Use the string method to align your wheels. Set your steering wheel straight and use the searbelt to hold it. Take a long piece of string from the back of the back wheel to the front of the front wheel. Adjust the tie rod if needed so the string just touches both sides of both wheels. Do the same on the other side. If you don't have someone to hold the string, just use a pushpin to hold it. It will only go a short way into the tread. Unless your back wheels are way out of whack, that should work pretty well.
I'd probably get an alignment and replace the brakes and lines like you said cause you probably have a swollen line and that can also cause some pulling and if it works send the new stuff back and consider it done Good Job Mikey 👍
Those tierods were destroyed! I'd definitely put the new parts on, and then you'll be set for another 100,000 miles or more. If you like how well it handles now, with all new parts, it will be amazing! Great video! It's good to see Lola riding majestically as queen in the back!!
I have to do ball joints on a D2 Audi A8L; upper, forward ball joint has a little play so I'm just going to do all 8...they are on their own individual arms with bushings, so it's a bit of a job. However, it's a bit dumb to just replace the one because you know in short order the others will crap out
Ah you own the long version of our A8! Nicee, what engine is it and how is it so far? These things are insanely comfortable, much much more comfortable than modern luxury cars IMHO
Every w126 I have ever looked at needed a full suspension rebuild. Owners just stop caring because of the cost and continue driving them. All I can say is that a properly rebuilt and dialed in w126 suspension is the bomb. Especially if they have rear SLS (my Euro 500 SEC does not, but is still great). Be advised: Go genuine on all parts if you can, despite the far greater cost. Febi, etc. have gone downhill over the past five years so their suspension parts are just not lasting. URO is to be avoided AT ALL COSTS! Junked cars can be a goldmine for various parts, so long as the car hasn't been to weather blasted. :-)
Great video once again MWM! I have a question on the use of tense in the way you structure sentences. It appears that folks in the Midwest use tense differently then I was taught in college and grad here on the East coast. For example, “ this tie rod needs replaced” vs “this tie rod needs to be replaced “ or “this tie rod needs replacement” as we would say here. There are many other examples in your videos, Randy’s and lots of other Midwestern TH-camr’s videos. I’m curious as to your thoughts on this, particularly given your previous life as an on-air television newscaster. In no way is my curiosity a criticism, it’s just as I mentioned, a curiosity. Always love your videos as wall as Randy’s, particularly the hands-on ones like today’s. Peace my friend, DrRick
You and Randy should do a parody video on the Grey Poupon Commercial. You sit in the back, while Randy is the Chauffeur. Santa can be the other Chauffeur in another MB!!!!!
I remember trying to get the tie rods done on my CLK320 and I had to order that entire set with the center link and both outers. All came as one piece.
This car is cool Mike, nice work bringing her back to life, black interior on the junker is tempting. Side note, 10/10 for that clean microwave but you lose a point for the tofu 😉😉
NICE.... I'm happy you can find and get used parts for your $700 Benz . I'm starting to have problems finding new parts for my $750 car and finding them used is almost not happening... I actually have something called the pirates booty , but it's paydirt.. Anyways Thank You for sharing!
I often wonder if they are cheap Mercedes or are they inexpensive Mercedes needing repairs and the right person to own them? You are that person. Thank you for the hours of wonderful videos.
This 420SEL is one, if not the best, MB you have found! LOVE all of the W126 chassis cars, but I think my favorite is the W116. Just won a BAT auction for a 1979 300SD! I would love to see one on MWM! Also, are you still interested in a Bentley Arnage? There is one near me for $7500!
My dog loves car rides too. My car has been in the shop for like three months now and so he is has been riding in our truck. He likes it but I think he would rather have my car back. He doesn’t have to be picked up when getting into my car ( ford focus) like he does with our truck ( Nissan Frontier
Hey, Mike 🙏 Greetings from Toronto, Canada. The amazing build quality of these old Mercedes is phenomenal. Soft close doors may be all the rage, BUT nothing can replicate the cultured THUD of the door closing! You KNEW you were enclosed in this bank vault of a car ❤ Is there a way for you to make a short of this quality of youngtimer MBs? I'd listen to it on repeat. Great work 👏 🖖🙏
I have to ask can you show how you get them shots out your car window? I'm not a very smart man but them shots are Kool thank you sir and keep up the great work
MIIIKKEE 😂 I work a Mercedes dealer and man each time I get behind the wheel of an older e class or s class. I find myself saying “Monkey Wrench Mike here!”
That's going to be a 7,000.00 dollar MB when you're done with the repairs and maintenance. Those dam fork lift Cats ruin the cars in the auction yard when they pick them up!!!!!!! Ugh! Great fix on replacing the horribly bent tie rods. I mean holy sxxx! They were bent like a big dog! She steers fine now!!! Amazing!!!!
Dont leave the Marvel oil in there too long, I just used it for 8 miles before my last change. The oil came out black and after 70 miles on the new Val Restore its nice and clear
I wonder if the damage could have been caused by a two truck driver hooking the chains to the tie rod assemblies? I know most operators are really careful about that, but you never know.
Hermoso auto que por unos pocos doláres puede darte más años de vida que muchos nuevos ( y con estilo). Yo le haría los cambios necesarios de fluidos y una ilustrada y queda el auto de un caballero.
Wait a sec.. What exactly was Mike holding out the window while filming? And what was holding the camera while it was filling the car? What an I missing here!

Hi Mike, It's actually quite sad that they destroy your purchase by using a forklift 🤔
They do this all of the time with those forklifts! They simply don’t give a damm!
Now you're traveling in first class 👍
You and your doggy are the best duo on TH-cam
Favorite bodystyle of Mercedes 420SE especially 80s
Good job Mike in fixing the Mercedes 😎😎👍👍

Another “ It’s Alive Car !! “ Awesome job Mike !! 👍
Thank goodness. I needed my fix of MWM really bad today. Time to relax, get comfortable, smile, grunt, and maybe laugh. Thanks Mike.
Great video and I love your dog she’s so adorable
I love those old Benz. Very nice Mike!
Oh I love this Benz Mike, you did a good job on it.good luck.
I'd probably get an alignment and replace the brakes and lines like you said cause you probably have a swollen line and that can also cause some pulling and if it works send the new stuff back and consider it done Good Job Mikey 👍
Always better as you say do both sides inc springs and shocks 👍
Please subscribe, comment, and like. Let's come together for Mike! Thanks, Mike!!😊
Good afternoon sir. She drives good and smooth.😊👍
We love your videos randy and mike and santa claus and your crew
Great job Mike
You can adjust the alignment yourself with some wrenches 👍
Loving the content Mike. We'll done. The w126 is coming out great.
It's unfortunate that the auction yards destroy cars when moving them around.
You also forgot the music in your timelapse 😂
Sweet merc
Hey, you lied about leaving us with some music! lol
But great work. Was glad to be able to binge 3 videos of you working on cars today.
What a the chances Lola will jump out the Window and try and grab the drone...🤣🤣🤣

I'd love to hear it rev up a bit more.
Great job Mike.
It will be spot on after a trip to the alignment shop.
I think it's Lola Approved now!
Well done!
You and Randy should do a parody video on the Grey Poupon Commercial. You sit in the back, while Randy is the Chauffeur. Santa can be the other Chauffeur in another MB!!!!!
If your getting new headlights might as well get the euro ones 😉
I remember trying to get the tie rods done on my CLK320 and I had to order that entire set with the center link and both outers. All came as one piece.
like the under the car content, good to see the old girl getting fixed up (I mean walter?)
This car is cool Mike, nice work bringing her back to life, black interior on the junker is tempting. Side note, 10/10 for that clean microwave but you lose a point for the tofu 😉😉
I remember calling you while you were in the middle of filming the Factor video to ask you how to start my Mercedes. Sorry about that!
I will always accept your calls…. Unless I’m getting my groove on! Lol
I wish I could have told you to grab that ac blower motor resistor 😢 11:18
As I thought , those pesky Forklifts, glad you got her all fixed up , a wheel alignment and she will be like new 👍😁🇦🇺
That leather interior from the breaker car would be a great upgrade for your interior Mike
The dash top being black wouldn't make too much difference to Mike's interior, but I didn't see the condition of it, tho.
@@paulie-Gualtieri. was talking about the leather seats. It’s the upgraded leather
@daineseboy78
I know, but the dash top is cracked on Mike's. It would look great with a black leather interior, It's worth getting regardless.

Almost 60K subs mike!!! You need to brain storm with randy to boost up the subs somehow, a small giveaway or something if people subscribe...
My dog loves car rides too. My car has been in the shop for like three months now and so he is has been riding in our truck. He likes it but I think he would rather have my car back. He doesn’t have to be picked up when getting into my car ( ford focus) like he does with our truck ( Nissan Frontier
I love your videos no matter what mike same with randy @ Auto Auction Rebuilds...
Great video and work on the Mercedes😄
Great job on getting those bent tie-rod's replaced and fixing those "booties" lol...

MIIIKKEE 😂 I work a Mercedes dealer and man each time I get behind the wheel of an older e class or s class. I find myself saying “Monkey Wrench Mike here!”
Great video again Mike
Great job again Mike, Euro headlights would look fantastic on her.
I know, I’m looking for some!!
Hello Mike aka Monkey Wrench Mike. Fixing the 1980 Mercedes Wagon steering components with junkyard parts.
Mike, you forgot to dub in the background music for your fast forward part.
Mike, did you get those JackStands at Walmart? I have the same exact kind and I got mine there.
Those tie rods effectively meant the car was trying to turn left and right at the same time.
Montage Music Missed. It's ok, I played it in my head.
Nice Mercedes and great video like always Mike! 🤠👍🏻🍻
There's no music while you're installing those parts LOL😮
Be safe and careful.🙏😊
That's going to be a 7,000.00 dollar MB when you're done with the repairs and maintenance. Those dam fork lift Cats ruin the cars in the auction yard when they pick them up!!!!!!! Ugh! Great fix on replacing the horribly bent tie rods. I mean holy sxxx! They were bent like a big dog! She steers fine now!!! Amazing!!!!
Love these body styles and Mercedes some of the best ones
Great video very entertaining 👍
Love this car and the Oldsmobile to!
Dont leave the Marvel oil in there too long, I just used it for 8 miles before my last change. The oil came out black and after 70 miles on the new Val Restore its nice and clear
You should inspect bushings and other joints with a prybar, not by hand.
The bent tie rods were due to being towed. They put the hooks on the tie rods seen it before.
Mike you are the mb guru
Randy is planning on buying you a gmc truck
Dang forklift driver socks! 😂
Outer rod needs to be straight! not bent had the same issues :D
Why were you scared Michael, you have a nice little informative TH-cam channel here. 😮
I wonder if the damage could have been caused by a two truck driver hooking the chains to the tie rod assemblies? I know most operators are really careful about that, but you never know.
Looking to make my first buy but what would you recommend IAA or Copart?
Beautiful car
Hello Lola.😊
Great video Mike.
Good job mike that car is very nice and love to see lola she is beutifull 😊
Hi Lola 👋👋
Hermoso auto que por unos pocos doláres puede darte más años de vida que muchos nuevos ( y con estilo). Yo le haría los cambios necesarios de fluidos y una ilustrada y queda el auto de un caballero.
Nice Mercedes Mike
Lola approved!❤
Laser alignment
Gorgeous
Awesome!!
It’s not a brake rod lol it’s called a track rod. And the mount goes bad. I told you on your first post. I’ve had at least 6 w126’s
Kent Bergsma, the Mercedes guru, calls them brake rods. But it’s just a name.
It’s a nice Mercedes’, Mike
Nice 😊
The tie rods are what make it hard to drive.
Yes, used tie rods are cheap. But, you could have straightened them.
the arm of the tie rods are bend, and when you brake the bar toch de tie-rod arm, just remove de arms and unbend
Where's Santa 😊
Mike chock your wheels!
Hey Mike why some cars have 1 wiper fronts don't mind asking
The e-class models have one wiper, in some models. It cleans more glass area than two wipers
Cool thank you and I enjoy your Channel
Wait a sec.. What exactly was Mike holding out the window while filming? And what was holding the camera while it was filling the car? What an I missing here!
It’s an insta360 camera
