Seems to me, the zebras would have a much better chance of survival if they crossed the river in a large group, rather than the orderly, single file approach they currently use.
The crocs are not "stupid." They look for animals that are slower, younger, inexperienced and smaller. It is still possible for some larger animals to disable or injure a croc. In particular by breaking free and destroying their jaws. Attacking a zebra is not always an "injury free" event. They try to work together to limit the potential damage. The goal is to drown the animal as soon as possible. The longer they struggle the more potential for damage to the croc. Crocs do not always succeed. The larger crocs are quite willing to destroy a younger one if necessary. And some larger animals like hippos can make short work of a croc, and bite it in half. They are just on a safari. I dont think they were bloodthirsty. It is nice to see some action thou I'm sure. Probably a rare treat that tourists don't get to often witness. Its not bad to be interested in seeing natural every day events in animals lives.
