I first heard this recording in 1941 while aboard RMS Nascopie, a Hudson's Bay ice-breaker enroute to the Eastern Arctic . I was 8 years old then. I am now 83 years old & this is the second time I have heard it ! A wonderful performance which brings back so many memories !

My father sang to me this song when I was. a Child. His voice was spectacular. Close my eyes and is like to ear him.

This song by Robert Stolz was originally used in his operetta 'Madam sucht Anschluss' and then in the film 'Das Lied ist aus'. It was at Tauber's suggestion that it was interpolated into the musical 'White Horse Inn' at the London Coliseum in 1931. Clifford Mollison, who sang the lead in that production, confirmed this.

My mother was a big Tauber fan and had this on a 78 RPM.

Thank you for posting! My father had this 78 record and, although I inherited it, I haven't got anything to play the 78 on. Very nice recording and a superb vocal performance.

This Japanese pressing appears to derive from the original German Odeon master, take 1, issued in the UK as RO 20138, rather than the later British remastering (reissued as take 3 on PO 138).

Wonderful! I've managed to find most of the current youtube-available recordings by Tauber, but one thing I'd love to have is a complete "Land Without Music" film on dvd. Does anyone know if such an item exists?

This song antiwar character made it banned later, and this lead Liane Haid reason to leave Germany to Switzerland "because of bomb and evil regime..."...
She won't regret this decision later... when bomb stop falling down and war was concluded...
