I wish they would do at least one show playing songs they have never played live before. But seeing how they have had the same setlist with the exception of a song or two from their previous two albums for the past ten years now.
Am I in the minority as a Slipknot fan who prefers that they not play the same setlist plus 1 or two new songs off whichever album they are supporting? I have seen them 9 times, that is purely a coincidence and of those 9 shows, they have probably only played 25 different songs. Obviously I love Slipknot, and not just the "singles," but songs like The Nameless, Opium of the People, Gematria (The Killing Name), Gehenna, All Hope is Gone, Nomadic, The Negative One, If Rain is What You Want, Red Flag, Solway Firth etc. etc. and now Acidic, Hive Mind, or Warranty. There was literally a 2 or 3 consecutive show stretch where the only thing different about the set list was the order in which they played the songs. My love for Slipknot cannot be overstated, hence having seen them 9 times, but with a band like Slipknot, a band that does has not really relied on radio and especially TV in years, they above all I feel like should be able to have the freedom to diversify their set lists even more. A buddy of mine went to a festival once, and one of the headliners was Linkin Park. My friend did not and does not own a single album of theirs but knew every song that they performed, and that makes sense for band like Linkin Park, a radio band. Slipknot on the other hand, in my opinion should take a page out Tool's playbook and be a littler more adventurous. Most of the songs on this show with exception of Disasterpiece and possibly Heretic, were or are singles, and they are great, but I don't understand why they feel obligated to do a show of all or mostly singles ......... until I look at the comments. "They didn't play Sic?!!" "What the fuck? No Sic" "I have Sic tattooed on my dick" When a band has been lucky enough to be around as long as they have and have a catalog like theirs, they are dealt an impossible task of trying to create a set list that will please all 9 members of the band let alone their millions of fans. And when you get fans getting pissed off every time they decide to bump one of the older ones off, their decisions become damned if they do and damned if they don't. They caught shit before as quoted by James Root for taking songs like Surfacing, Wait and Bleed, People = Shit, Sic and now Sic again it seems in the past. It's not like if you look at Pantera shows towards the end of the 90s and they were playing Cowboys, Psycho Holiday, Cemetery Gates, and Domination start to finish every night. Pantera started smashing songs together even, probably in part to address this very problem on some level. That said, this set list is still amazing and I will continue to go see them as often as I can afford to, but there has to be other diehard Slipknot fans out there who have seen them as many times as I have and noticed this pattern as well.
