London Town by Kano is the tune that convinced me he was the master. For him to come out with that flow, in the middle of the first Grime era was huge. I think Made in the Manor was his masterpiece though, it has everything.

Wretch x Avelino was like 1.5yrs before this. However, do bear in mind that both Wretch and Kano have been around since the foundation of Grime (pre 2004) and therefore both have numerous freestyles, free verses, tracks, videos and albums so the body of work is so deep, it takes seeing a lot to really be able to compare them properly. I know all their material and I personally can’t split them in the sense where they are both great but for different reasons. If you merged the two, you’d have the greatest rapper of all time. The more you hear the pair, the more you’ll appreciate. And his ‘who’s best’ bar was in jest, he and Wretch are close friends for almost 20yrs. It a blessing this sound is crossing over at long last, we got plenty lyrical talent over here.

They burst onto the scene with Grime and then started making pop tunes as soon as they got a bit of money 🙄 Can’t really blame them tho tbf, back then nobody was getting racks for performing Grime so imagine the difference in money when they got signed! The new era of Grime artists are the ones to push, hopefully they don’t make the same mistakes!
