PSA, I love you guys but you are blind to how you personally have become part of the problem. My first adult job was campaign staff on the Obama campaign. You all were my heroes back then--many of us joined that campaign because we felt the Dem party leadership was repeating all the same mistakes that'd given us 8 years of Bush. Instead of accepting the party candidate (Hillary), we jumped on an actually charismatic outsider candidate promising real change. And it worked, we even won Indiana! But for the last 8+ years, it feels like you all have been absorbed into the same pro-establishment political class that voters keep rejecting; you've forgotten what drew so many of us to the Obama campaign.
They're like guys that can't stop talking about how great college was. 2008 Obama was 16 years ago. PSA needs to move on. AOC is the future. Not more 70yo millionaires that do nothing about Wall Street
Thank you for posting this. I'm watching this and just getting angry. It feels like Pod Save America is just giving up and just defending and justifying the establishment that continues to fails us.
Agreed. The interview with the Harris/Walz campaign team was infuriating and Dan didn’t push back on any of it. And this episode reflects that PSA is still not listening.
You guys let everybody down the other day. People thought maybe you actually understood the situation, but since you let all of kamala’s campaign staff gaslight us the other day with no proper pushback , you’ve lost cred
"This is an exclusive." Yeah, of course it is. PSA was the only place those four could have gone where the interviewer would let them off without holding a pine knot to their feet and pushing for real answers.
Not only that, but Jon’s open hostility to Hasan’s common sense solutions which are overwhelmingly supported by the base. Universal healthcare -Jon (sigh..🙄) Using the carrot and stick/bully pulpit approach in regards to having Manchin and Sinema fall in line, Jon - (sigh…🙄)
Having Hasan on literally right afterwards made up for it. Also I feel like their answers were so bad that the push back was unnecessary, everyone saw though the gaslighting and the episode is unanimous in their dislike of them.
After listening to the whole thing, I think they actually did learn something from him. This is why, whatever the flaws of the Democratic Party writ large, I ultimately like and appreciate these guys. They can look in a mirror. Lovett’s take on Bernie’s driving force and the lack of a similar single minded focus and drive in the Democratic Party at ~min 29 was brutally honest and brave.
@@TPaine76 completely agree- theyre willing to listen and learn but people need to be patient, theyre not going to be socialist within a week. people are expecting a complete change after one conversation.
@@TPaine76 Thank you!! I feel this way too. The comments on the Hasan interview criticizing Lovett made me wonder if those commenters had even watched the video at all. And I certainly consider myself left of PSA. I'm much more receptive to criticisms of the Harris staff video, I've only seen clips of it so far but fuck they were brutal
"The reason the Democratic party has a position is because they think that's where most people are." I really disagree with this. They have a position because that's where *their donors* are, not most people, and they think voters will be willing to accept it. They moved backwards on LGBTQ issues when most voters either don't care or support them. They take money from corporate donors even though most people don't like that. They support the war in Gaza even though most people don't support it. They refuse to address things like housing, student loans, or workers' rights in a bold, meaningful way even though that's what most voters want.
@@luzsyd They are very in tune with what their voters want, and are able to clearly articulate the pain. People vote for Republicans because, to them, it sounds like they understand their problems and at least make a claim to fix them. The solutions suck and won’t actually solve their problems, and many of the problems they articulate aren’t even the actual problem. But Republicans SOUND LIKE they understand the problems of their voters and SOUND LIKE they will attempt to do what needs to be done to resolve them. Democrats are doing neither, and they will keep losing until they are able to change that.
@@liadanlei Exactly. We Dems simply do not understand the assignment. To people who aren't upper middle class+ in a deep Dem pocket, we give constant "let them eat cake" vibes with how misaligned our messaging is. And our messengers reinforce that bad narrative. We keep putting low-charisma, bureaucratic, political-heir coastal lawyers who speak in politicianese front and center at every possible chance. Of course people think we're out of touch.
@@shinnyshin7792 Yep. Even worse than just not listening, Dems straight up gaslight their voters. In this cycle when so many people were talking about how much they are struggling (with groceries, to find and maintain good employment, to pay for healthcare and childcare and housing) instead of Dems saying “yes, I hear you, and we have a plan to improve the economy” they said “our data says this is the best economy ever!!!!!” Over and over again on media like this very podcast, the overall narrative wasn’t “why do people feel like the economy sucks when the data says it doesn’t?”, it was “people are wrong when they say the economy sucks because the data says it doesn’t.” When you are struggling, are you going to vote for the party that says “the data shows you don’t actually have a problem” or the party that says “you’re right this needs to change”? Even if their methods are garbage policy and won’t actually fix the problem, it’s really hard to fight that narrative.
Completely disagree. You have to change who the DNC props up. You guys keep excusing a lack of policy discussion in the DNC because "we live in a country with a two party system." I voted for Harris and I disagree with your framing. I believe most of the base would forget about edge social questions if the party focused on actually helping people change their material conditions in a way that isn't measured by a spreadsheet or chart of GDP or of stock market growth. We want to live our lives free of economic anxiety, and that would ease the strains of social anxiety. I really think you guys are spending a lot of time having the wrong conversations.
100%. Its not like those people dealing with the edge social questions don't also have to endure the anxieties of deteriorating material conditions in this country. People from the LGBTQ community also want a living wage, also want universal healthcare, also want a home, etc. Stop placating to Republicans when they're always going to paint Democrats as the enemy no matter how much you show off your Republican endorsements and stop trying to win over uneasy voters by showing off data and spreadsheets while not running on a platform that will materially impact their lives. Even as a Kamala voter, I was not particularly excited about her platform, I was only excited about Tim Walz and the campaign neutered my boy 😭
As a disabled gay woman of childbearing age, I do not think most of my problems with living here will be resolved by growing the middle class. The problem is that the only real way to get rid of the two-party system is ranked-choice voting, and every state that had it on the ballot this cycle voted against it.
Yeah, honestly I agree. The 2 party thing doesn't really excuse the fact that Dems just don't put forward policies that resonate with people. They've gotten so lost in the polling/advertising/messaging weeds that they can't even see straight, it's just poor strategy. Look at the difference between the 2020 and the 2024 platforms. We went from raising min wage, expanding access to healthcare, protecting queer rights, protecting women's rights and codifying roe, protecting immigrants, and student loan forgiveness, to an entirely unrecognizable platform in 2024. They went from policies that help all citizens, to programs that only help very small groups or policies that are harmful to the people they're expecting a vote from. I'll never understand how a strategy could be "successful" if it means rejecting the only thing that's worked against trump so far. And sure, in 2020 people were desperate for a change and mail in ballots made voting more accessible, but people didn't vote that year bc they were bored, it's bc they were motivated. And we know "I'm not trump" isn't a good motivator because of how this election turned out, so it's reasonable to assume that the 2020 platform was what made a difference against trump.
@@megroy6396, what if the only way to get a govt that helps address your needs is to elect Democrats, and what is the only way for Dems to get elected is for them to show a majority of voters that the Dem party improves their economic situation. I'm trying to make a serious point that the Dems have to win in order to accomplish anything.
The DNC is banking on Trump's Presidency being so horrific to normies, that they will be begging for the DNC's next Corporate candidate, Liz Cheney for President 2028!!!!! The system works.
If they knew so effin much during the campaign, they don't seem to have imparted a lot of helpful info. We're still coming off a huge shock and depression from the election and this kind of crap from Favreau, et al, is not helpful. I won't be subscribing and paying. It's like just one more poll. If you knew so much, how come you didn't pass that along for a win.
I think the saddest thing about our political system is not that it's a two party system. It's that it has turned into an industry that feeds into the American capitalistic economy. We have "political seasons" like we have football season. We have commentary. We have merchandise. We have ad buys. We have play-by-play strategy. We have post-analysis. It has taken something serious, managing the country for the betterment of its citizens, and commoditized it, commercialized it, and put it on a lunchbox. That's what makes me sad about American politics.
In other words it has become a new sport for americans to lose themselves in. The drama and propaganda IS the game. And the top 1% are making money and a lot off of all of it.
I mean, I think it's unfortunate Americans need their political leaders to be entertaining celebrities who are super fun and funny. That's not really what makes a good President.
Democrats need to focus on their younger talent. These dinosaurs like Schumer, Pelosi, and others who have been languishing in their positions for decades are blocking new talent and that’s my biggest pet peeve there members in both Congress and Senate that I’ve had to vote for since the 80s.
After watching the interview that Tim Miller had with Cameron Kasky yesterday, and I think Cameron made a good point about Beto being a potential choice. He would never win in Texas, but no Dem will anytime soon. I didn't start following politics until after his last campaign, but the few town halls of his that I did watch gives me the impression that he's a real dude. most notably, he's not afraid to swear at people in public lol. In a time where facts don't matter and being a genuine conversationalist (even if it's a genuine belief of bullshit) gets votes, then why not?
Pelosi's no longer in leadership. The Dem House Minority Leader is Hakeem Jeffries. I realize she still holds her seat and wields influence as a long-serving member, but that's up to the people in her district. As for Schumer, my guess is that before leadership elections happen, he may step aside.
I predict that a year from now, when their subscribers have left in droves, they'll completely change their tune in a desperate attempt to stay relevant and keep their jobs.
I love you guys, watch you every single day. In fact, you’re the reason I got involved in the North Carolina democratic campaign and helped get Lindsey Prather and Jeff Jackson elected. you are not learning the right lessons from this election, to tell people that the party is not the problem is wrong. in North Carolina we are still having issues paying people for the work they did to organize. Our leadership is telling us that nothing is wrong. Our media is telling us that nothing is wrong. you all are telling us nothing is wrong and I’m sorry but anyone with eyes can see everything is wrong. There needs to be serious deep internal looks on the crooked team and the Democratic party as a whole. Love you all and appreciate the work you do, please do some soul searching.
One of them saying that Joe Biden didn't have a messaging problem is so frustrating. Do they realize how many people work in healthcare? How many people are disabled and at risk for COVID? We have not forgotten how Biden announced COVID was over and prematurely celebrated, leading to the deadliest wave of the entire pandemic. We healthcare workers will NEVER forget that, because we watched person after person DIE terrifying, violent deaths. Waving goodbye to their children from WINDOWS. His messaging problem literally KILLED PEOPLE!!! I also haven't forgotten how he and the entire Democratic Party insisted that the economy was strong when prices went up 200% just to put FOOD on the table.
Based on their replies on twitter to any criticism they will be defensive and talk down to those who are concerned about how the consultants learned nothing.
this is just meaningless fake intellectual bullshit. Politicians get voted out if they don't sufficiently reflect their voters. You're coping with the fact that Trump just almost won 50% and is going to destroy the ACA even while you think most of his voters are secret Bernie loving progressives who want Medicare For All
3:40 "It's about persuading a majority of voters to move closer to where you are" Then why didnt the Harris campaign push anything left? Ran to the right on every issue to court those centrists, and for what?
The Harris campaign did try persuading a majority of voters to move closer to where they are. They are just further right than most think. 'Diet Right' if you will.
Because conservative tax cuts and kleptocracy appeals to the millionare millenials sipping late in their private podcasting studio... oh wait, they support gay people. i must be completely wrong and actually a trump supporter
@@nicholsonfile Moderate literally isn't a position on anything. Stop acting like it means anything, you're either for or against a position. This idea that a person is just middle of the road as a political identity is such an absurd claim.
Well conservative politicians learned that they can denigrate Dems all they want and have voted for Trump twice and Dems will still welcome them with open arms (and a Glock!) if Trump or other Republicans get tired of them. Netanyahu learned that he can denigrate Dems all he wants and actively root for Trump and Dems will still welcome him with open arms sales (and 100 American troops!) if Trump ever gets tired of him. Trans people and Muslims and progressives and college kids learned that they can support Dems all they want and campaign for Clinton and Biden but Dems will throw them under the bus if Bill Maher or Joe Scarborough or David Brooks start complaining about “extreme wokeism” based on some random Twitter comment. So I guess Dems didn’t learn anything really, but lots of other folks did.
That the past does not tell us what to do in the future. We really need to quit wasting our time looking back. Jon is right, we need to change the electorate, not the DNC (well yes, the DNC too).
Jon Favs saying that Democratic politicians are where the public is and that progressives need to figure out how to move the public to their positions flies in the face of a ton of 60/40, 70/30, etc issues that Dems just won't do anything more than pay lip service to (if that). At most, Jon's take is accurate to where the Democrat politicians are on *social* progressivism, because inclusion doesn't harm donor interests. Dem politicians are nowhere near as progressive as the American public on an issue by issue basis (understanding that the same voters who would balk at being called progressives will also call for the government to keep their damn hands off their social security and disability checks.)
Part of the problem is Democrats allow Republicans to develop all the narratives and then either be defensive of their position or capitulate to the Republicans'narratives. The other problem is that the current Democrats have no core beliefs or values and will shift their position based on where they think they can get more donations from the rich and where they can pick up a few extra votes.
This is exactly right and I’m glad we’re starting to push back on this narrative. The large majority of Americans support LGBTQ+ people, gun control, Medicare for all, higher tax rates on 1% and corporations - it’s just that dem politicians and influential folks in the party buck to corporate interests and the establishment.
I think the context of this was the sort of purity politics/tests that tend to really hurt otherwise excellent candidates in our primary system. The point being that the target of their activism shouldn't be the politicians, it should be the public. If you think you're right, go persuade other people. Righteousness doesn't win elections.
@@mteacher9811disagree. I think challenging each other in a primary and criticizing one another is very helpful. Tough primaries create tough candidates that can weather the storms of inevitable controversy. I think toeing the party line allows weak candidates and faulty ideals to fester like rot. It’s not a coincidence Obama, Trump, and Biden all went through a tough primary where they were heavily criticized and then won the election. Whereas candidates which had relatively easy or no primaries like Romney, McCain, Clinton, and Harris all lost.
As a longtime listener, the most recent episode with the Biden/Kamala staff was truly your worst podcast I’ve heard in my 6+ years listing to y’all. Sad. Did the campaign only agree to the interview if there was no pushback? Only agree to talk if they could vent? Yawn. Sounds familiar…

The PSa boys are stuck in 2008 and can't move on. They were at their peak during the Obama/Hilary years and can't even understand normal Americans now. These guys literally think that political parties follow the public instead of the rich donor class. It's absurd. They just published a book that was all bullshit since it's clear the PSA mindset lost ALL branches of government.
Favs is wrong about needing to persuade “the party” vs persuading “a majority of voters”. The majority of voters approve of progressive policies - they just don’t like Democratic politicians who are actively hostile to progressive policies and progressive politicians and prefer cozying up to neocons and establishment politicians. The party is out of touch with the majority of voters - not the other way around! If Party leaders understood this, Trump wouldn’t have won in 2016 or been a political force since.
There are polls that prove that progressive policies are broadly popular. There’s a reason people voted against abortion bans and for minimum wage increases in states where Trump won by an overwhelming majority. Maybe you need to re-examine your priors
The progressive approach to homelessness leads to more homeless, the progressive approach to drugs leads to more addicts and ODs, the progressive approach to crime leads to more crime, and the progressive approach to the border leads to an explosion of illegals. The common denominator of all progressive policies is human suffering. This election was a direct rebuke of progressivism. Sorry to break it to you, but the country doesn’t approve of progressivism.
The biggest con the GOP has pulled is to convince that the reason the Democrats lose is that they're not Republican enough. Exactly the opposite is true. Dems need fire the consultant class and go back to their labor roots.
Inviting a guest on the show doesn't equate to adopting their views. Personally, I didn't watch the whole Hasan show. I found him to be arrogant and aggressive. I see he has a big following. If Dems want to claw back any cultural relevance, Harris should still go on Rogan. Show his listeners that she wasn’t only considering doing it for political reasons (people today hate politics). Go on the show, be a normal person who talks like a normal person and doesn’t talk in political code, and show that Dems are normal people. Would be good for 2026.
They can throw out as many excuses as they want, the reason is she would’ve been exposed as the empty suit she was from the beginning when Biden picked her. I hope some common sense democrat goes on though

Disclaimer: I'm a recent listener to the pod, probably just for the rest of the year (post-election stuff). I'm amazed at the disconnect between the hosts and their audience over the last few weeks. Seems that these Obama bros will be part of the cause for the next Dem failure. A shame.
What exactly is an "Obama Bro"? Is that different from a "Bernie Bro"? Or a "Rogan Bro"? Is a "bro" the same as an "old white dude"? Do status-quo Democrats reject all "bros" or just some? And they say Democrats have a "man problem"! What?
So glad somebody brought up the fundraising problem. We can’t even give to local campaigns without being harassed for YEARS for every race- even outside my state. It makes me want to never give $
True - I’ve wondered if how much texting and emailing the Harris campaign did (even after I unsubscribed to both they kept coming soooo often) could have turned people off to her. Didn’t change my vote - I was 💯not going to vote for Trump no matter what. But I would get them, feel annoyed by them and 🤔 I wonder if anyone is feeling disrespected by these coming even after they’ve unsubbed and thus feel not listened to and disrespected and decided not to vote at all or lean towards Trump. I also think door knocking was most likely annoying to most people and also a possible turn off /away. IRL interaction is needed and a sense of community but door knocking these days most people I know find that intrusive and pushy. Perhaps small town halls that have great snacks and a balance of fun and serious discussion that people are invited to by mail that are walking distance from thier homes might be a better “ground game” 🤷♀️
I literally gave a couple dollars in 2020 and yesterday alone I saw six or seven emails harassing me for money. I was checking my email for food coupons... I will never donate again. Not ever. I won't forget being hungry.
You guys really embarrassed yourselves with the Harris staff the other day and continue to with videos like this. You're just proving that you're more part of the problem then an actual messenger for a solution. Go listen to your own interview with Hassan, he's got a much better finger on the pulse of where the party needs to go then any of you do. Relying on Trump to create a mess IS NOT going to get the Democrats more votes. People are going to stop listening to your podcast if you just fixate on how bad Trump is. 11:02 Disappointing to try and sweep the obvious shift in discourse in Democratic/liberal circles under the rug by essentially pretending it's nothing because no one has proposed a Democratic policy yet. Further worsened by the surprising choice to try and interpret Seth Moulton's comments as something other than the obvious hostile scapegoating it was.
I can't express how disenfranchised I feel from the trans discussion. I hear you saying that Democrats aren't considering throwing trans people like me under the bus, but that's actually what is happening, and denying that is frankly turning me further away from the party. Over the last 20 years, I've consistently voted for and donated to the Democratic party. I honestly don't think I can do that again. The country needs to change. Republicans want to change it for the worse, Democrats want everything to stay the same. Neither party are on my side.
The fact is, the Democrats have at least been change-able. Just look at what happened with Biden dropping out. It was late, but it still at least happened. Republicans instead just double-down and only care about their own benefit. Any changes they say they will make to their behavior turn out to be lies. It's just to get people to stop talking about them until the news cycle shifts to be about Democrats. Republicans and their propagandists trying so hard to make you at least think of Democrats as being just as bad, shows that even they understand that Democrats are the better party you should be supporting over them.
I've been listening to you guys for a couple years, and agree with the overwhelming majority of your perspectives. I assume you will never see this, but it doesn't matter if you are correct. The voters didn't care. You're making the same mistake as before. I'm not talking about helping democrats get elected, I'm talking about helping appeal to anti-establishment voters, even if that means drifting away from politicians you may feel loyal to. You guys are in the best position to do this because we all know that a career politician will listen to donors and lobbyists before voters.
These guys are sticking to the same old game plan that they used to lose the last election. Conservatives are so grateful you are still trying to push this on people!
My thoughts as well. As an ex-Democrat I want a strong opposition to the Republican Party and not a Critical Theory ideologically captured party unable to support independent thought.
@@stevenrn6640 Steve Manchin is that you? I'm part of a liberal reorganizing (?) effort in MA- an overwhelmingly Democratic state whose institutions (as a result) are frequently corrupt and incompetent. We have major problems with state and local police systemic corruption, judicial corrution, refusal to implement financial oversight initiatives and a major lack of transparency in every area. Right now our effort in this group is to focus on events and issues and to ignore political party because of what has happened in the Commonwealth. So rebuilding the party is NOT a goal for me because here the party is so terrible. The GOP is, of course, worse.

Yeah they love that whole “shut up and get in line” answer when people express honest discontent with the Democratic Party. This person asked for a genuine reason to still invest and their response is to get over it that’s how it is. That’s how you lose the popular vote lol.
Okay, but reality is what it is. If you could change the Democratic party to not be hostile to third parties (like magically, overnight) you'd already have the party you wanted as a viable third party in the first place: a party that is actually responsive to its voter base. The two parties of the two party system act as predictably as you'd expect with regards to the formation of a third major party, because history shows that if that happens we don't end up with a 3 party system, we end up with a 2 party system and a dead party.
There's a big difference between neoliberal Democrats on the left! There's not a big difference between Republicans and Democrats. The American voters are closer to The Left on most issues but don't want to vote for the monied class or donor class of people who tell us how terrible the GOP is when The DNC is just as bad. Hassan Piker is 100% right! 💙🌏💙
The DNC is not "just as bad" and that's the problem. You've all been convinced that a corrupt insurrectionist rapist that wants mass deportation and tearing down of the government is "just as bad" as any Democrat, and that is just plainly illogical and idiotic. It's also what mainstream media has been pushing on you people for the last 2 decades.
There are an estimated 1.6 million trans people in the U.S. (0.6%) There are an estimated 29.3 million rape victims in the U.S. (11%) You are 18 times more likely to be standing in line next to a rape victim than a trans person. (This number could be double since only about 40% of rapes are reported.) Since 95.4% of perpetrators are male, your chances of standing in line next to a rapist is significantly greater than standing next to a trans person. Being more afraid of a trans person than a rapist is not only a cruel, but also a dangerous kind of insane. Let me break down those statistics in a different way: In a room of 100 representative people you are likely to be with: 11 rape victims (10 female and 1 male) - perhaps double. Enough rapists to create these 11 victims, given recidivism; estimated at 3 - also perhaps double. And a 50/50 chance of having 1 Trans person in the room.
That's chilling to think 22% of the population has been the victim of a rape and yet we aren't treating it like the crisis it really is. That's an insanely high number. Can you imagine if it was any other situation where 22% of the population sick or hurt or really anything else? It would be on the news every day non stop for months.
So I was at the women’s march DC in 2017. 💯 It was an amazing, exhausting, expensive and life changing event. I’m almost 70 now so I won’t be making another trip like that. I’m hoping for more activism from both men and women this time. There doesn’t seem to be much enthusiasm for it because the constant battle over the last eight years has just taken a toll but the fight for the future and the next election is going to require a more effective media influence. As well as, a continuous physical presence at local and national events. Touting the good Democrats did while Biden was in office and reminding people we do care about their issues. Understanding and supporting actions that address people’s needs. I’m taking a minute to regroup but IMO getting mad at the Democratic Party, the campaign staff and Biden is a waste of my energy. Major screws up and we lost. Acknowledged and accepted. 2026 and 2028 started November 6th. The fight to save democracy doesn’t have time for us to take our toys and go home. I’ve been introduced to several new media figures through Lovett’s interview with Hassan. Never heard of these people before he mentioned them on the pod. I’m sure some of these people would love to see a legislator on their show. I’m hoping younger people will take the reins now and be bold going forward. If not, we really are screwed because the Handmaid’s Tale, Gilded Age group feel empowered to take the Republic down. It won’t be pretty. I’d urge Democrats to infiltrate right wing and popular media as much as possible. We also need to get on progressive sites more often. But every appearance doesn’t have to sound like a campaign speech. Message discipline has to stop sounding like DC talking points. Tim Walz was really good at retail communication. We didn’t condemn him for telling people to mind their own business. Seth Moulton’s statement about trans people in sports was about how he felt about one aspect of the issue. People can be supportive of a group without agreeing with every bit of their positions. I’m gay and I voted for Clinton and Obama even when they opposed gay marriage because I knew I had a better chance of convincing them than any Republicans. Turned out, the much maligned Joe Biden, was a catalyst for that.
Sarah McBride did the right thing by saying she will focus on looking out for her constituents in delaware and not get baited into an idiot fight with mace the idiot. If Sarah McBride was brilliant she would make her first speech on the hill be about how working class in delaware will be worse off from Trumps 25% tariffs on mexico and canada.
I don't normally comment, but I'm glad you brought up the fundraising. Yesterday I'm looking for any food coupons in my email inbox and instead seeing a flood of Democrats asking me for money. It made me so angry. It was such a darkly funny contrast. I won't forget being hungry and seeing six or seven Democratic politicians asking me for money.
I was a member of Democratic Party for 2 months. They sent me about 100 emails a day, which wasted so much of my time. I wrote to about 8 or 10 explaining why I was moving back to my lifetime party: Independents.
Maybe elections are basically 50/50 because the parties are milquetoast versions of each other in very important ways. Dems cede the messaging to the GOP and don't differentiate themselves. There's an opportunity here, but it requires bravery
The republicans have basically stopped being a political party. They are no longer about policy. They sell points like anti-immigration and abortion bans to the masses to get elected, in order for them and their rich cronies to exploit the country for their own profit as much as possible. People like Trump and Musk despise the people who vote for them..
Hard to believe this cluster. An insurrectionist is about to be sworn in and they are discussing the wearing of skinny jeans. Like what in the actual F?
The way to foster progress in a 2-party system is by supporting the most progressive candidate that you can. Unfortunately, that only works it the party apparatus is on board with this, and isn't using institutional power (and a massive campaign chest) to weaken progressive candidates and boost centrists; who at this point are just conservatives with better brand awareness.
Absolutely pathetic. Tell me you learned nothing, without telling me you learned nothing. I'm done with your show and look forward to your subscribers tanking. You've earned it.
Do you see the irony of being so supportive of abandoning Afghanistan, and also pitching an episode discussing how horrible Afghanistan is since we abandoned it?
It’s important to remember that we were allied with drug dealing warlord pedos while we were in Afghanistan. It was never good and it was always going to be bad when we left. Another 20 years there wouldn’t have solved it. It’s excellent and brave that Biden left
7 minutes in and their discussing social issues. Like damn, it’s not that difficult. The rent is too damn high. Groceries are unaffordable. All under Biden, who rapidly declined. PSA should have made a stance years ago pushing for Biden to uplift a new progressive candidate.
You can say "it's not that difficult" all you want, but in reality there's more context to what actually happened vs what people were made to believe. Republicans lied to you. They've been lying for decades. Their tax reform bill skyrocketed U.S debt, they're the ones that have voted against bills that would fix things because they want to campaign on those things not working. (ex. voting against FEMA funding, so can campaign on Biden's FEMA not doing enough) Bush's policies sent the economy downward, eventually resulting in the 2008 "great recession" -> Obama's policies passed to fix it sent economy upward -> Republicans blame Obama for the effect's of Bush's policies -> Trump gets elected, Republicans take credit for the effects of Obama's policies -> repeat but this time is Trump and Biden.
As a nation, most people vote on the basis of harm reduction. There must be 10s of millions of potential voters if policies started reflecting the will of the people. How about politicians starting meeting voters where they are at.
Exactly. These guys get pounded and just try to analyze why everyone else was wrong 😂 clowns for sure. But they laugh at everyone else and have no nuance.
Please stop saying that we the people just need to tolerate republican assholes more. The people don't move to support the politics, thats backwards. The entire job of politics is to represent the people, in all of their annoying SJW glory. Democratic power cannot be contingent on progressives being quieter. The Democratic establishment needs to change by doing politics (which is their job, not ours) to be able to better accommodate all wings of the party. Solving the question of a winning coalition is on the party, not the people.
I’m going to add myself back to the non voters on 2028. Bernie brought me into the party in 2016 but there’s point voting for a party that so clearly doesn’t even care about winning
Ironic, considering non-voters are the reason Harris didn't win. Trump only got almost 2 mil more votes than last time. You know how many non-voters screwed us? Around 10 mil. Because they cared more about themselves than they cared about the people who are going to be hurt by Trump.
No, these guys are skating around the way the DNC went to the right during this election, as it did in 2020 and 2016. It's not that we need to get voters on our side, it's that Dem party needs to do what voters want, instead of pleasing the megadonors. Don't act so dumb.
Jon, Dems need to moderate the far left outrage & self-righteousness. But never abandon those who need help most. My grand-uncle was a pioneering plastic surgeon who did sex change ops. So my folks & I grew up knowing that science can help set free folks who’ve felt stuck in their birth bodies. At the same time, we need to hear the fears of Republicans about children undergoing such ops. Understandably, folks need reassurance that parents, doctors & the law will adequately protect minors facing major life decisions. Hearing people out is what we all need to do. I think if GLAAD spent less time outraging & more time educating (itself too), the general public wouldn’t view ‘woke’ as a dirty word, but as a word to describe an awareness of the struggles & hardships of others, & finding empathy for those unlike us. Applies to Israel/Gaza too.
Honest question: Are there any promising American politicians who are atheist or agnostic? Because to me it feels like having to (or at least pretending to) believe in god is a major requirement in the US.
There was one Congressman who was openly atheist, named Pete Stark. He served for decades, until 2013. There were, I believe, a few others who “came out” as atheists after serving. There have also been a few others that described themselves as agnostic (Krysten Sinema is one of them). I believe you can count them all on one hand, who were openly atheist or agnostic. In general, religious belief (even if it’s just abstract) is indeed a required litmus test for political office in this country, even though the Constitution *explicitly says* that it is forbidden. In only really became like this with the rise of evangelicalism in the early 20th century; there were many irreligious politicians in the distant past, including nearly all of the Founding Fathers of the United States.
Why does it matter what religion someone is if their duty is to work for the people? Only right-wingers push Christianity on others. Pushing atheism on everyone is just as bad as pushing religion on everyone. Yes, there have been atheists and agnostics, and some of the founders of the US had agnostic tendencies, btw.
Vivek Ramaswamy went on Rogan during the republican primaries. He did not win. It's not a magic bullet. The candidate has to be extraordinarily good that all these podcasts want to talk about him/her even with other guests. A podcast can't push an average candidate.
@@living_water-oh please, it's safe to say that the candidate who isn't too cowardly to sit with Joe for a couple hours has a leg up on the one who is.
@@living_water-OP didn’t say it was a magic bullet, they said only a fool would ignore his audience. Within a couple of days that trump interview had *40 million views on TH-cam ALONE* Bernie was right to go on, and the only way Kamala was right to not go on is if she would’ve done poorly and I frankly think she would have though a one hour convo probably would’ve been fine. Going forward we should never nominate anyone who can’t go do 3 hrs on Joe Rogan. It’s disqualifying in the modern media environment.
@Unclejamsarmy 70 million people watched the debate and most thought she won. I'm just trying to caution people from thinking one interview or one debate is enough to move votes. You need a good message and an exceptional messenger. Dems were negative on economy and immigration and Biden nor Kamala could positively turn that sentiment. Rogan or not.
@@living_water- yes she did win, though as an aside that’s completely unlike Rogan. Biden was not remotely an exceptional messenger in 2020 and he won. If Kamala had broken from Biden and said she’d do things on the economy and Israel differently and been a bit populist she might have been able to win. She was a poor candidate and did the most obviously dumb strategy possible of refusing to distance at all from a guy so unpopular she had to replace him, who was in danger of losing NM and NJ. Then despite all of their internal polling showing she was losing to trump they just stuck with the same strategy. So I don’t think it’s as obvious that she couldn’t have won no matter what. It wasn’t that large of a margin trump won by and he was a weak candidate who performed terribly, nowhere near his 2016 presence. If we’re just talking about Rogan, nowhere here said it would have won the election but yes, all else the same, it alone would not have won the election. But the decision was a sign of of being out of touch with normies and/or avoiding millions of $ worth of earned media due to poor performance skills.
Not them saying the party isn't progressive is because of the base. The base wants economic progressive policies, but Dems are too beholden to their donors
You are the example of spending so much time on a minute part of the society. Everyone deserves to live,as they want, but don't ask everybody to support them.
You boys better re-calibrate or the brand will suffer. People aren't falling for the old way of thinking anymore, you better go full on populist or listeners will leave.
Bernie can go on these shows and take the hit's because everyone knows where his heart is. A core motivating reason he's in politics. People don't know where the consensus Dem Parties heart is. Their 'core motivating reason', if you will. Let me draw you a map- $$ then left $$$ then right $$$$$$$.
No one should have to convince the 1st person/question. The answer should come from within. What are your values and what are you doing about them to support the party? 2. Trans. How did this become a democratic issue? The issue is really discrimination. Discrimination against people who are different, people of color, women losing reproductive rights, immigrants. Their agenda is to spread fear, hate, oppression. We need to do better at attributing these characteristics to repubs.
"Will Biden's legacy be similar to LBJ's?" Even that is such a flattering way to frame Biden's failures. For many of us, Biden's solidly in the Neville Chamberlain category--worse, arguably.
They definitely still live in the era of Obama. The world has changed drastically but they’ve yet to notice or admit it.
obamna directly gave us drumpf. stupid neolibs will never learn.
You guys are seriously not meeting the moment.
You guys let everybody down the other day. People thought maybe you actually understood the situation, but since you let all of kamala’s campaign staff gaslight us the other day with no proper pushback , you’ve lost cred
The smugness is hilarious. It’s so good. Can’t wait for collapse of the show
"This is an exclusive." Yeah, of course it is.
@@dragonslaya16having Hasan on made up for it?😅 The democratic party is doomed
Glad to see they picked up absolutely nothing from the Hasan interview. Jesus the democratic party is fucked.
Yep. They will never learn and continue to lose.
The interview started with Jon calling Hasan a dumbass leftist, and that’s all you really need to know to get how it went.
"The reason the Democratic party has a position is because they think that's where most people are."
I really disagree with this. They have a position because that's where *their donors* are, not most people, and they think voters will be willing to accept it. They moved backwards on LGBTQ issues when most voters either don't care or support them. They take money from corporate donors even though most people don't like that. They support the war in Gaza even though most people don't support it. They refuse to address things like housing, student loans, or workers' rights in a bold, meaningful way even though that's what most voters want.
well said!
Yes Republicans address ALL the issues a real party for the people!?!?
In this cycle when so many people were talking about how much they are struggling (with groceries, to find and maintain good employment, to pay for healthcare and childcare and housing) instead of Dems saying “yes, I hear you, and we have a plan to improve the economy” they said “our data says this is the best economy ever!!!!!” Over and over again on media like this very podcast, the overall narrative wasn’t “why do people feel like the economy sucks when the data says it doesn’t?”, it was “people are wrong when they say the economy sucks because the data says it doesn’t.”
When you are struggling, are you going to vote for the party that says “the data shows you don’t actually have a problem” or the party that says “you’re right this needs to change”?
Really good comment I agree

Funny thing is PSA will never be honest about what went wrong because they are a product of the current establishment.

Right on, in fighting and all
I think the saddest thing about our political system is not that it's a two party system.
Term limits please
Football season has become ridiculous, almost every day during the season
Trust does matter and this country has lost it.

Pelosi's no longer in leadership. The Dem House Minority Leader is Hakeem Jeffries. I realize she still holds her seat and wields influence as a long-serving member, but that's up to the people in her district. As for Schumer, my guess is that before leadership elections happen, he may step aside.

Well conservative politicians learned that they can denigrate Dems all they want and have voted for Trump twice and Dems will still welcome them with open arms (and a Glock!) if Trump or other Republicans get tired of them.

Issue polls are lying to you. If there was a really pro M4A electorate candidates who support it would win more elections.
Sad.

These guys literally think that political parties follow the public instead of the rich donor class. It's absurd. They just published a book that was all bullshit since it's clear the PSA mindset lost ALL branches of government.

Absolutely nothing. They have officially become part of the problem.
Stop trying to project yourself onto the entire electorate, it's a bit silly.

What exactly is an "Obama Bro"? Is that different from a "Bernie Bro"? Or a "Rogan Bro"? Is a "bro" the same as an "old white dude"? Do status-quo Democrats reject all "bros" or just some? And they say Democrats have a "man problem"! What?
These are very poor takes.

There are an estimated 1.6 million trans people in the U.S. (0.6%)
There are an estimated 29.3 million rape victims in the U.S. (11%)
You are 18 times more likely to be standing in line next to a rape victim than a trans person.
(This number could be double since only about 40% of rapes are reported.)
Since 95.4% of perpetrators are male, your chances of standing in line next to a rapist is significantly greater than standing next to a trans person.
Being more afraid of a trans person than a rapist is not only a cruel, but also a dangerous kind of insane.
Let me break down those statistics in a different way:
In a room of 100 representative people you are likely to be with:
11 rape victims (10 female and 1 male) - perhaps double.
Nobody is afraid of trans people 😅.
Exactly crime is a more pressing issue that affects more americans than trans issues

Biden or any president doesn't control the cost of groceries. Biden has had an incredibly progressive record.
I’m going to add myself back to the non voters on 2028. Bernie brought me into the party in 2016 but there’s point voting for a party that so clearly doesn’t even care about winning
Your defeatist huff is music to republicans' ears.
@@Tao_Tologyit’s a harsh truth buddy sorry… Democratic Party is actively working against us. It’s debatable if it can even be saved at this point.
Ironic, considering non-voters are the reason Harris didn't win. Trump only got almost 2 mil more votes than last time. You know how many non-voters screwed us? Around 10 mil. Because they cared more about themselves than they cared about the people who are going to be hurt by Trump.
The way u guys answered the trans problem and the first question is exactly the problem with the democratic party
These chumps will never understand because they are PAID not to understand.
Ty. It seems like the uneducated and naive from the Far Left fringe have taken over the comment section. We must resist their extremism
Rogan doesn't interview. It's long form conversation. Only a fool would ignore his audience. It's larger than all legacy media combined.
Within a couple of days that trump interview had *40 million views on TH-cam ALONE*
Bernie was right to go on, and the only way Kamala was right to not go on is if she would’ve done poorly and I frankly think she would have though a one hour convo probably would’ve been fine.
The base wants economic progressive policies, but Dems are too beholden to their donors
the one thing Biden will be remembered for will be him being too old and not stepping aside and for his catastrophic debate.
You are the example of spending so much time on a minute part of the society. Everyone deserves to live,as they want, but don't ask everybody to support them.
You guys are missing the point. Cmon.
The left raised (and spent) far more $$$$$$$$ than the right spent $$$.
