Thank you! Great video and very insightful for me. Definitely helped me in better understanding what I was reading in the manual, and made using the H4N much easier. I'm not sure I would have understood the manual as well if you had not provided this video. If you get the chance, I'd like to see more about 4 channel recording. I play both electric and acoustic guitar, so any additional functionality, information or details related to recording music would be very helpful. Thanks again!
I am trying the 4 track recording like you did in the video, but I don't have an external speaker. I assumed the recording would play through the speaker on the back of the H4N. I record track one, and then want to listen to it before recording the 2nd track but I'm not getting any sound. It's like my recording didn't work. I got it to playback through the ext. speaker the back when I was just recording normal conversation using the built in mics. I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. Any ideas?
This internal speaker it worthless. I am using stereo mini Jack Phones Output thu very simple mixer and than studio monitor. The simplest solutiin is headohones
@@BBWalkerTV Okay, thank you. I'll give it a try. I was getting no sound on playback, so hoping it's not an issue other than just connecting the headphones. I don't have a mixer/studio monitor, so maybe headphones is the best option for now. I'll let you know how it goes..
Ok, there are some details to figure out - great vid. In MTR mode, the lit channel number switches just show what channels to RECORD from? In playback it plays all channels? I am trying to record on channels at once Can you adjust the record levels independently - it looks like you adjust the playback gain - but can you equalize signals during RECORD?
FIrst part of question - yes red led over channel number indicates which is enabled for recording. Remember that in MTR you can record only a few configuration - 1 channel per track or , 2 channel from internal mic and input 1 or 2 - it is great to multi track recording - track by track. If you want full / all 4ch recording in parallel you schuld switch to 4ch Second part: Yes during playback always all channels play every time, you can adjust gain of playback to mute some of them if you need Thid part questions: Yes you can set the input level during record - just press channel selector hold, and volume up/down
Thanks for the video. My issue is that when I record my acoustic and play fingerpicking the bass is off the charts. Either I try it as an interface and a daw or just record to the memory card and my bass strings are very loud. The only way I can get it decent is too have the zoom input on 100 and then have the volume knob on my acoustic just barely on. The issue with that is there is no waveform to work with at all. And I don't use a thumbpick when when playing fingerstyle. The recordings i have made with a flatpick or perfectly fine though.
Yes it is possible a little bit tricky and requires to create another project and move files between them and make downmix however I will try to show it in the next video
O'key very nice.. My question now is if i can mix [-by using only the XLR Combo jack-] the 3 channels into the 4rth channel and after to ride again other instruments in to the 3 channels hu i used before to become so 6 instruments by my recording for a song. Is that possible by using only the H4n Pro? I mean without using music programs on a computer or anything else? Thank you anyway my friend.
When you multitrack can you monitor what you've already recorded so you're playing in time or is there a flashing light or something to keep your timing please. Thank you Heath
Hi, thanks for the vídeo. Can You record from de integrated mic and from the xlr conection in mono or stereo mixed in one track? I want to record a interview witch 3 people and 2 are going to use the integrated mic and the other one a xlr dinamic mic. It is possible? Thanks
I've wondered how to do this for a while, no one seems to be covering this, you show it in really simple steps, showing cable routing etc, I've read the manual, it's great to have an in depth physical manual for reference but it doesn't explain it as simply as you, do more on the possibilities of this this "crazy little bastard". Thank you once again. P.S. I've bought the Zoom "dead cat2 windsheild and tried using low cut and or compresser and the sound from the built in mics is poor compared to TH-camrs instructional vids, I've set the gain correctly but it picks up a fair bit of noise, any ideas?
+Punk Dub Hifi well. The overall quality depends on many things like the environment, good acoustic with no echoing surroundings, the distance form mic to the source and overall background noise. Try record inside a car, with no engine running and talk directly to mics, 5-10 inch Max and compare results.
First time viewer, and now a subscriber! I would like to see a presentation on the 4CH usage also, which is how I am going to get into using the unit, which I just got about a week ago. Hey, nice video! Can you record two simultaneos inputs (ext) in multitrack mode using different built in effects in each one? Example: Input 1 = Vocal = Reverb FX / Input 2 = Guitar = Fender Amplifier?
Thanks a lot. Unfortunately there is no such option available. it is by limited computation power of the device. Only one effect could be applied by the time
Create new each time you want to create something new (I switch each time I create new song) and save old work for future editing . You can also work on the same project all the time, depending on the REC MODE value you can 'Overwrite' or 'Always new' - preserve old tracks) But the general idea of project - you can always go back to it and add/re record some of the Multi track , if you are on the same all the time - you won't have such advantage. If you are confused - I can create another video about project management and REC MODE types - pros and cons The basic disadvantage of new project : you need to setup levels again - they are retested to default values.
@@BBWalkerTV Thanks for a great response! I am not a musician, mainly videos. @@laurencegrant2882 In this case - recording in one time - two separate sources - you should use 4CH - 2 channels will be empty but it doesn't matter. MTR could be also used for your purpose (2 track at same time) but if you are not planning to add more tracks (like second voice line or bass in songs) you don't need to use MTR. 4CH is faster to start and easier to use and it will produce 2 stereo files with will be easy to split into mono tracks in post-productions.
