Tracy Chapman is an authentic master musician. Her compositions, direct delivery, and perfect delivery cannot be surpassed - simple as they may seem.

I think the song is so special for the combination of fantastic lyrics, simple melody, and the perfection of her voice.

I'm an old lady, so, I remember when Tracy first sang this song. I immediately fell in love with her wonderful voice. Thank you for this reaction to Tracy. This took me back to that first time of hearing this wonderful singer.

@@patriciamcl54 And me as well! I was so terribly fortunate to see her at DAR Constitution Hall in DC back then (which is a relatively small auditorium) and I was seated somewhere between the 10th and 15th row on the floor. I can STILL see her singing this song in my memory. It was absolutely one of the best concerts of my life! What a VOICE!

Tracy Chapman is a great singer-songwriter & storyteller. Have always loved her unusual voice. She is best known for her hit singles "Talkin' 'bout A Revolution", "Baby Can I Hold You", "Crossroads", "Give Me One Reason" etc.

The story of being trapped and trying to find a way out, making a deal with someone else, wanting better - together. And the reality of learning that life is hard, no matter how fast the car is you use to escape the life before. That is what speaks to all of us in this song.

Her pronunciations occasionally take on a bit of a Jamaican/Caribbean accent. Beautiful.

Ms Chapman has always said the car is the driver, but that the song is really the story of a relationship that can't ever realize its potential, because it starts from a place that is unhealthy. The metaphor of the car promising freedom but not delivering is extremely powerful.

So, we are going from Cakra Kahn and his near Mezzo soprano and killer rasp, to Tracy, who is almost a female baritone, with pretty smooth vocals. In Wisconsin, where the Scandahoovians play, we call that a Smorgasbord.

This song is always so beautiful to me. The lyrics hit me every time, the chords and the music are so simple...I just love Tracy Chapman...I'd never heard this live though and this version is just amazing!
Thank you Bumblebee Whisperer for putting this version in front of DJ, your choices are always wonderful...

Love Tracy! Classic song. This is the first time I have watched one of your reactions other than Home Free ones! Great reaction. I like seeing you reacting to something you have heard. I have heard all the ones that I watch reactions to, so I can imagine if I hadn't heard any of them! Try 'Give Me One Reason' by Tracy, also a classic!
