@God is Love forgiving someone is not only the problem, lack of consequences is. If you forgive someone you can still give them consequences, it's probably better for themselves to be reported. It might allow them to see that their behaviour is wrong. So, forgiving doesn't necessarily mean lack of consequences. The existing lack of consequences for predatory behaviour in churches probably results from ignorance and uncertainty about how to handle someone who exhibits the predatory behaviour, I don't think it only results from forgiveness.

One of the commercials was advertising a show and said in a funny voice something like "We put a bunch of kids stranded on an island with a pedophile, what's going to happen?" I saw it many years ago and it was hilarious. I think it was British. At least I remember someone speaking in that accent.

Because the relationship between pedophiles and children causes serious psychological trouble for the children involved in more cases than not. It differs from homosexuality in the fact that pedophiles are attracted to people that are not mature eough to consent to that type of relationship. There are people that can not help being attracted to the idea of killing another, but does that make it okay? Does the fact that he can't help it make it okay for an abusive husband to hit his wife? No.
This is a perfectly valid comment, and I don't agree with it being downvoted. You don't have to defend the act of pedophilia to respect other peoples right to not be harassed. This is basic human rights which apply to everybody, including pedophiles.

I agree. Pedophile should not be equated with child molester, and even though it's not a very PC opinion, I wouldn't be surprised if people can be born pedophiles. The stigma should be with the act, not the person. On the other hand, I don't think sex between adults and young children should ever be legal. Even if it would truly be consensual in 1% of cases, it's not worth those very few cases to make it legal.
