Thanks for making your vibrato suck less by watching this video!!!! Who is your favorite top shaker?! ALSO: go rent/buy Psycho Goreman NOW! It’s on Amazon and I am OBSESSED!
Marty Friedman absolute number one. Mikael Åkerefeldt and Dime also among my favourites. Andy LaRocque and Arjen-Anthony Lucassen to complete my top five.
"shake it more than twice and now you're playing with yourself" is one of my favourite lines from 2021 already. XD Thanks for the bending vibrato lesson. Much needed. XD
He he i am not easy to laugh but at 0:37 i was a little caught off guard! Vibrato in time with the rythm great video on the subject, and it really is more Hunkier :)
The re-bending advice starting at 8:12 is worth its weight in gold. I've struggled with getting vibrato on bended notes to sound right for many years. Thank you!
That ending is a reference to whatever the clip Mastodon uses at the beginning of Hail to Fire on the Lifesblood EP!!!! I knew I recognized that "I'm tired of eating sloppy, slimy eggs" intonation! VERY NICE!
OMG. Thank you!!!. Summer Song, by Joe Satriani!!. i had heard this on the radio when I was a kid. I dubbed it to a cassette. And spent forever learning this. I got down a little bit of it. And then I grew up. I still try to learn and play this from what I remember it. But as I was a kid before I did not care to learn what the name or artist was. It was just that song on the radio that I had on that tape, that time. So I had been going nuts. Well. not really. But it was like one of those "back burner" things in my head to one day figure out what the F this thing was and then go study it again.. Anyhow. i am really excited.. Thank you for the lesson too!
You're the only person I can find that actually explains the "vibrato on bent note" concept. I because traditional vibrato is going higher and then down to pitch, I was doing THAT for bent notes which is wrong. Now I get it!
Tisk tisk...didnt name ONE blues Giant besides SRV...great lesson I like and learned the vocal latent vibe like Whitney....I am a good string bender since 1982.First thing I learned to do thank to Mr.Vickers
Another great training tool for adding vibrato to bends is the EHX freeze pedal - instead of watching a tuner for your pitch reference, you can fret the target note and use the latch function on the freeze pedal to permanently sustain it. Then you listen for when the bends / vibrato are in tune with the sustained note.
Thanx for sharing Uncle Ben. I hadn't realized, I suck at guitar that much. Hope you're that great dude I think you are, 'cause I do love thoze vids of yours. Peace out from Hamburg-er, Ger.
Greetings uncle Ben. Was recording a song with my band and was not happy with the recording my guitar, felt it was colorless and dull and couldn't realize what I needed to give it more flair. Then I saw this video. I exercised this, and re-recorded my guitar. And Oh, boy. Day and Night. Bandmates were happy and I was happy. Thank you for making this. Definitely made playing guitar more fun.
Great tips, especially the one recommends using the tuner to see if you can full/half bend... And the best thing, you can use these vibrato tips in another solo activity........................
Jesco White. I reference that all the time, being a cook. Saw that video a long time ago and watched the documentary. He said some crazy stuff to his wife! Thanks again Ben!
Man, thanks so much for this video. The vibrato with tempo and explaining bending down and back up again to pitch every time was an eye opener for me. This is actually one of the hardest things to do on guitar and what separates the average to great players in my opinion. Vibrato is everything!
Hey Ben Great lesson... especially when you use Satch for examples! when u were doing that ghost style vibrato ... I like it Hendrix loved doing that in machine gun and a lot more.. I love that vibrato for certain songs .
The tip that starts at the 8:12 mark is worth it’s weight in gold for sure. And the vibrato at the 11:00 mark (which combines elements of the first three tips) is my favorite!! If you haven’t already checked out uncle Ben’s lesson (and the related performance video) on the solo to Windowpane by Opeth, check it out. That first phrase (and actually that very first note) is such a great example of this and is nearly single-handedly responsible for my obsession with improving my bending and vibrato techniques. You are truly a gifted teacher uncle Ben. Where were you when I was in Junior high and high school and had more time available to practice? Wait! Don’t answer that!!
So I play Bass Guitar. And listening to this video made me think about my vibrato. Even though we Bass Players don't normally do vibrato very often because we are holding down a groove. But when it comes to adding in fills or playing slow melodic parts at the top of the neck, I can now vibrato a note to the timing of the music.
Thanks for another super helpful video Ben! Vibrato has always been my Achilles heel, and I've finally started addressing it earlier this year. I can honestly say my playing sounds more "vocal" and expressive than it ever has, and I'm going to use your tips to improve even more!
Great tips, Ben! Honorary shoutout to Jeff Loomis for some wonderful vibrato as well. He was pivotal for me when crossing over from thinking of vibrato as a mechanical function to actually to it and applying it musically.
The first guitarists that made me note the power of vibrato are John Sykes and Gary Moore... And Randy Rhoads on the Mr. Crowley solo..As always you bring a cool lesson.
Great vid. Yingyang Milkshake has killer vibrato no doubt! Gotta love the unique slid vibrato that Greg Howe and Lynch/DiMartini have made part of their style. And great blues players have crushing vibrato that should not go unmentioned!
always better late than never/ been focusing way more on vibrato over last couple years &this helped to confirm &better define what I've been learning &working on ThanxSoMuch -I really enjoy your channel -unfortunately I tend to show my age by getting stuck at stepdad speed
Man, great lesson again! :) I was hoping for YOUR lesson on vibrato for so long! And yes, I know your old TIWYSAG-video about that topic. I was hopelessly lost in developing my vibrato (only the downwards bending motion on the 4 upper strings though) until a year ago. Not only my totally awesome new axe with perfect stainless steel frets helped, but also approaches like you show in this video. First of all, these "bending in time" excercises. They really school your brain for the required amount of control, just as with every other technique. But since the upwards bending motion vibratos came totally naturally to me from early on, I thought, the other motion comes automatically as well. After waiting for 20 years, I decided, it'd probably be a good idea to PRACTICE it! :D And man, was I lost... Today, I can finally say, that it developed quite awesome! It's at least there in 85 % of the time. Which is amazing, compared to 5 % or so. ;) Sorry for the long text! Cheers, buddy!
You make me feel smarterer everytime I watch. I shared some of these same tips in a FB group I belong to. Of course I still suck at guitar so keep these great tips coming so we can get a little gooderer with each practice! Uncle Ben, Giving the rope a dope a rope of hope 😂🎸 Thanks!!!
I scrolled for quite a while and didnt see anyone who got it right so im here to deliver the answer.....that last bit was a reference to good ol' Jesco White the Tap Dancin Outlaw!!! Haha figured there would be very few people up here who would even know his name or seen his documentary lol "I would get all that lighter fluid in ma lungs...now, you talk about a warped mind, boy i had one!!" 🤣🤣 its been over a decade since i first watched it but ill never forget that guy. Kudos for the reference Uncle Ben 💯👌🏻
Thanks for making your vibrato suck less by watching this video!!!! Who is your favorite top shaker?! ALSO: go rent/buy Psycho Goreman NOW! It’s on Amazon and I am OBSESSED!
Marty friedman is hard to beat
Brandon Ellis, George Lynch, and Marty Friedman are my top three for sure. Would love a Lynch/Ellis vibrato breakdown lesson!
Mikael Akerfelt has always been a master of tasteful vibrato, which is why his leads sound so smooth.
Dime should be mentioned too!
Marty Friedman absolute number one. Mikael Åkerefeldt and Dime also among my favourites. Andy LaRocque and Arjen-Anthony Lucassen to complete my top five.
Angus Young's vibrato is underrated
"shake it more than twice and now you're playing with yourself"
I died 10:42
"shake it more than twice and now you're playing with yourself" is one of my favourite lines from 2021 already. XD
Thanks for the bending vibrato lesson. Much needed. XD
I just love Uncle Ben's sense of humour. My GOD!
I never thought of playing vibrato in time with the music. Total gamechanger. Thanks!
I suck at guitar, hence why I am here before I get roasted.
Jesus.
This deserves 1billion likes based on the ultimate warrior reference alone
He he i am not easy to laugh but at 0:37 i was a little caught off guard! Vibrato in time with the rythm great video on the subject, and it really is more Hunkier :)
"They can shake a rope better than the Ultimate Warrior." I come for the fiddle tips, but stay for the commentary.
Ya know, it went right overhead the first time I heard him say that. LMAO
The re-bending advice starting at 8:12 is worth its weight in gold. I've struggled with getting vibrato on bended notes to sound right for many years. Thank you!
Thanks Uncle Ben ! Extra points for the Jesco reference !!
ahhhhh Ben, your videos get better with each iteration. dont ever stop
I like the "wait and shake" instead of compulsive vibrato on every note - great stuff!
Thanks for adding a new batch of mistakes I do to my already big collection of mistakes.
That ending is a reference to whatever the clip Mastodon uses at the beginning of Hail to Fire on the Lifesblood EP!!!! I knew I recognized that "I'm tired of eating sloppy, slimy eggs" intonation! VERY NICE!

I because traditional vibrato is going higher and then down to pitch, I was doing THAT for bent notes which is wrong. Now I get it!
I can’t wait to become a professional rope shaker!
8:02 that’s some pretty exotic Friedman-esque vibrato you got going on there, Ben. I like it!
this man speaks the truth
Gregory Kochory is outstanding.
And "Wylde vibrato" is the most fun vibrato there is!
Thanks, Uncy Bang!
One of the best teachers on TH-cam can learn a lot from this guy keep the vids rockin
"... or am I?" We won't judge! LOL
HELLOOOO 🎸
Omg that's where I found turbo lover too! That just brought back alot of awesome memories with my dad. That's cool as hell im not the only one Ben.
Classic!!!
Great video Ben.
Tisk tisk...didnt name ONE blues Giant besides SRV...great lesson I like and learned the vocal latent vibe like Whitney....I am a good string bender since 1982.First thing I learned to do thank to Mr.Vickers
I mean, I did mention Gary Moore AND Francis Bubbletrousers.
Thank you, uncle Ben.

Yup, i'm so glad I stumbled across this. Thanks for taking the time out to put this out
Great video, this is so important. Compliments for the puns!!

Hope you're that great dude I think you are, 'cause I do love thoze vids of yours.
Peace out from Hamburg-er, Ger.
The fact you shouted out my guitar teacher after I’ve watched u for a year I was happy to hear how other ppl have been influenced by Phil
Phil is the man, I miss seeing that guy every week at the shop!
I never thought of vibrato synced to the beat, I really suck!!! I might probably do it naturaly but I have to check! You rock!
There are a lot of things I suck at. Vibrato is definitely one of them. Thanks for the video Ben.
@Ben brilliant video as per usual!
Greetings uncle Ben. Was recording a song with my band and was not happy with the recording my guitar, felt it was colorless and dull and couldn't realize what I needed to give it more flair.

Jeff Loomis's vibrato is one of the best. It's so soulful.
Thanks Uncle Ben!)
The intro alone is worth a like. Thanks as always!
Great tips, especially the one recommends using the tuner to see if you can full/half bend...
And the best thing, you can use these vibrato tips in another solo activity........................
Love that jam at 7:21 - reminds me of a backing track on Ridge Racer, on Play Station Nice 👍
I was glad to see you suggest practicing with a tuner. I thought I was being a little too picky by doing that
Jesco White. I reference that all the time, being a cook. Saw that video a long time ago and watched the documentary. He said some crazy stuff to his wife! Thanks again Ben!
I can't believe this is free. Thank you so much.
Thanks, Ben.
Thanks uncle ben

Nice ultimate warrior reference 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Oh yes! I needed this!
Some months when money is tight, I have to choose between Patreon and only fans. Looks like this month you have taken food out of Nikki Benz's mouth .
That's okay. I'm sure her mouth will be full regardless.
@@MK4vDubbin 😂
My vibrato is great!
My everything else sucks tho......
Gran Turismo 3! Moon Over the Castle is one of my fav melody lines (and rock riffs) to play!
Shakin' it good makes it sound more bigger. Thanks uncle Ben.
The Phil Sandifer shoutout! Thats my vibrato and "bend-tonation" hero.
He’s the man!!!!
You never fail to address the simple things in an entertaining yet memorable manner man!!! Thanks again!
Hey Ben Great lesson... especially when you use Satch for examples! when u were doing that ghost style vibrato ... I like it Hendrix loved doing that in machine gun and a lot more.. I love that vibrato for certain songs .
Right on time

Good tips, thanks, king of vibrato got to be Paul Kossof
So good!!!!!
Some of your best work yet! Thanks for the great tips!

Vibrato is ones calling card and probably the most important technique in a players vocabulary
Thanks for another super helpful video Ben! Vibrato has always been my Achilles heel, and I've finally started addressing it earlier this year. I can honestly say my playing sounds more "vocal" and expressive than it ever has, and I'm going to use your tips to improve even more!
I love the intro lick.
Great stuff once again Ben! I had to pause the video and laugh for the first couple minutes it was so hilarious when you said they are all hunks LOL.
The explanation of vibrato bend is best ive seen. I did not realize that youre not supposed to go sharp!
Great tips, Ben! Honorary shoutout to Jeff Loomis for some wonderful vibrato as well. He was pivotal for me when crossing over from thinking of vibrato as a mechanical function to actually to it and applying it musically.
The ultimate warrior reference had me laughing so hard hahaaa 😂😂
Shake weight / wait double entendre. I like
The first guitarists that made me note the power of vibrato are John Sykes and Gary Moore... And Randy Rhoads on the Mr. Crowley solo..As always you bring a cool lesson.
Wow, this is a great lesson, you sure can make that guitar sing with emotion Uncle Ben. Seriously thank you, I needed this.
Gran Turismo 3 was for Playstation 2! Aside from that, great video!
I'm pretty sure that Uncle Ben's series can cure depression
Great wisdom and super entertaining - like always Ben! I love it!
I feel like alot of people and even instructors skip over developing good vibrato. Great lesson brother 🤘🤘
Great vid. Yingyang Milkshake has killer vibrato no doubt! Gotta love the unique slid vibrato that Greg Howe and Lynch/DiMartini have made part of their style. And great blues players have crushing vibrato that should not go unmentioned!

I like how you use Turbo Lover as an example, then Summer Song. Summer Song was in the Gran Turismo 4 soundtrack.
Brandon Ellis also has some KILLER vibrato!
The BEST

Great vid as usual. I've always wanted to do the marty friedman wide vibrato on bands.
Thank you uncle Ben
You are awesome so enjoy your videos .
Uncle Ben, your humor and delivery, combined with knowledge, is the hunkiest. Fuckin love your videos! Thank you for all you do, squawwwwww
Awesome any exercise tips for better vibrato
How on earth do you vibrato a string that is already bent UP? That was my question, and you finally solved that mystery! Thank you!
Easier than a string that is not bent actually!
@@ricomajestic Once I get used to it, I hope so
You make me feel smarterer everytime I watch. I shared some of these same tips in a FB group I belong to. Of course I still suck at guitar so keep these great tips coming so we can get a little gooderer with each practice! Uncle Ben, Giving the rope a dope a rope of hope 😂🎸 Thanks!!!

Thanks m8 !!!
Kirk hammett vibrato is real slick.
