As he is still intact, keep an eye on any aggressive coming from other males, especially if one of your females comes into breeding season. However, you said that it was understandable for someone to beat a dog, for whatever reason.
I highly disagree. There is never a reason good enough to beat and abuse a child nor an animal. The child that was bitten may have been hurting the dog and what happened to the dog after was despicable.
