For any fan of Ari Aster, I'd recommend the original Wicker Man. It's the artistic source of this kind of movie, and imo perfectly encapsulates the terror of being outside of society- similarly taking place almost entirely in daylight.
@@asmrain3224 It's personally one of my favourite films. I think younger audiences might need to adjust slightly to the 70s production values (It *looks* like a Hammer Horror) BUT the writing is incredible, really feels like a documentary about a policeman investigating a rural Scottish cult. It's also has an incredible soundtrack of old folk music.
My favorite is The Shining, particularly the first 35 minutes before Jack really loses it. The incipient madness is so well done. Jack’s menace just flickers across his face, hinting at what’s to come. The soundtrack is brilliant, the cinematography is breathtaking. And Shelly Duvall is just priceless. Without her the film wouldn’t work. Love your picks! Btw I couldn’t even finish Hereditary bc it freaked me out so much😮. I did finish Midsomer tho…. So well done. He’s a unique horror director for sure, a rare generational talent.
Your list of favorite horror movies consists of very unusual choices. You give a great personal insight into each one of those ten favorites. In science fiction I think that Alien was probably one of the old time greats as it produced so many shock scenes. I'll be adding a number of your top ten in this review to my must see in the future. Thanks for this delightful Sunday post!
I like that you included a lot of newer and unconventional picks, even if some of them, as you mentioned, are seen as “not good”. Makes for a more interesting list imo. And since you loved X have you watched Pearl? Mia Goth is a modern horror queen, no question. She’s so good.
this is a very good and funny video, around 4 minutes is the funniest part!:). though i generally avoid horror movies (except the truly dumb teen horrors) the boy and kokodi raised my interest, and i have seen midsommar. i think it is completely okay to love "not very good" movies or hate ones that others like and value, after all, personal experience matters...i can't recommend horror films , you have probably seen "the others" , "picnic at the hanging rock" , or "heavenly creatures", these latter two in my mind is somewhat connected, even to "virgin suicides", but hopefully, other commenters will recommend real horror movies, there are many of them:) (neuropsychology, wow, sounds very interesting!)
Lol thank you! 😄 so glad you liked it! Koko di koko da isn’t really a very scary or traditional horror movie so I think you might like that one, especially if you like the other 3 movies you listed. Heavenly Creatures is one of my favorites 🤩
(and the least interesting fact in the world:).:lots of years ago, after watching a berman-movie, i told those whom i watched the film with, that the saddest and scariest word i can think of is "midsommar", so if i were a talented a writer and director, i would make some very sad, dramatic scary story which would take place on the hungarian great plains, in a very light and bright word, still would be so scary and disturbing that it would be difficult to watch! and years after came Midsommar, shot mainly in hungary, broad daylight, scary and dramatic:)) )
@@asmrain3224 my first and last vision:(. it is good you liked heavenly creatures, not surprsing. i'm trying to find kokodi, but i had time and watched the "boy" in the afternoon. well, generic but absolutely not bad, i will probably rewatch it in the near future, except for the last more or less 12 minutes, which was, how to say, could have been better...omg. and there is a sequel, which i'm not sure i want to see. the atmosphere of the first hour is good, that is what matters.

Ooo this is one I haven’t seen yet so I’ll definitely have to check it out! Sounds fantastic!

Thank you so much! I haven’t seen Pearl yet but I really want to watch it soon!! It’s at the top of my to-watch list 🥰
So happy to see someone who loves The Ritual as much as me 😅
Great selection! Anything else you'd give honorable mentions to,?
Thank you! Some honorable mentions would probably be The Platform, The Blair Witch Project, Crimson Peak, The Black Phone, Scream and Audition 😃
