, or hearth problems.

Lovely video,Kalle🎉🎉 Enjoyed it sssoooo much, especially the bread making❤❤😊😊
GORGEOUS loaf of sourdough (my favorite kind of bread). I wonder how it would work with limpa!

I'm so enjoying you learning how to make sour dough bread and making mistakes. Happy Mid Vinter Kalle

Happy holidays to you Kalle and you'r family ❤
Happy holidays Mia ❤
I'm in the same situation with sour bread now - been doing research and it was too overwhelming as well, but now that I see you doing it.. it must be a sign, I have to do it! Thank you and Merry Christmas from Latvia! Heart.
Beautiful bread Kalle! I'm impressed. The loaf looks like bread by a very seasoned baker!
It's so good to see snow again sorry you had to shovel, I used to like it and hate it too. :D You and your ice bath's but I liked the intensity with Nordic-ish music
Sour dough is HARD, you did great!!!
I keep trying to answer the marriage question as to why everyone else cares but maybe they are just impatient. LOL, I already consider you guy's married because your sharing your live's together already in every way. I think the marriage part is just that outward show that everyone else now understands that this is the decision you have made for your lives together.
The ice pictures are amazing! And your bread is beautiful, I home it was delicious.❤

But I can admit I was quite scared of the dark in the beginning, but now I've learned to live with it 😊 Thank you ❤
perfect bread
Happy solstice and warm holidays among your family.. all the best for 2025🎉✨️🎄
And the same to you 🥰❤️
Wishing you and everyone all the best of everything!
I would put the bread on top of the parchment paper and then lower the bread into the pot by holding the paper .
