That's the responsibility of being a teacher. You always gotta set a good example. Sandro seems to have the, grew up broke, kinds of skills; where yourself is the only one you can pay to do the essential work.
"Hey you're on fire!" "I'm almost done" Sandro has been a hell of a find. However much or little filming he wants to do, you guys have to keep him in the DMCU.
My son is a union ironworker and certified welder. I taught him to solder when he was about 8 years old, stick welding at 10 and by 12 he was TiG welding. I know how to weld and am lucky enough to buy good welding equipment but I’m no way in the same league as him. His welds are a thing of beauty. They actually asked if he wanted to teach at the union training center when he finished his apprenticeship. He was 22! He told the lead instructor he’d think about it in a few years after he got real world experience under his belt. I’m so proud of my son!
Yeah, now days the editor has to keep awake, Sandros first swear was followed by a sheepish apology, even though it was bleeped. Now days he just *BEEPING* keeps cusing XD
@@kjm0677 The thing is that while funny it's really common, you are welding and smell something burning which is kinda normal in a shop then look down its your apron or the shirt that is on fire, you put it out and keep welding unless its a big fire. Sure you freak out the first couple of times but welders on the job have set themselves on fire enough times to just know how long they have until its too much fire. (Just don't tell OSHA!) Experience can bring some complacency with it.
His delivery is s spot on for everything. The "O, I get it, I get it, that's what sucks" on the first clip is gold. The look he gives the camera as well. The man could be a stand up comedian with a routine solely based on his experiences working on cars.
Sandro is that 45 year old dude from your local shop that has been doing mechanic work since he was 15. There is very little he hasn't seen, done, fixed or broken.
My Grandpa was a welder for nearly 70 years. When he was helping teach me to weld (when I was 8) I told him that he was a really good welder, he looked at me and said “you can’t be called a GOOD welder until you’ve welded a train car full of wire”. Guess I’m just fair after 48 years, but I can live with that, it came from Grandpa. 😁
Hah! Every person I knew that welded didn't have a high estimation of their skills either. Even my father was humbled by another mans skills and that is unusual for him. Those welds were really good though, so understandable why he still at 15 years after retiring hahaha. No seriously I worked on some of the steel he welded and it was factory grade or better, which was especially impressive given the dude was so old he shook like a leaf in the wind and nearly expired after a couple of hours. Some of those joints were so clean it looked like they were bent or cast as a single piece. First time I met a master of their trade. The old man was very nice too.
I am a weld inspector, pipeline among other things as Sandro mentioned. The red stuff you see coming out of the weld at 10:00 is called dye penetrant, it is a specific type of oil colored with dye that draws itself into cracks and other imperfections. The surface is then cleaned and what the guy in the video is spraying is the developer, essentially aerosolised chalk, that draws the red coloring out to the surface. Also where I live, carnival rides are definitely subject to regular weld inspections, at least on load bearing areas and repairs.
it's cuz he does custom work. Once you get into working on old cars you need to know how to do custom metal fab. In general older cars require a lot of custom work, so you just learn to do it.

Would love to see a season of HiLo with Sandro and Angelina but instead of a hi car and a lo car they each just have a budget to play with each episode allowing them to cheap on certain things so they can have a higher budget for a different item next episode etc. Would be interesting to see where they decide to spend up or cheap out for certain parts which can be compared overall
sandro with the "🔥but i'm almost done! 🔥" holy shit is that relatable. when you're 2 inches away from finishing the smoothest bead you've laid all day and you can smell your glove roasting, your hand is getting hot, you just grit the shit out of your teeth and run run run run run and as SOON as that arc breaks you flail your arms like an orangutan.
I watched an industrial welder do some stainless steel piping connections once and what made me stop to see the outcome was that he was making some weird looking upper body and shoulder movements with a Tig welder. It was the most perfect smooth weld I have ever seen! The flow of the weld looked like a machine had done it.
I’ve been welding for 48 years, one of the first things I learned was just because it’s aesthetic doesn’t mean it’s a good weld. The pretty part comes with experience, make sure you have your prep and penetration down first, then practice on making it better looking. Lesson 2: just because someone bought a large tool box with tools doesn’t make them a mechanic, same goes with a welder.
Yep. You can make an ugly weld that penetrates and you can make a pretty weld that don't. That said, quite a few of the bad welds shown in this video pretty obviously didn't penetrate..
The Trades take time to grow and deepen the learned. As seen by "rechtschaffend frei/fremde Wandergesellen" on their "Walz" over here in Germany and actually throughout the entire Euro - Asian Continent if one so desires. most often they are Carpentry Journeypersons in their Journeymen years
I got the shit stick cause i can do very strong mig welds but they usually look like crap, and i got a job that needs pretty welds not necessarily stronk welds
As someone who has spent ten years all over the country welding from ships to oil rigs to pipelines this video was enjoyable. As a trained professional with a degree in metallurgy this was one of the most painful videos I have seen in a long time! On a side note some of the best welders I have seen are mechanics they just have to do a lot more welding than you think.
I come back to Donut to see Sandro and Angelina. They bring a fresh experience to the channel. Love everything from their tips, tricks and stories. I can't get enough of them.
Sandro gunning for Nolan’s job, and I support that decision 😂, but for real we love you Nolan! Bring Sandro to the donut team and just give him a shop that does real mechanics stuff let him do him but get real day to day info
I learned how to MIG weld when I was on a Baja SAE team. (We had opportunities to learn TIG welding, but not enough access to a machine to get enough practice in outside of the few group classes.) At my university, we learned from people who were trained to be aircraft mechanics and they made sure your welds were ON POINT. Plus, our competition made us do weld samples for every welder who welded on the chassis, with destructive testing for one of the sample types. I found welding to be pretty fun and relaxing at times. The whole experience definitely made me start to look around a lot more at things that are welded together and at the quality of the welds.
Some of those welds at the beginning looked like bubble gum stuck on with paint over top. Others reminded me of JB Weld. Now that final clip was not just beautiful welding, that dude was like Bob Ross making "happy little welds". :)
Sandro reminds me of my dad with how he works on cars and welds too. Though my dad was an Iron worker first and a master mechanic second. He had to wear full leathers when welding and years ago he was welding in an enclosed space for a building on a construction site and he felt this pressure and sudden heat for a moment (note: he had earplugs in so he couldn't hear anything). He was confused for a moment, finished up his weld and when he came out he found out gas had exploded down where he was. So please, for the love of all that is holy, wear the damn leathers! It WILL save your life!

Everything else is gone, it's just you and your weld. I love it. Unfortunately my ears start to hurt after 4-6 hours with earplugs in so actually working 10 hour shifts as a welder hasn't worked out for me.

I think welding is more relaxing and ratio for drama/income is much better.
HEY DONUT, if you haven't been told yet, Sandro is so dope. And we appreciate you incorporating him as much as possible. He's a riot and he meshes with the crew. I seen him wit Nolan, wit James, with Justin. Never a skipped beat. U guys even thro him wit complete stranger and put him with Angelina, and they were electric off rip. SANDRO FOR PREZIDENT!!!!
Angelina is ill too. The 2 of em are the b3st of the ppl uve brought in for this channel. And with the 2 of em it gives u a good balance. She's the teacher and like the good view in the automotive scene And Sandro is the bad and darker and unfortunately reality of the auto industry, or the devil on the other shoulder. Its like salt in a batch of chocolate cookies. Not right without it
I remember on my first welding job I was welding aluminum structural with meg. I was looking up, spark, came down with the bottom of my shirt up and I was on fire didn’t stop even though if that’s a little hot smells a little didn’t realize what was happening till someone laughed and pointed at me and I was on fire. God bless welders one of the most blue-collar jobs you can do.
I just started teaching myself to weld by watching countless hours of videos and repaired my tractor deck after running about 2 lbs of rods ❤ I love it I couldn't practice today because it was raining I need to build a shop asap 😂
This is crazy because I just got told I'm being moved to a welding position at my job and I've never welded before. 😅 Your timing on this video couldn't be better.
I watched this twice.... bleeps and sirens for SANDRO means real life talk.....ànd walk away! Donut found a new combination with Sandro.....and the editors got them covered.... SANDRO IS THAT MECHANIC THAT GIVES YOU ACCURACY AND REAL WORLD TALK!
Our local carnival consists mostly of vintage rides. Very sketch welds. The last time I was there is the last time I ever go to a county fair. I was riding a spinning ride that moved you up and down in the air. One of the service doors flew open and proceeded to smack the rides being banged around so hard it was throwing sparks when it collided with the bars. The very lazy "I don't get paid enough to work here" worked, very slowly came over to the controls and decelerated the ride, rather then hitting the emergency stop button. Meanwhile the rides kept hitting the door. The door was a mangled mess (could have injured someone) and the ride operator proceeded to grab duck tape and tape the door shut. Everyone in line and on the ride noped out of there. Welds on the rides were bad but not only that, very cracked and rusted supports.
Thank you for this. I’ve done stick, mig, tig , resistance, compression and electron beam welding. On pretty much all types of steal and aluminum. And special alloys for the different military projects. I love doing it.
Sandro seems like he learned alot of old style mechanics and welding.. I work in a mechanic and fabrication shop...I've watched people be lit on fire and I've been on fire spicy situations 😂
Flux core is my favorite; it's like mixing MIG and stick welding. And then a bit of TIG just to clean up the surface (if we're not grinding). I do alright; but I need way way way more practice before I'd put my welds out there. xD 11:00 - My welding instructor told me he inspects welds as much as he can see before he ever gets on a ride.
TÜV (Technischer-Überwachungs-Verein = Technical control board), I am so happy we have TÜV (that is a pain in the ass to pass every 2 years with your car and other machines)... the fair thing... not possible around here without you losing your fair ride or when push comes to shove, your licence altogether
10:25 I worked as a machinist in a petrochemicals plant and my man Sandro is spot on. I usually beveled the pipes for fabrication shop between 30 and 37.5 degrees and you get a nice V shape when you face them on each other.
11:50 allegan county fair flipper ride got stuck with kids on it a few years back. I remeber going to look at it as an Industrial Electrical Technition. It was an old Italian machine from the 80's. Needless to say I looked at it opened the electrical cabnet to a spagetti wired mess in italian, and said ya I can't take this on for liability sake.
I'm now confident that my man Sandro can do anything 😂

I think welding is more relaxing and ratio for drama/income is much better.
I'm a welder and my best friend is a tattoo artist. I keep telling him he'd make a great welder, but he's afraid of burning his ink
She's the teacher and like the good view in the automotive scene
And Sandro is the bad and darker and unfortunately reality of the auto industry, or the devil on the other shoulder. Its like salt in a batch of chocolate cookies. Not right without it
Great guest every time sandro is on I get a laugh keep up the good work for the boys
Love how comfortable Sandro is on camera now😂
About to graduate as a certified SMAW welder and GTAW welder. Its been a journey and i love it.
God bless welders one of the most blue-collar jobs you can do.
as a person that has welded for 11 years for GE im so happy to see this
I just started teaching myself to weld by watching countless hours of videos and repaired my tractor deck after running about 2 lbs of rods ❤ I love it I couldn't practice today because it was raining I need to build a shop asap 😂
Sandro and Angelina are my favorites in these videos.
I love the “hey you’re on fire…. And his brothers like “ I’m almost done!” lol
Sandro is my hero! Love his comments! I agree with him every time!
10:44 Bad welds are not only at the county fair. You'd be surprised how many are at your favorite amusement park.
Can’t wait to watch Angelina again!!!
Sandro is awesome i hope he never leaves
Flux core is my favorite; it's like mixing MIG and stick welding. And then a bit of TIG just to clean up the surface (if we're not grinding). I do alright; but I need way way way more practice before I'd put my welds out there. xD
11:00 - My welding instructor told me he inspects welds as much as he can see before he ever gets on a ride.
Graduated from welding school earlier this year and I've been working as a welder for 3 months now.
Sandro is hilarious. A natural character
Sandro is awesome. That man knows more as a mechanic, compared to some of the welders I see come into our shop lmao 😂
