5. Riffelhaus 1853:
This hotel is a physical reminder of the heyday of mountaineering. Here, the history of hotels and mountain climbing were written. The hotel on the Riffelberg was Zermatt's second hotel when it opened in 1853. Even before the Gornergrat railway was constructed, it opened. Mules and a lot of labor were used to carry the stones and beams up the mountain. The original mountain climber lodgings transformed into a cozy mountain hotel throughout the years without losing their authentic pioneering charm.
