- It was the last day of April and the sun was shining, so I took a train to Ardrossan to see what the new facilities at Brodick were like. I got on the MV Isle of Arran for the 1105 sailing to Brodick before getting the Caledonian Isles' sailing at 1355 back to Ardrossan on what felt and looked like a summer's day.
It was interesting to see both vessel's approach to the new terminal at Brodick with Caledonian Isles swinging around Brodick Bay and into the berth whereas Isle of Arran approaches the berth before doing a 180 degree turn and backing onto the linkspan.
The new facilities at Brodick are first class, with modern walkways, great vistas from the windows of the waiting area overlooking the linkspan and beyond.
Music:
Royal Scots Dragoon Guards (from 0:01- 4:24)
Skipinnish (from 4:25- 46:37)
The Vatersay Boys (from 46:38- 54:53)
Thanks for Watching!!
It is really up to the ships Master how he decides to approach linkspan due to weather, sea conditions and capability of vessel. But that linkspan is a total abomination!!!! I take it , it was built to accomodate that rusting hulk with painted on windows that lies in Port Glasgow rusting even more by the day.that was launched by Nicoliar, what was it???? Two years ago
Correct Jim! Not only that the new hulks won't fit ha ha
The thing also sways badly in high winds or whenever theres a load on it, basically useless as a skywalk.
