I love the little bit of blue and green that comes through in the shadows!

I am a lover of painting but not a painter, I was glued to watch you paint and seen what made a masterful painting. Absolutely breathtaking. And beautiful.

You asked about our self criticism…happily, I have found ..especially as I have matured…that even if I feel something is awful, usually when I look at it later..a week, a month.. a year…it’s not that bad, and sometimes even good! Your work is absolutely inspiring, 🙂🌺⭐🙏🏼❤

I learned so much from this video! Love how those neutrals contrasted the saturated layers put on top. I also find that during a painting session one loosses, all sense of being objective about your own work, my mind goes from being happy and positive about my piece, to hating it and eventually ruining it while I try to "fix" it. When look at photos later I discover it wasn't so bad, it was just my mindset.

🙏for sharing - I love the alla prima technique - and it is a great way of learning to old masters as this - it is really a very fine way to learn to become aware of fine details and nuances of chroma and values 🌺🌸♥️

Many thanks.. I learned a lot of things from this... especially the greys in the underpainting and the black in the shadows first, followed by the colours and the highlights. Plus doing the eyes in detail first, which is the opposite of the way I paint... I want to try that, as my paintings often lack tonal values and lack contrast when the paint dries... thanks again...

This is an interesting video. I would never start like this but….everyone has their own way to paint. The end result is what matters.
On further investigation we could learn how learn how Rubens created his work. But again this is a study and ala prima.
P.s.I need a small brush for applying the highlight. Nice.
Obviously, this artist is a talented man. My copy/ studies always show my hand. I don’t get it right every time.

Are you sure that Rubens began with eyes? My opinion - it is wrong technique. All picture was made by small brush from small detail to big form. It's should be vice versa.

I had to look up the original painting that he is studying, but the girl has asymmetrical features even in the original.
