I tried to fix and restore my Red DD2. But I must done something wrong. Because it just doesn't function like it should be. Not to mention it keeps eating my cassette tapes. Not the rare ones think god. Just Awesome Mix Vol.1.😅😢
Anywho, I have got to tried this whenever I have the time. Not to mention getting the needed additional parts. Never considered replacing the old capacitors as well. I bet it'll make sound a whole lot better then before.😅

Great video! If I really wanted to, I could probably do this, but honestly don't have the patience for it. I'd get frustrated with it halfway in... I guess once you do it the first time it gets easier.

Capacitors are better to restore if they have increased their internal resistance, but not to replace. These are old, real audio capacitors ! The ones you put are not good, better put modern SMD caps...but the ones you put are trees. With them, this walkman ends with the nice sound.
I have two DD2 in mint condition and one needs a new center wheel. It plays but I can hear the click sound which means one of the wheel tooth is broken. Will it be possible to send it for repair ?

How often does it break and how long does it usually take to fix
The centre-gear on the DD's split *because of the shock load delivered to it from the flywheel at the end of the tape on FF/RWD* (no real auto-stop, the servo just cuts power to the jammed motor after a second or so - really quite a horrendous system from an engineering purist's point of view). I sold my DD33, bought new in 1992 in 2020 (which must have seen 1000's of hours of use) and the centre gear was still fine because I ALWAYS, from day-one, either watched or listened for the 'leader' tape to appear and hit STOP before the the tape slammed to a halt (needs decent reflexes).
With broken ones, I've wondered if after removing the plastic gear from the steel disc it's moulded around (easy as it's already split), the disc could be turned down to a _very fractionally_ smaller diameter, the plastic gear then re-bonded with the broken ends carefully dressed (minus one tooth?) to join back up into a perfect gear.
ETA, PS >> REALLY now regret selling the DD33 (in dark grey, not black, unusual colour), it was a jewel of a machine, still in near-mint condition.

i have a problem with the lever. on 7:25 you can see it very good. this black thing who goes into the lever. it does not pushes up the lever. any idea? also my gear is broken aswell. i think im gonna buy a replacement gear and tear it completely apart. maybe i can see then, what the problem is.
If it is broken, you can try to glue it together, but as a rule this rarely helps. You can try to strengthen the part, insert a metal rod for reliability. But it is best to replace with a new part.
@@geryhold now i solved it. you see the spring on the lever which pushes the black little plastic thing to the left side? the 'pen' on the very top of the lever was broken, so it was not tighten. i glued it while holding to the left. and now it works. these 3 funny forms on top of the center gear are kicking the lever up.
