I hadn't thought about that play, but that definitely deserves a deep rewind, too. Lots of backstory there. I watched the play on live TV and I still couldn't believe it!
No, we need to keep watching. This throw by Russell was poorly placed (should have been further back so that Lockette could have been running full-speed by the time he met a defender) and the play itself mind-bogglingly bad. What would have been wrong with a read option to keep the defense paranoid?
I love this Rewinder, but I wish they did more with this one in particular. First, they should have made the final play last a bit longer and show the reactions from both sidelines. Second, they should have discussed how in the practice before the Super Bowl, the Patriots planned for the goal line pass play and how Malcolm Butler missed it during practice. Lastly, they should have dug into more past history regarding New England like The Helmet Catch in Super Bowl 42 and Mario Manningham's sideline catch in Super Bowl 46 to help add more weight to Kearse's bobbling catch. Other than that, great video and I hope they do rewinders for The Helmet Catch, the Minneapolis Miracle, and Lebron James' block in Game 7.
I’ve been commenting about doing one of the championships the Blackhawks won for rewinder, they better do one of them because those games were super intense
@@rydawg26 the context for the 2010 cup run alone warrants a rewind. A nearly 50 year cup drought, terrible ownership sabotaging the team for decades, and then just the pure talent on the roster. Some good moments in 2013 as well to build up to 17 seconds too.
The editing in SBnations videos is literally orgasmic. Everything from the music choice to the little tv shutoff animation at the end. True beauty to watch
You should mention that it's Brandon Lafelle covered really well by Malcolm Butler that sets up Seattle for a winning touchdown. Its pretty critical for a deep rewind.
I’d be interested in your take on the rise and fall of my Broncos; from their miracle 2011 season, to the signing of Peyton Manning and the fall offensively from the record breaking 2013 squad, to the underachieving offense that let the defense carry them to a title. Followed, of course, by the disastrous 2017 and 2018 seasons. Or the fall of the defense between 2015 and 2019.
the 199th pick that went on to win 6 superbowls and appear in 9? The dude that should be treated as the GOAT and one of the most inspiring stories but is instead treated as the villain that one?
Name another corner in NFL History to ever intercept that route... The fact it was a “must have,” play by butler to seal the victory on that big of a stage in my opinion is the greatest defensive play in Nfl History!
I remember that this game was happening during a snowstorm in Massachusetts, so I didn’t have school and got to watch the entire game. Still don’t regret a thing
What makes it even more special is, the fact that the patriots ran THE EXACT same play during practice. Malcolm was playing corner, and he got beat. Hard. Goes to show how the patriots are always 1-step ahead of their opponents. Resulting Malcolm to learn from his mistake and to anticipate the play, in which resulted into an interception. There's a video about it in the NFL youtube channel. Highly suggest someone to watch it. Still gives me goosebumps.
I guess what the new rumor out there was that there wàs a criticism by one of the coaches to Butler, I'm guessing maybe before the game but they confronted each other and think it got physical. The thing is it wasn't just any coach , it was one of Bill Belichicks son's. Because of altercation he was told he couldn't play in the game and Eric Rowe was immediately brought in . Hence the crying. Im pretty sure he did something wrong at practice and they were gonna Welker him by sitting him for a drive or two and he took it to heart. I forgot where I heard this but I remember the source was legit
As a Seahawks fan. It was an amazing game. A game we should have been in. The math says we lost to Minnesota in the divisional round. The math said we lose to Rodgers in the nfc championship. Happy to have had two back to back super bowl runs. Humility is a virtue and those that couldn’t swallow the loss are gone and it’s still a great team to watch edge-of-your-seat football... go hawks
It’s insane how many people forget about Kearse’s comically luckily catch just two plays before the pick. If not for that the Seahawks probably run out of time and the story is Brady and the Patriots coming back from down ten in the fourth quarter against one of the best defenses of all-time. The right team won this game.
Coming back to this play nearly 10 years later, and having studied the game way more, this really wasn’t a bad call. First of all, from a X’s and O’s perspective, it makes total sense. Seattle is in 11 personnel. 1 RB, 1 TE, and 3 WR. New England has 8 guys in the box and 3 DB’s. Seattle only has 6 blockers, giving New England a heavy numbers advantage against any type of run… and when you couple that with Lynch’s numbers having not been great in short yardage situations that year, throwing makes total sense. Even if you were to do some type of zone read, and get rid of a defender, it’s still 8 to 7 numbers advantage in favor of New England. The Patriots are also in strict man coverage across the board (Cover 0) and what are some of the best concepts to beat man coverage? PICK PLAYS/Rub concepts. Exactly what Seattle did, and the Patriots saw it coming, which is a testament to the greatness & preparation of Belichick and the Patriots coaching staff. It was perfectly executed by Brandon Browner (whose impact on this play gets overlooked) and Malcolm Butler. Sometimes the defense just wins a rep, and that’s exactly what happened here. Most times, that play works. Hindsight bias is still going strong among too many sports fans, and that will never change. Just because a play call didn’t work doesn’t make it bad, and just because a play call worked doesn’t make it good. If Lynch gets stuffed, people would be saying “Pete Carroll should have been more creative.” If Browner gets driven back more, cutting off Butlers path, Lockette catches it, and nobody says anything & Pete Carroll is a hero lol. It wasn’t the worst play call ever, it was the worst result of a play call ever.
@@JBullock54 Exactly! And don’t tell me they had James White instead of Marshawn Lynch. James white was the second most valuable player in that game lol
I just realized that the Patriots made the afc championship game 8 seasons in a row from their 2011 season to their 2018 season. That is the craziest record ever and I don't think it will ever be seen again.
This was great. Thanks for all your awesome content! Something to consider... think about doing a reminder on the 2009 Twins v Tigers game 163. It was the last regular season game in the metrodome. It was the impotence for mlb going to a wild card play off. It was practically the end of the Twins as a dominant AL. Central team. If you bracketed it with the 2002 ALDS where the twins beat the moneyball A’s, and after 2009 spent almost ten years ignoring the data driven changes in sports, to now embracing it, that makes for an interesting story!
As much as I hate that play, I agree this needs a rewind. If we can get a reminder on the Saints win over the Vikings in 2009-2010, we can get one for the Vikings miracle finish in 2017-2018.

It might be two years old, but the joke should definitely be "Hey Russ, wanna run it back for another ring?" "Nah, I'll Pass"

Yessss! I wish big Roy got into that Arsenal locker room.
Stone cold vs the rock
As a Seahawks fan this was the most interesting yet painful thing I’ve ever watched.
still beat the Broncos 48-3 tho 😂
And five years later the Seahawks would receive a crucial delay of game penalty against the Niners, trying to redeem Lynch (but failing to do so).
Welcome... to a moment in history...
43-8 but yeah. Anyway, obligatory "INTERCEPTED at the GOAL LINE by MALCOLM BUTLER!!!"
@@mattbrendlen i remember that and when they sent him in i was like: YAAAAA WHERE GOING TO WIN AND REDEEM OURSELFS AND LYNCH IS GONAA SCORE AND SHOW WHAT WE SHOULD'VE DONE BEFORE! and then... the delay of game was like: uuhh yeah NO!
43 to 8 dumbass
@@sheepdavis like that's so much better. Still a ploughing
This video greatly undersells That Hightower tackle at the one. That was insane
Thank you for not talking about Brady’s backstory. I love it, but damn I hear it in every Brady video.
It's like how every Batman movie shows his parents dying
Anthony Lopez Or in Spider-Man and Uncle Ben dies
@@akaglide3485 but we didn't see uncle Ben die in Spider-Man 2, Amazing Spider-Man 2, Spider-Man homecoming
The Flash 2024 true, but it’s in every reboot 😂
AkaGlide “Alright people, let’s do this one last time...” -Peter Parker
The death of The Legion Of Boom.
Nope. Brady got blown up by the LOB the very next year. 😂
Damn SB Nation, Seahawks fans don’t need to relive this moment anymore than they already do😭
Could be worse, imagine living with 28-3 for the end of days or being the losing team to the "Yes it's a dynasty" era.
I'm sure this is a very well made, entertaining and informative video but I can't watch it I just can't.
Greatest moment Ive ever witnessed in 36 years of watching football....never jumped that high before lmaooo we all went nuts....such a great memory....what a legend
PLEASE do a video on Super Bowl 51 on how the Falcons collapsed, lol.
Still have no idea how they allowed that to happen
How do you allow a team to come back 20 down in 1 quarter. Its only 15 minutes.
They would need to create a new series name, because "collapse" isn't a fitting word for allowing a 20+ point comeback in the Super Bowl
We need to wait for 2022 for the vid to be made.
@TripleDoubleNoTAS But he doesn't have those loses. He has 6 super bowl rings. And has been to 9 super bowls. You're really questioning if tom brady if a HoF quarterback? Please.
As a Jets fan, the last two SB Nation videos have been torture
As a Seahawks fan this truly hurts my heart every time I see it
ha ha NOT me
so you analyzed everything that led up to that play but not the play itself. brilliant.
These are the deep rewinds I subscribed for!
Do mike piazza 911 home run rewind
I’ve been asking for this since this series started. I want them to do it sooooo bad. Or a beef history of Mike Piazza vs Terrorism
I wish they would too, but this video about it is good though th-cam.com/video/-fLGzbGGEYQ/w-d-xo.html
This is the video i’ve been waiting for...

Do DeSean Jackson punt return against the Giants to win the game
I hadn't thought about that play, but that definitely deserves a deep rewind, too. Lots of backstory there. I watched the play on live TV and I still couldn't believe it!

I always say that the Packers owe him a ring for that.
Yesss
Miracle in the Meadowlands
Do Lewis Hamilton’s last lap pass on Timo Glock.
Oh that would be amazing. As a brazilian I HATE THAT but this really deserve a deep rewind
IS THAT GLOCK?!
Please for the love of god do this!!
Seahawks fans stop watching at 13:39
No, we need to keep watching.
Finally! This feels like the best fit for this series and I’ve been screaming for it
Idk if this could make a full episode but Juju's hit on Burfect was the sweetest instant of karma I've seen in a while
Andy Murray bringing Wimbledon back to Great Britain deserves a deep rewind.
Do Patrick Kane's goal in Game 6 of the 2010 SCF
Dominic Pontrelli or the 2 goals in 17 seconds of 2013 SCF
As a Flyers fan I can pass on that one.
Been asking for this for months
This was my first super bowl ever watching!
Same
The editing in SBnations videos is literally orgasmic. Everything from the music choice to the little tv shutoff animation at the end. True beauty to watch
Literally? I do not think this word means what you think it means
Joe Carter's walk off home run in game 6 of the 1993 world series deserves a rewind
You should mention that it's Brandon Lafelle covered really well by Malcolm Butler that sets up Seattle for a winning touchdown. Its pretty critical for a deep rewind.
Tom Brady: hey Russell want a ring?
Russell: nah I’ll pass
Thank you for taking care of this meme
I’d be interested in your take on the rise and fall of my Broncos; from their miracle 2011 season, to the signing of Peyton Manning and the fall offensively from the record breaking 2013 squad, to the underachieving offense that let the defense carry them to a title. Followed, of course, by the disastrous 2017 and 2018 seasons. Or the fall of the defense between 2015 and 2019.
This is still one of the best superbowls I’ve ever watched. Great game, crazy ending, although I still wish Seattle just ran the damn ball
Thank you for sparing us the TB backstory lol
the 199th pick that went on to win 6 superbowls and appear in 9? The dude that should be treated as the GOAT and one of the most inspiring stories but is instead treated as the villain that one?

Ravens broncos 2012 playoffs
Do Alec Martinez’s game 5 goal double ot goal kings reverse sweeped
I agree. It has to be done.
Also, the Rangers losing to the Kings on game 5.
chaosgreyblood yeah the kings had 3 game 7s to get to the cup all on away ice and the rangers have a lotta great chargers Hendrick etc
Name another corner in NFL History to ever intercept that route...
The fact it was a “must have,” play by butler to seal the victory on that big of a stage in my opinion is the greatest defensive play in Nfl History!
Agree 100%. The preparation, recognition, speed / quickness, and holding onto the ball through contact all make it so.
I remember that this game was happening during a snowstorm in Massachusetts, so I didn’t have school and got to watch the entire game. Still don’t regret a thing
Do the 1960 World Series with Bill Mazeroski walk off home run.
Ezmacerik yes
Ezmacerik I think that’d be tricky considering most of the footage of all the games surrounding game 7 doesn’t exist
I would like to forget that moment in time thank you very much
now do something on why Malcolm Butler didn't play in that Super Bowl
That wasn’t this super bowl. It was Super Bowl 52
Cause Belichick threw that super bowl
Fly eagles Fly baby
FLY EAGLES FLY HAHAHAHA!!!! Leggoooooooo
Malcolm GO!!!
Do Tracy Porter's pick 6 in super bowl 44
You should do "the creation of SB nation deserves a deep rewind"
Yes please
As a Seahawks fan. It was an amazing game. A game we should have been in. The math says we lost to Minnesota in the divisional round. The math said we lose to Rodgers in the nfc championship. Happy to have had two back to back super bowl runs. Humility is a virtue and those that couldn’t swallow the loss are gone and it’s still a great team to watch edge-of-your-seat football... go hawks
Finally this episode came out. I asked for this a longgggg time ago. Cheers
I was really about to turn the video off , had you really went into Tom Brady’s whole biography lol
They need to do david freese's walk off home run in the 2011 world series and the helmet catch/plaxico's touchdown
I wonder if ur a giants fan
@@XanderLacefield what gave that one away?
Think they've done the Freese one.
Plaxico's TD was overshadowed by the Tyree catch that put them there.
Robert Horry Game 5 vs Pistons 2005 Finals
Ok. Wow. I literally got chills at the end.
Greatest game I’ve ever watched
It’s insane how many people forget about Kearse’s comically luckily catch just two plays before the pick. If not for that the Seahawks probably run out of time and the story is Brady and the Patriots coming back from down ten in the fourth quarter against one of the best defenses of all-time. The right team won this game.
"Malcolm, go!" will be the highlight of Brian Flores career. I wish him luck in Miami and will miss him :(
As a child of the 80's growing up in northern CA, this lifelong Niners fan has never rooted so hard for the Patriots.
Fun fact: New England threw it on 1st & goal from Atlantas 3 yard line in overtime in SB 51, and no one said a thing. Why? It didn’t get picked off.
@@JBullock54 Exactly! And don’t tell me they had James White instead of Marshawn Lynch. James white was the second most valuable player in that game lol

Shoutout to Jiazhen Zhang. Thanks for editing and filming!
I just realized that the Patriots made the afc championship game 8 seasons in a row from their 2011 season to their 2018 season. That is the craziest record ever and I don't think it will ever be seen again.
The loudest I yelled in a very long time (in a good way)!

It's about time we got this reminder! Thanks!
You should do Vikings vs Saints NFC divisional round walk off touchdown
As much as I hate that play, I agree this needs a rewind. If we can get a reminder on the Saints win over the Vikings in 2009-2010, we can get one for the Vikings miracle finish in 2017-2018.
