@@jmuntSupervising a student driver is exactly what I was mentally comparing it to this morning. More stressful than just driving, by far. I'll see if I get 12.3.3 before the free month ends. (I have a previous minor release.). But the lane indecision, failing to move to the correct lane in time for a turn, very bad lane centering (which it shows on the screen too), constant failure to keep right on a residential road, some balks at nothing, failure to slow for deer, excessive hesitancy at empty intersections (not just a pause, but just sitting there for a long time), slowing way too late for a red light on a downslope in winter... I lost count of the disengagements in only a few days.
AutoPark works ok mostly, except at the cafe which has concrete barriers in the stalls a few feet out from the curb, to keep people from parking too close to the eating area. AutoPark ignores those. So, one feature that's almost as easy as doing it myself, mostly.

12:16 following lead car (dark grey) 12:22 lead car clears intersection and parks FSD flashes dark (lead) to mid grey (attention) a couple of times 12:23 momentary uncertainty as to if previously lead car / car it's paying attention to (mid grey) is stationary or not (light grey) 12:24 tentacle was dark blue, about to commit. 12:25 open door of the previously lead car, and car it's paying attention to and just decided was stationary causes it to hold before the intersection as it can't clear the interaction and crosswalk 12:29 door closes on that car, the driver of that car now a pedestrian is clear of road 12:30 commits to driving through the intersection and clearing the crosswalk
Being generous as to interpreting why... it anticipated the driver getting out the car and it getting stuck in the intersection or on the crosswalk, so didn't commit to entering the intersection as the exit wasn't clear.
Being less generous... the lead car was mistaken to be in traffic rather than parking and the indecisiveness of lead car / attention / stationary parked was unnecessarily long.

I took FSD 12 on it's first drive last night after having V11 for 6 months, and WOW it really made a difference where it matters. Still had 10-15% of the time being super unconfident, but everything else was just so smooth. In my own 80km 2h city multi-waypoint test, I only had to disengage once for construction lines that I wouldn't have figured out if I were driving. Can't wait for what the future holds.

@Dirty - I’ve been following your FSD content for quite some time now, and I love your videos and candor. On Monday, I received the 12.3.3 update, and I have two gripes. I’ve watched many of your YT videos and also observed others showcasing 12.3.3 to see if they experience the same gripes, which I haven’t.
Here are my main two gripes.
    1) Very Aggressive Braking: The regen bar goes full and continues full left with a gray braking indication. The car slows down well before the stop line and then creeps forward slowly. This behavior occurs at stop signs and when approaching stopped vehicles at red lights.
    2) Stuttering Lane Changes: During lane changes, the car starts moving over to complete the maneuver. However, just as the tires would reach the lane line, the car momentarily stops moving over, goes straight, and then finally completes the lane change. This issue occurs over 75% of the time. It seems that both of these points are regressions from the previous version.
Have you experienced these issues with 12.3.3 as well? I did see some recommendations on other social platforms suggest to calibrate the cameras, but I would assume if that was needed, Tesla would mention something.
Love your content and thank you for continuing to showcase your passion for FSD and Tesla.

I've been experiancing the studdering lane changes starting on 11.4.9 but only when there's a car not to far back in the lane I'm changing into. This is a dead giveaway to others a robot is driving the car. The more human like behavior is to slowly start a lane change and don't commit until the adjenct car backs off. I hope they smooth out this robot like signaling behavior to others in future releases.

  • @MyEthan1998
    @MyEthan1998 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Love your videos. I've found a few scenarios that don't work out that well for v12. Most of the problems I've observed are in DC because the road designs here are just so much more complicated depending on the area.
First, difficult intersections where you have to be more assertive, like cutting through 4 lanes to get to a nearby intersection.
Second is when there's tons of traffic. It does tend to get into the correct lane a little too late for my taste - I'd rather wait at the back of the line but FSD likes to cut queues, though it does it pretty well 😬
But overall... Man I've never been so excited to drive my red Tessie. This makes life so much better. Now they gotta improve smart summon, add reversing to FSD and add reverse smart summon (you leave the car, it looks for a spot.)

It’s funny, FSD V12 on my 2022 Model 3 appears much smoother and more confident than what I’m seeing on your video. I’m also putting the car through what I consider extremely difficult conditions with much more traffic (downtown Montreal).
My biggest gripe is when transitioning from city driving to highway. Often in a large city it isn’t clear when this happens and then I find myself adjusting the speed settings.

My only complaint is that it stops WAY too early for stop signs. So early that I can’t even see oncoming traffic because there’s a tree/bush/etc in the way. Pull all the way up to the road at a stop sign. Especially on back roads where you’re turning from a neighborhood onto a 50mph road. I need to see the oncoming traffic. It does creep forward and check but the whole process is really slow and if anyone was behind me they’d be frustrated. It also needs to anticipate your next direction because if there’s a two lane left hand turn and you need to go right after that, it still hops in the left-left turn lane.

NYC pedestrians are not very respectful of "Don't Walk" signs and e-bike food deliveries come up fast on the left side constantly. No problem. It was totally human-like, signaling it's intentions with creeping turns. I'm blown away. What it doesn't do, is make the best lane choices entering an exiting the toll plazas, bridges and tunnels. Went for about 15 mile drive which included highway and town and it almost made it. When I got into town even though the route
was straight on it got in the turning lane (,5 miles short of actual turn) and it really was the turning lane only . Had some trouble with it slowing down in the middle of turns.
Also it tends to creep out and turn slowly from a stop then floor it , where I woulds make a smooth acceleration turn. It seemed to have trouble with one of those 270 degree highway entrances jumping out of self driving once and coming to a total stop at the merge point another time . Sometimes it goes extra slow on a street and I don't know why .

FYI: you can press the accelerator to boost FSD’s confidence. It acts like a prod to get the car to go through intersections faster if you can see what it will do will be safe. Usually it goes slow because the camera layout is imperfect and the car needs time to creep. Just boost it w the accelerator and you’re good.

    • @kafiluz4317
      @kafiluz4317 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

I think it's ok that test drivers don't accelerate all the time. So you can see, if FSD would make it or not (sometimes it would just stop and not move anymore). By the way the camera layout is just fine. Zoom out the rendering and you will see that it's detecting all the cars 360 degrees from pretty far away, but it doesn't always act as it should due to lack of training.

Thanks for your great videos. V12.3.3 is doing great. In suburbia almost every drive is zero disengagement and usually zero interventions. Too timid at moving thru Stop signs is my biggest complaint. Sped control has improved but still needs refinement.

So at empty intersections, there are no markers for the AI to make an assertive or defined decision, so it double checks to make sure there is nothing it has missed. This actually seems more of a preventative measure to prevent overconfidence which would more likely result in accidents.

12:23 I believe it was likely waiting for the guy to get out of the car across the intersection. Usually we would wait closer or just go round but I imagine the car didn't want to go around because of the lane markings in the middle of the road

I enjoyed seeing 12.3.3 in moderate downtown traffic with pedestrians. I’ve had FSD 12.3.3 for 3 days now and I’ve had several interventions, but never getting stuck at a curb 😂. I’ve experienced the indecisive lane selection, and attempting to change lanes in an intersection has also occurred. The speed control is not how I drive, a little fast starting up, and stops a little sooner prior to Stop signs. But, neither is terrible, just different. What I dislike is on the freeway, following trucks too closely, too long. It’s a bad place to be because truck drivers can’t see you, and trucks kick up small rocks and road debris. And, one time a freeway lane change changed into a space immediately beside a truck, which I personally do not do. Still, overall the rides have been very good. I’m still too new at FSD to attempt activating it on a freeway at rush hour. Maybe, I’ll get there sometime in the next few weeks. Thanks for all your great FSD videos.

jajaj this reminds me.. long ago in a parking lot at Blockbuster (yes, the old vhs movie rental place) the parking lot was so small that cars went stuck like a very tricky puzzle almost every time ..
One time, I had to get out of the car and politely ask "the blocking car" to move so we all could escape back out of there
there are unforeseen situations that not even humans (or specially humans) can't figure out how to deal with.. so many opinions in such a small place can create unbelievable scenarios more often than not...
A few days back someone said it would be a good idea to build city roads more FSD friendly (driving humans could probably benefit from such and idea as well)

When I recently passed my motorcycle driving licence in Canada I was told that I must remain behind the stop line at a left green light turn until I'm 100% I can pass, if there is traffic and the light turns yellow I will have to wait (you can stay here forever!). Going in the middle of the intersection is something everyone does and of course you will not stay there if the light turns red but that's something against the law in Canada (but again, nobody respects that, and it's ok).

Went on my first longer distance drive on 12.3.3 this morning, and was really looking forward to it due to all the rave reviews. My conclusion was it was the worst performing update I have ever experienced. I drove from the Palm Springs area over the high mountains to Temecula Wine Country. Immediately after getting into the mountains the car insisted on putting the left side tires on the Bott’s Dots inside the double yellow lines. On some turns the tires were directly on the center of the double yellow lines. On a few of the simple turns the left side tires were completely on the wrong side of the yellow lines. I immediately had to take over the driving, and put the car on the correct side of the road, since there were cars descending on the other side. In my brief panic I failed the report the incident in time. I drove the rest of the drive myself. The return trip hours later was only slightly better…wheels on the lines especially on the turns. I’ve done this drive with every update in the last couple of years and 12.3.3 easily was the worst. Scared the hell out of my wife who is also in the FSD program with her car!

When you say “I don’t think that my Tesla will be L5 by December 31st 2024” (I’m paraphrasing) I think you should distinguish between whether you think FSD will be technically capable of L5 vs whether you think that the legal hurdles won’t have been cleared by then.

    My 12.3.3 first drive impressions.
    - It actually slowed way down (appropriately) for a water filled pothole where my dirt road transitions to a paved section. That’s the first time FSD has ever done that. 👍
    - This version seems to make right hand turns a little too early and as a result places the right rear wheel unnecessarily close to the curb. I disengaged once just so I could report it even though the wheel would have just barely cleared the curb. 👎
    - I had to disengage once going into a commercial shopping center parking lot where the car has to snake through a tight entrance and then turn right at a T intersection to follow the correct route as indicated on the navigation screen. Instead it became undecided about which way to turn and slowly eased forward directly toward the curb while twitching the steering wheel. I disengaged about 4’ from the curb and had to turn full lock the right to make the correct turn, just barely clearing the curb with my LF tire. I’m not sure if it would have driven into the curb if Inhadnt disengaged. Probably not but it would have been stuck there because it would have needed to back up to get out of that situation. And it doesn’t yet have the ability to do that. 👎
    - I was able to engage FSD in my driveway for the first time. The driveway goes uphill fairly steeply to a T into the street. There are fullly mature evergreens on both sides of the end of the driveway that interfere with visibility. FSD handled the transition to the city street perfectly! 👍
Leaving a parking lot making an unprotected left turn onto a 4-lane city street the exit road widens into a painted arrow marked left and right turn lane. FSD couldn’t make up its mind to use the left turn lane and instead stopped in the center of the widened roadway, half in each turn lane. 👎 Since there was no one behind me I let FSD proceed and it had no trouble with the unprotected left even though there was moderate cross traffic in both lanes.👍
It was raining lightly and FSD claimed to be operating in Degraded mode. I’ve seen that message before over the years of testing but never noticed what was degraded.

12:30: I believe FSD waited because the car parked in front of you (near the sidewalk) had opened its doors and was obstructing the road.
So it instead waited a little longer (which also made sure the pedestrians were going forward and not near its road), and once the driver (now a pedestrian) was behind his car, the Tesla went for it.

If your mind is getting blown by this still not ready for prime time (FSD) version just wait until you are not home but your car is, you summon your car remotely (likely at a pre scheduled time) and your car then opens the garage door, exits the garage, closes the door again, then drives autonomously to your location to pick you up! Who knows when that day will come but it is coming. 🙂

I personally think if Tesla owns all of the robotaxis, it could roll out this year.

The slowing down in the uni area could be what I was finding while training v12, I think it miss interprets tree shadows for either a dip in the road or speed bump and slows for it.
I found it used to change lanes to avoid the shadows.

I drove with FSD for the first time yesterday and again on the way to work this morning. It only tried to break the law once (by turning on a red arrow). It totally doesn't mind driving in another car's blind spot and ploughs right through potholes rather than avoiding them like I would. It's neat, just not very useful.

Chris, I have been using FSD Supervised 3 days now, a couple of observations.
First day on a dirt road, it does not recognize pot holes.
It has shown difficulty with speed, has glitched/hesitated when matching a change in posted speed, needs coaxing.
Seems to react slower/later for stops than I would like.
I do like it though. $12k too much for as little as I would realistically use it. May consider use on a road trip.

I find FSD Supervised CLOSE to human driving.
Got the free trial two days ago and got 4 strikes first day, lol. Only got strikes when I was trtrying to vid or using UI for FSD.
Had car get in wrong lane for a turn twice. It turned right onto the shoulder once thinking it was a lane.
Twice in the same spot on multi lane highway, going same direction, on two different days I got a "system error" where it disengage immediately and would not re engage for about a mile at same spot as before.
Othervthan those instances it's been very good.

It’s funny watching you testers , everyone of you has a difference driving style and understandably you think you’re driving style is how you want the car to drive.
What do you say that you wouldn’t slowdown that much for speed hump after watching videos yesterday if somebody saying, they would slow down more for a speed, hump demonstrates perfectly .
They’re gonna have to set the Tesla to drive the safest and most efficient way it can, and then every driver is just going to have to get used to it and suck it up .

At one point my Model 3 actually thump-thump-thumped on the reflectors on the right side it got so far to the right. It's not really uncomfortable most of the time but not how I typically drive. But maybe a lot of people drive toward the right side of the lane so 12.3.3 picked up on that human behavior?

The self-driving profile setting (chill, average, assertive) and the manual speed set has no effect in FSD v12.
