Thanks for the great comment! Honestly I read through all the reviews not just on Amazon, but on Consumer Reports, and any other sources I can find before purchasing any product to try and get a feel for what it is I'm buying. I try to do as much research as possible and also will do an honest review on here as well, if something doesn't work, I'll let viewers know! If this thing starts breaking, I'll let folks know. So far it's doing well.
So cool update! We just had a ton of rain and I wasn't really thinking about it but the downpour added another inch or two of water to the pool levels, anyway I tossed the robot into the pool and was netting out some surface debris while the robot was doing it's thing. I turned around and the robot was up on the tanning shelf cleaning! I was surprised, just that little bit of rain apparently was enough to make it so the bot could clean the tanning ledge. I'm going to see if I want to adjust the pool float up about an inch to allow this to clean from now on.
So glad I bought this robot, we have had a lot of wind lately blowing dirt and debris into the pool and this Dolphin Sigma Robot has saved me hours of pool brushing and manual vacuuming and cleaning.
Thank you so much for making this video. It is so satisfying to see how Dolphin Sigma clean up your dirty pool. I love it and you make my job so much easier on how to pick which Dolphin Pool robots. Thanks!
Hello, and thank you for the kind comments! The Dolphin Sigma has been a fantastic robotic pool cleaner, I've had it for over three years now, and did have to send it in for service once in that amount of time. (See my other video for that) When I contacted the makers (Maytronics) they were amazing, they had me box my unit up, send it into them, and they performed all the repairs free of charge (3 year Warranty) and sent it back to me working like a new one. That on top of this being a great pool cleaner, their repair service helped me to decide that if this robotic cleaner ever breaks for good, I'll be buying from these guys again, the customer service was spot on. Thanks for your comment!
Hey one thing worth a mention and maybe I'm letting my pool robot do too much work, but when I pull it out of the pool, a small amount of silt drops out of the bottom of it. So I take it out very carefully now not to disturb the filters. It's still working like a champ, just wanted to update with this note.
Just a quick update. I've had this unit get stuck a few times on the shelf by the slide where it's rounded off. Not a deal breaker, but it's happened maybe 3 times since I've owned it. Just had to move it a little and off it goes, or it will eventually get going again.
That's a great question and to be honest the WiFi is nice, but could be a lot better considering how much we are paying for this robot. I have used it, but for the most part find that every few days it auto-disconnects and I have to reconnect the unit to the network. BT same thing. So if they were to upgrade the hardware, it would be much better but to save time I found I don't use the WiFi feature very much. Overall the robot does really well, even after two years of hard use and abuse. I need to to a follow-up video, I haven't had to service the Sigma, or do anything special other than swap the fine filters once. Thanks for the comment! 🌊
Hello, great video! The most thorough and helpful I have seen on the Sigma, and it is what I need to make a purchase decision. Also thank you for the follow up comments that give extra tidbits, let me know it is working long term for you, and answering the folks who have had poor experiences. A bunch of questions if you don’t mind: 1) Do you know what is different in the 2023 version they are selling now? 2) My lights stick out from the wall, do you know how it will handle those? 3) Is it recommended to leave the sigma in the water most of the time? and if not, I’m not sure what the utility is for the scheduling feature, what do you think? 4) Do you use the regular filters for one run first and then switch to the fine filters for a second run, or do you have another technique? 5) I have a bubble pool cover (kind that floats on the water), and I would rather not take it off and put it back on for every cleaning. Do you think that will be an issue when it cleans the water line? 6) Do you recommend any regular maintenance and/or part replacements? Thanks again!!!
Thank you for the comments, and questions. 1) The big difference in model years I can see, and it will certainly help is they went from Bluetooth, to actual WiFi connection on the controller box and remodeled the controller a bit. The Bluetooth wasn't very reliable, so that will be an improvement. 2) I have just the one pool floodlight that sticks out on the side of the pool about an inch and a half, and its slick and curved, pretty large but this robot goes right over the top of it to clean the water line. Some folks have said that the Sigma gets stuck on the bottom vents or drains, mine stick up about half an inch and it tracks right over them both. 3) So the "factory recommendation" says not to leave the robot in the pool for more than 24hours, and I pull it out after each cleaning cycle. To me that makes the entire program think kind of a gimmick, and I honestly don't use the scheduling thing anyway, if the pool needs cleaning, in it goes. If we haven't had any wind, or stuff blown in, then it's good. 4) I tried the regular filters a couple of times but didn't like them because we have really fine red sand and silt that gets carried by the wind and deposited into the pool, the super fine filters catches all of that stuff and works great! I also found aftermarket filters that are really fine that work on this thing. (link in the description). 5) If you have a floating bubble cover, you might be ok putting in the robot so long as the hose can move freely underneath it, and it can come up along the edge. I'd sit and watch it for a bit to make sure it doesn't grab the edge of the cover or get stuck on something. Just do a test run first and keep an eye on it. 6) Swap the filters every 3 months, also clean those filters out with water after each run, the Sigma won't work well if the filters get gummed up. There is also an impeller on the top of the unit, make sure that doesn't get hair, or in our case palm strands wound up into it, if it does, pull them out gently. Happy to help!
You rock, thank you so much! @@FixMyBleep I'm making a decision between the Sigma, M400, and M600. Whichever cleans the best and will be the most reliable is the one I will purchase. If I was in the states, I would definitely get the M400 or M600 so I can have a dealer like Pelican service it if needed. However, this robot is for our house in Guatemala where we live most of the year, so I won't get getting service regardless if it is an online or brick and mortar purchase. So, boiling down to best cleaner and reliability.
Hello, I ended up purchasing the M400 through Pelican. I like the active brush underneath in the center (sigma doesn’t have), and Pelican felt it would be easier to service than the M600. Thank you!
It depends on what kinds of debris you end up with in your pool. The pre-installed filters tend to let the really fine particles through I noticed, but catch all the larger items. We tend to get a lot of really fine sand and silt blown into our pool so I put the other set that comes with this unit into it and it is just much more fine and catches all the smaller items. Thanks for the comment. 🌊
They are very similar robots, the Sigma advantages over the Premier is that it comes with the Gyroscope (not included on the Premier), cleans in 2 hours (instead of 3), has 3 commercial grade motors (instead of 2), and appears to be a slightly newer build from the research I've done. However, the Premier does offer the "filter is full" notification feature that is missing on the Sigma, and a remote (don't have to mess with a quirky phone app). Also the Premier filters are larger and holds more before having to clean so if you have a lot of trees or leaves, that may be a better option. Hope this helps.
The top of the Sigma needs to be submerged in order for the robot vacuum to operate, my pools top step gets cleaned, but the tanning ledge is just too shallow so the unit senses the shallow water and goes back to the deeper area. Thanks for the comment!
Hello and great question, so the Sigma does a really good job at picking up almost everything that sinks to the bottom, but the leaves that I get are smaller, like 1-2 inches in diameter, and I also get blossoms and lots of sand that it picks up. I have not tested it on really large leaves.
Thanks so much for this helpful video. You mentioned that it doesn't get hung up in the main drain, just wondering if u experienced any hung up on the main drain since? It seems that this is one of the major complain in its product reviews . Thx in advance.
Thanks for the comment, and no, I have not had the Dolphin get hung up on any drains in the pool at all, the one place I've had it get stuck for about five minutes was on the shelf by the slide where it curves but then it was able to free itself. My drains stick up about 1/2 inch and they haven't been an issue.
Good eye, yes I had to re-watch the video and if you are talking when the robot transits from the floor to the wall you can see particles coming out of it. 2 things, at this point I should have stopped it because those filters were really filled up, and I didn't know better but had the "standard" filters in if you look at the video. So all the fine sand was blowing right through the mesh. This bot comes with actual "sand filters" and I used the ones they had in it instead of the sand ones. Now I use the sand filters and pour out a 1/4 pound of mud with each sweep. Thank you for the comment!
so what are the odds of this device ever cleaning the entire waterline in a week's time (or any time interval)? Seems to be a pretty random process of touching bits of the waterline over extended periods.
That's a great question. According to the manufacturer the Sigma maps out a pattern and follows it, but from what I've seen in my own pool, the robot comes up randomly to the waterline, brushes, scoots a few inches to the right or left and then drops down after cleaning about a 1 1/2 to 2 foot area. Then it will pop up again on the opposite side of the pool after a moment. The Sigma does take several runs to scrub the entire waterline of a pool, it won't get all of it in one cycle. Do I still brush the waterline manually when I brush the rest of the pool? Most definitely! But this bot does help keep it cleaner between. Thanks for the comment!
Anyone figure out what the “handles should be adjusted and locked diagonally” mean? Each image shows it locked in a different forward, middle, and aft position on different sides, and it rotates freely, so no idea what they mean…
Apparently the more "cocked diagonally" the handle is on the Dolphin, then the more quickly & efficiently the robot cleans along the waterline from what I've read. This would be a great thing to do more research on and a new video on maybe. Great question, let me know if anyone else knows more about this or has experience with it. I'm going to have to try it out now and see what works and what doesn't.
Don't the three notches that you can choose from to lock your handle into tell you how far above the water line you need for it to clean for you. Like we don't want it to go far above the water line, so we positioned the handle in the first notch. That is the only thing we could figure out what it meant by handle locked in horizontal.
