In this tutorial, I'll show you how to saddle stitch bind using staples, with a focus on just the binding method itself. This can be useful if you ever need to mock up a pamphlet without sending it to a printer. This can also help you make your own comic book.
Materials:
• Paper (cover and pages)
• Staples (3)
Tools:
• Pencil, ruler and cutting mat
• Stapler
• Binder clips
• Awl (see substitutes - bit.ly/Ylyz16)
• Bone folder (see substitutes - bit.ly/15EP8dB)
• Utility blade (or x-acto)
• Book press or weights (optional)

Okay heres the trick i use.... Using any king of eraser place it on the bottom of the booklet (where the staple will go ) then open wide the stapler and punch it where you need, the stapler will pierce through the paper and eraser then do the same steps of folding the ends of the staple....voilaa
I do that too! It works every time!
Mordaci Stewart idk if that's true, that's the worst thing you could do to yourself.
AWESOME TRICK!
It also works if you place a piece of cardboard underneath
Yes. That's similar to what I was thinking
I was blown away by this tutorial...WHERE HAVE U BEEN ALL MY LIFEEEEE. This was so easy and stress free..u have no idea how helpful this was for me. Thank u so much!!
This was so easy!! I used a thumb tack with 8 pages of 24lb paper and a kraft paper cover, went right thru! I can easily make all my traveler's notebook inserts now :) Thank you!
Adglutjfjfj😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😅😮😢😅😅😮😮😅😅😮😮
7 years later this video is still helpful. Thanks!
Another method that I used to use is: slip a piece of eraser under the spot where you want the staple to go. With the jaw of the stapler open, 'staple' onto the page and the eraser as if you were stapling something onto a notice board. Flip it over, pull out the eraser, and then push down the legs of the staple (with your hands or with a ruler). Done :D
I ended up with the book torn and the staple stuck in the eraser.....
@@wizkreeper6635 same 😢
@@wizkreeper6635that's one heck of a eraser
What an incredibly easy and helpful tutorial!
I've been looking for this tutorial everywhere! thank you so much for this!
>Sounds like a preschool teacher
>Has Spawn comics lying around
Cool
lol
????????????
@@colorpinkuwu7386 it’s a comic, called spawn, what’s not to understand?
Excellent video--so clear. The clips are a great idea I never thought of. This method may actually result in more exact "stapling" than using a long stapler. Thanks!
I didn't think of doing it like this! Now I wanna do it all the time! Thanks!
loved your tuts, you keep everything so organized !
I love how precise you are.
Your DIY Videos are great! I have been doing book binding for a while but you have really taught me some neat tricks!! Thanks.
Love watching your tutorials.
Excelent, this is the first tutorial with this style that I saw! Thank you very much!!!!

Thank you saved my life for uni projects!!
thank-you for the tutorial, it was very helpful
great video, just what I was looking for~ thank you!
Nice tutorial! You might consider working with "unused" (not folded) staples, as folding/unfolding/re-folding might make them break.
your tutorials are the best! thx so much!
Thank you, this is what I was looking for, because I haven´t got the machine with the long hand to strap the clips. Thank you very much for your tip
...!
thanks. i was looking almost everywhere to know how to do this. :-)
Another thought is that instead of stapling then unfolding it, why don't you just use your fingernails to scrape one staple off one at a time...
I can't thank you enough. So I said a silent prayer for you. Seriously, this is such a helpful tutorial, kind of like one of those tricks that make me think why I never thought of this!
Excellent! Thanks, I love your videos!
That’s incredible. Cool ideas!!!
Brilliant tutorial. Thanks.
your tutorial is very easy to understand!Thank you.!
Oh man, I can make so many small sketchbooks with this technique! I can finally put my new stapler to use lol
Thank you this is just what I been looking.
Super good tutorial!
Genius! :D Thanks for the tutorial! :D
Wonderful video. Thanks!
thanks a lot for your videos, they are really helpful
You are a GENIUS !!!!!!!!!!
This helped a lot :3 I was wondering how to do this.
I bought a stapler with long arm for doing the exact same thing. But it's good to see what the proper machine looks like
This was very helpful 😊
thank you very much for your tutorial,,,, ARE FANTASTIC,,,
FROM ARGENTINA, BUE
This was great! Thanks!
I loved!
I'm gonna do.
This is great thanks for the video!
Thanks for showing us. I also made a book by using this trick. But i faced problem with open wide the staple pin. So i grabbed an a4 paper and fold it 7times. Then i stapled gently on that folding paper. Then it the pin became wide and I placed it on the booklet😊
You are amazing! Thanks so much!!!!!!
Awesome.
Thank you.
i love making a Book
Instead of pushing staples out of a stapler and unfolding them, I prefer pulling them out of a column/stick of staples. The 'joints' on a staple is weak, and if you fold and unfold it too much, it might break. Or alternatively, like ItalianMisfit has mentioned, just open the stapler and press out the amount of staples you need. That way the staples won't have to be folded and unfolded repeatedly.
The staple that comes out folded from the stapler has a bit of a radius in the bend which may hold the paper better. That's probably why Sea Lemon does it that way.
HELPFULLL. Thank you so much , I had to make a book for my school assignment and had no idea how to lol
wow!helped me a lot Thanx!!
I really love your videos! I wish you would make a video on how to make a Midori type traveler's notebook!
Great tutorial, thank you! And a beautiful presentation to go with it. I am going to use this to make my portfolio.
I like all your videos
thanks! thats useful!
Thanks for sharing!
Thank you so much
❤
Thank you !!
Nunca se me había ocurrido abrir un corchete y doblarlo yo misma. Gracias!!
Awesome!
thank you for the cm information ;)
I use the same method that Italianmisfit said, but i use a thick "fieltro squeegee" or an eraser to press against the paper and stapler... good tutorials! :D
you could use that press to do the cutting also. just press it with the tip of the book out.
thank u so much 😁
Thank you very much
Hi! I love your videos! The things you make are so amazing... I would never be able to make some of the things you can. I just wanted you to know that your videos are great, and you should keep posting :) @SeaLemonDiy
a much easier way to do this project is to produce a paper roll out of an old newspaper. just roll one sheet of it very hard and strong from one corner to the opposite corner, fix it with a little bit of clue at the leftover corner - ready. take this paper roll underneath the broshure and use the bureau tacker (stapler) to tacker the needles directly into the paper. then take away the paper roll from the broshure and crump the tacker (stapler-) needles to fix them. you'll need the half of the time ...
Wow thank you
Thank you so much1!!!
Genius!
Happy Thanks Giving😇🤭🤭🤭
You read spawn!? You are even more epic! Also I did this the other day to complete a project at college for a student survival guide in barcelona, the problem I had was the staples weren't pressed in at the ends like they would be using the stapler, just a not for everyone else.
I like the diy
I love your voice.
amazing
I do the same..! It works..!
nice video i like it
Edna Chiu - you can also staple into your carpet instead of an eraser. We used to do this all the time when I was in grade school.
i like it
thanks
Great tutorial. But i actually just open my stapler and under the paper i put a corkpad, and its done :-)
This is great! Now how do you prepare a pdf to print taking into account the folds?
Thanks for the tutorial! Came here from Lauren Fairweather and I just made a little 5 x 3.5 inch dot journal tonight and i really feel like I have too much power....
Just my 2 cents to prevent the possible finger nail puncturing and weakening of the staples due to repeated bending...instead of pressing all the way down on the stapler to eject the bent staple, open the stapler so that the bottom folds out behind it. Then just squeeze the stapler and they'll eject like bullets but unbent. If your stapler can't open like that put something inside where you put the paper, like a pen or pencil, to keep it from closing all the way and press.
I think it must be possible to use a tacker, put the signature on some kind of soft board and bend the staples on the other side.
I do the same thing too... except instead of doing this on a table, I just do it on a carpet because it's a flat surface but unlike a table, it allows the staples to puncture through without damaging anything.
Hey gurl! I loveeee the font from the list of materials!
Could you tell me which font is it?
Thanks :)
Thanks i printed some pages of some batman comics and needed to make put them together with staples
I use that method! Its pretty easy if you use it all the time, right?
Are staples a good replacement for thread if I want to make a Moleskine style notebook, like the one you made in one of your videos? I have a feeling it can be a much easier way to make it, but I'm not sure...
0:05 Represent!
what kind paper did u use for it? or what kind of paper do u recommend (the size just like in the video) for short zines?
I find it a lot easier to just use thread
Can you use the back stitch for book binding too because I don't understand the saddle stitch well
There is a long opening stapler. Anyway, the issue I have is the staple won't go in the middle spine, it a bit to left and a bit to right. How do we get it right to the middle from the cover to the inner pages?
open up the stapler, staple it flat into cardboard, pull it out, and bend the staples down by hand
U could also do it a different way u could open up you're whole stapler and just staple to you're surface or just you're paper
