Dianne Mize hi Dianne...I'm watching all of your tips again...seems I always pic something up..could I ask you..at the 4:07 min you talk about the sides of the canvas...what if it's a tree? I see many putting trees on the sides ..half a tree...or entire tree...even the foliage half...I read somewhere the artist talked about the corners as a "no fly zone," ? Thank you for your time...
Gigiscottos, It's a matter of visual clarity. We're not just making pictures. We are composing visual space. If we split an image half way off the edge, we create a visual ambiguity. What we want is visual clarity. So it's best to place the image in such a way that it suggests that the rest of it lives outside the canvas without splitting it in half. About the "no fly zone", somebody made that up as a way to explain a point. Cutting off the corners as I explain in the Quick Tip, isolates that area from the rest of the painting. That, too, creates visual confusion. One way to think about this is to be willing to rethink old habits and practices by composing your space rather than just placing images willy nilly. Hope this helps.
I absolutely love you quick tips thank you xx
Thanks again for your wonderful quick tip
My pleasure.
Gracias
