Nous partageons les mêmes gestes techniques. La montée en pression de la locomotive doit se faire très lentement pour éviter les chocs thermiques sur la chaudière et le briquetage du foyer. Par contre, désormais, nous utilisons du biofuel issu de résine de pin : un peu plus cher, même contrainte de préchauffage, même pouvoir calorifique, MAIS plus besoin de ramonage et réduction très importante de pollution CO2; en plus, l'odeur à l'échappement sent la forêt ! Vivement un rapprochement de ces deux machines à la frontière franco-suisse !
What I saw from another video about this engine, is that they use a external boiler in a wagon to heat the oil. Also they use the steam to circulate the water and heat it up so the boiler has minimal stress when the burner goes on. Somehow I didn’t see it in this video.
That is correct - to start the big Mikado and external "device" is used. In this particular case and to pre-heat the oil so that the big Mikado 141.rR1244 could be fired-up, they were using the coal-fired SBB E 3/3 No. 8512 from 1911 with the nickname "Tigerli". The E 3/3 is located just behind the riveted oil-tender. 5:52 shows the oil temperature in degrees Celsius, prior of firing up the engine. 16:37 then shows the oil temperature gauge again after having fired-up 141.R.1244. The "Tigerli" steam locomotive is shown at various points throughout the whole video, e.g. 9:20, just before the Mikado is being fired-up. :-)

Nevertheless, still a beautiful video and it shows how dependend heavy oil burners are from steam or a heatingsource to get started. The boiler in the waggon was fired with light heating oil i believe. Is Tigerli still coal fired?
The ''Heizwagen'' as we call it, is only used for the initial heating of the bunker oil to 70C - 90C, once the loco is warm she feeds steam through a series of heater pipes that runt hrought he Bunker tank. you may have seen her a day after the initial warm up, usually you can still get her going if shes been sitting for less than 24 hours with no fire @@niels6101
Elle n’a probablement jamais été aussi propre de toute sa carrière ! Ces machines étaient des bêtes de somme, utilisées en banalité par les équipes de conduite, qui ne les entretenaient pas, comme le faisaient les équipes ayant une machine attitrée, ces tâches étant assurées par des personnels dédiés.
We have mainline steam here in the states but I think Europe does it a bit better than America, France has an apperciation for historical stuff more so than anyone in the US could think of
