I would love to know more about the mounds. Was it originally to help keep wildlife from the deceased loved ones? Such a lot of tradition and sacredness to be honored and understood concerning the burial mounds. God bless. Adventure on!!

Mostly Native Americans who lived on the east of the Mississippi River were mound builders. Just like the ones in Mexico as the Aztec and Mayans were at one time, but they were more a temple builder. The biggest mound on the east of the Mississippi River is the Cahokian mound, in which the site was a huge village. At one time, it is larger than Londan back in AD 1200. Another mound site was Moundville in Moundville, AL and the village there was nearly the size of London. If you type Moundville on this channel, I have a few information about Moundville and maybe it will inform you about the Native American mounds. I hope you enjoy my Channel!

Cool. Has it been protected from potdiggers through the years?

@bdpage2023, as far as I know, yes it has. Nanih Waiya mound was protected by the State of Mississippi Historic Preservation, but around the early 2010's, the MBCIHP (Mississippi Band of Choctaws Indians Historic Preservation) had took over and it is under their provision to take care and to preserve this site.
