  • For the 5th year in a row Philip Cobb, principal trumpet with London Symphony Orchestra, was soloist with Ensemble Hovaldt at the annual Christmas Concert in the main Cathedral in Copenhagen on the 13th of December 2015
    On stage this afternoon: Philip Cobb London Symphony Orchestra, Nikolaj Viltoft The Royal Danish Orchestra, Felix Wilde Staatskapelle Berlin, Tom Watson, Susanne Skov, Jesper Busk Sörensen Berliner Philharmonikerne, Mark Templeton Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Peter Lundorf, Martin Reinhardt Copenhagen Phil and Janus Mogensen Prinsens Musikkorps

    I'm realizing that what a great trumpet player Sergei Nakariakov. This performance is very good too but there is deep something more what Nakariakov played this song. Maybe it is most beautiful performance of this song in the all time in music history. Like in heaven

      Nakariakov plays it with the flugerlhorn and that may affect

    Sounds too “cornetish”. (I know that’s not a word.)

      Owing to Phillip's early life as a British Brass Band cornet prodigy. He can just as easily drop the vibrato that often defines that style, and if he did, the modern trumpet/orchestral style he so excellently lends to the LSO would beautifully shine.
      That said, I wondered why he chose to play this on trumpet in the first place, but I suppose he did because the ensemble uses trumpets vs cornets.
