Usually I don't try to judge a game based on realistic graphics and rather it having a unique style.
This game does it perfectly, it's the level of care all games should have.

@@grey_box I'm an aspiring indie dev (I know how that sounds, but I'm not some starving artist trying to make it in the biz, I'm just trying to spend my free time making games that I enjoy and I can send to my friends), and this is one of the most important lessons I've learned so far in my journey. Watch a movie or go exploring for some artwork relating to your game. Being able to take time and pull yourself away from your game to draw inspiration from somewhere you maybe haven't before immediately broadens your arsenal. As an extreme example, if you're trying to make a game taking place in China during the Qin Dynasty, but your only real knowledge of China comes from For Honor, you're not going to be able to make an immersive game set in Ancient China. "It is important to draw wisdom from many different places. If you take it from only one place, it becomes rigid and stale." - Iroh

since this game has come out it has been the only game i keep playing, a lot of other big titles have been released since but none of them can match the feel and entertainment that Sea of Thieves gives me, amazing game, over the top graphics and best of all, you actually do not need a super computer that cost you an arm and a leg to play it while it still looks beautiful this has got to be a 10/10
People talking about game play forgot to check back on the game as we live in a time where games keep evolving with updates (no extra cost) and Sea of thieves is the only game that actually puts out more content with the updates and not just some extra skins that you can buy for real money, this game is worth every minute i have put in it, (besides from that one guy that joined my ship in open crew who blew it up and left) ;)
GG to the whole team behind this game.

This video's an interesting look at how the art style came to be. The comments section's a testiment to how consumers need to learn to temper their hype by not expecting a game to provide their wildest fantasies when the game's marketing only showed players looting chests and fighting skeletons and complained that the game is only about looting chests and fighting skeletons.

Amazing art. Those involved should be extremely proud of their passion and efforts!
For the game designers; however, I believe you really let a lot of folks down.
But the real pirate in the crowd was the game costs versus the actual game worth.
$20-29.99 is the actual worth of this game at the point.

It was done with 3d cubes and then those cubes were replaced with textures and sprites (dots) for mist once water collided with a physical object aka ship. The software usually provides the effect as its calculating how it's being hit because water doesn't hit the exact same way every time.
Devs put in variables into the software, the software then renders out an effect based on the numbers you type in.

I actually feel a bit sorry for this guy. He clearly knows what he's talking about, and clearly put years of thought, effort and research into the art design for the game. The sea really does look and behave brilliantly. The overall design is too cartoonish for my tastes, but has an obvious, consistent direction behind it and is excecuted well. I just wanted one of the questions at the end to be: "And whilst you were spending all these years, doing all this work, what exactly were the people in charge of gameplay doing? Or were they only brought in in the last six months?".

I'm not going to act like a know it all. However, if there's something that pirates are the most known for aside o their love for alcohol, was their love for ships. No sailor would allow their ships to be so terribly repaired. But this is a game so no big deal.

    • @taren5245

Myla Starseed It was supposed to be a joke, buddy. The joke was that the gameplay is bland, boring and unfinished(rough around the edges).
I am so glad that the internet has come so far that I have to explain a joke.

    • @taren5245
      @taren5245 6 ปีที่แล้ว

+Myla Starseed Your logic baffles me. "You only have to explain a joke if it's a bad joke". Some really good and clever jokes (which mine definitely isn't) are hard to catch. Does that make them bad jokes?
The sailing mechanics and naval combat is solid. I never argued against that but when your game is only a shell without any content it becomes bland. There needs to be enough content for the gameplay to base itself off. Sea of thieves for a 60 dollar game barely has any game content. The developers think the game will survive solely on multiplayer co op alone. I'm sorry but any game is fun when you have friends to play with. That doesn't make the game good.
If Sea of Thieves was 15-20 dollars, that would be better buck for your money. Even then that price point is an insult to indie greats such as Hollow Knight (15 dollar price tag) which has around 50 hours of singeplayer content on your first playthrough.
