One of the things I’ve always wondered is if the instruments were back lighted to see at night? It would be an interesting video to get a cockpit (pilot) view of what Lindbergh looked at all those hours he spent flying in the dark.

No, the instruments were not lighted. They started out with two, small, battery powered, lights on the panel - powered by 6, old-fashioned, telephone batteries. Lindbergh flew with them from San Diego across to New York, but when he got to New York he took the batteries out because he felt they were too heavy. The lights are still in the panel, just no batteries. Instead, he took an old brass flashlight in case he needed light. So crossing the Atlantic at night was very dark. The only time he could see at all was with that flashlight. Kinda' makes you wonder how you can fly in blackness all night long!
