- Today we painted on 15X30" Black Canvas using Thick Oil Paints with Liquid Clear. Colors will be listed below. I look forward to seeing your painting! Send in pics via Facebook Messenger to / paintwithjosh
Colors : Phthalo Blue, Alizarin Crimson, Midnight Black, & Titanium White
Tools : 1" & 2" Brushes, 2 Fan Brushes (Size : Whatever works best for you. One needs to be larger than the other), Palette Knife, & a Script Liner Brush.
Canvas Prep (Everything shown on screen) : I took a 15x30" Canvas from Michael's or Hobby Lobby out of the pack and I applied Liquitex Black gesso to the entire thing. Once DRY I applied Bob Ross Liquid Clear to the entire canvas and then wiped the excess off with paper towel. I added Phthalo blue & alizarin crimson in different areas across the whole canvas, and start painting

wow wow wow, that was amazing to watch
Thank you!
I like how you are not mean with your teaching, some tutorials teachers tend to keep certain aspects of their paintings to themselves, usually the little tricks and important things
It’s like they want people to think only gifted people can do this, but as you know and I know as a musician it’s all about practice, but obviously a bit of an imagination helps,
Thanks

Sir you are more than awesome ...not even photographs taken can create such an impact as you have just created on the canvas. Simply incredible and your narration step by step is a just superb 😊and shows your passion for the art. It actually inspires me to look for a canvas right now and create something beautiful...knowing full well it won't reach anywhere near 😢your art creation.😊
Yes you can! Yours will be beautiful!
New Haven, IN. I love what’s called Memphis burgers. Personally I refer to them as heart attacks on a bun! 😂
It’s a cheeseburger with bbq pulled pork and coleslaw on top. Great with southern pit beans!! I only have one about once a year or so.

How do you keep your fan brushes from clumping together? I start off fine, and then my fan brush quickly turns into a 3 pronged brush. I can't figure out if it's the brush, the paint, or just me. 😅
Wrong brush. You need natural hair oil painting fan brushes. Here's the ones I use - amzn.to/44IjQUE
@@PaintWithJosh thank you! I will definitely pick up a set of those brushes!!
If you have a black canvas can you just skip the 2 first steps?
Yes. Just liquid clear and add your under colors and go
I dont have any clear stuff...is there a substitute? I dont have gesso ither but I read I can use acrylic paint instead...
I tried it with just acrylic black once. Didn't work well. You can use linseed oil as a replacement for the clear. You can get it at your local art store. I would really get the black gesso off Amazon. - amzn.to/47mml1F

Hi Josh. I'm an absolute beginner. Love making a mess 😂 and love your work. Could you help me please, I use acrylic paint. Blending is a bit of a nightmare. If I have a go at this tutorial, will it be a disaster in acrylic or should I try oils. I haven't used oil before. Thank you as always. Watching in Nottingham UK
When I was le2rning from Bob's videos I always said, if I don't use the same stuff he's using, how can I expect the same results?
@@PaintWithJosh of course. Thank you 👍
❤ maybe this is a silly question for a beginner but...do i need to prepare my canvas with ghesso ..ALL the time ? OR can i just use water to wet it instead ??? I have white ghesso and everytime is looks ..lol..gross..so idk what im doing wrong.😢
If the canvas is black already you won't need gesso. You can just use "liquid clear" to wet the canvas. Not water. Water and Oil paint don't mix. The Liquid Clear keeps the canvas wet so we can move the thick oils around the canvas
Can u speak more about liquid clear
Is that importan or what it do
Im new in oil colors
It stays wet while we paint. Without it, the colors don't blend smoothly
@@PaintWithJosh now i k why my painting is not perfect thank uuuuuu
What if I do not have liquid clear
Linseed oil works as a replacement
Merci pour ce Tuto j ai pas réussi à reproduire 😢ni les nuages ni les vagues
That's ok. You can try again
Why did you use the liquid clear?
To make the canvas wet and help the paint slide around. Thick oils on a dry canvas don't move like they do on a wet canvas. I teach the wet on wet technique. Which means applying wet paint to a wet canvas
Thank you!!
Жестоко 🙂👍
