  • What’s up guys! My name is Tim, I work at a film lab in Mesa, AZ. We recently bought a Pentax 17 half frame camera and I wanted to shoot a test roll and give an honest review! Check out my work @film.rn as well as the lab @strapfilmlab on instagram! Thanks for watching :)

People saying this thing is overpriced. But a film camera that isn't over 20-30 years old is a blessing. Not only that more competition should bring down the prices of other used cameras. Also we just need the film market to grow to keep it from going extinct. Just wishing these companies success because it's good for all us film shooters. Now Pentax please make a new medium format camera. Thanks bye.

@@ralphgeronilla it’s definitely nice that it’s new and has warranty’s and instructions, great for beginners! as a professional film photographer i see no need to pay for a half frame camera, it’s very limiting. glad to see progression for the film community regardless!

@@timnoesner4853 Even for professional film photographer I can see half-frame as a nice "visual diary camera" option... of course, if someone has a need for something like that

Pentax says the top and bottom are magnesium alloy. Can you tell for sure if it's the alloy or plastic? Also someone said the two screws on the front are decorative only. Can you tell?

I still have no idea whos the target customer here. Its overpriced half-frame camera with mediocre fixed lens. You can get Olympus OM series of old Minoltas for quarter of the price and these are full frame SLRs.

This is a point and shoot compact camera, much slimmer than SLRs.
Most People back then never cared about SLRs even though they offered precise focus and controls and point and shoot compact cameras were the general publics go to choice.
There are not much good half frame camera PNS in used market, Olympus Pen EE models are a joke when it comes to reliability.
Half frames went defunct after 60s, IMO this Pentax 17 is the best Half frame PNS ever made

@@Arrakiss20 my boss bought it, he’s in his 40’s and wants a decent camera that he can use and his kids could use casually. now is it worth $500? not in my opinion. but for his kids, getting a good photo with this camera is higher odds than one of the vintage ones. i develop a lot of half frame photos at the lab, i’ve never seen a more consistent half frame camera in terms of getting every frame exposed properly.
