I’m selling my 22 Model 3 to my 84 year old dad (I’m leaving the country for a year). We’ve been cruising all around on 12.3. We’re both blown away. @@jmuntSupervising a student driver is exactly what I was mentally comparing it to this morning. More stressful than just driving, by far. I'll see if I get 12.3.3 before the free month ends. (I have a previous minor release.). But the lane indecision, failing to move to the correct lane in time for a turn, very bad lane centering (which it shows on the screen too), constant failure to keep right on a residential road, some balks at nothing, failure to slow for deer, excessive hesitancy at empty intersections (not just a pause, but just sitting there for a long time), slowing way too late for a red light on a downslope in winter... I lost count of the disengagements in only a few days.
AutoPark works ok mostly, except at the cafe which has concrete barriers in the stalls a few feet out from the curb, to keep people from parking too close to the eating area. AutoPark ignores those. So, one feature that's almost as easy as doing it myself, mostly.

12:16 following lead car (dark grey) 12:22 lead car clears intersection and parks FSD flashes dark (lead) to mid grey (attention) a couple of times 12:23 momentary uncertainty as to if previously lead car / car it's paying attention to (mid grey) is stationary or not (light grey) 12:24 tentacle was dark blue, about to commit. 12:25 open door of the previously lead car, and car it's paying attention to and just decided was stationary causes it to hold before the intersection as it can't clear the interaction and crosswalk 12:29 door closes on that car, the driver of that car now a pedestrian is clear of road 12:30 commits to driving through the intersection and clearing the crosswalk
Being generous as to interpreting why... it anticipated the driver getting out the car and it getting stuck in the intersection or on the crosswalk, so didn't commit to entering the intersection as the exit wasn't clear.
Being less generous... the lead car was mistaken to be in traffic rather than parking and the indecisiveness of lead car / attention / stationary parked was unnecessarily long.

12.3.3 is way overly-cautious on my empty neighborhood road. I think you are right, the system does better with traffic to give it context. One possibility is that Tesla, for an early release being shotgunned out as free to thousands of new FSD drivers, turned up the cautiousness weighting really high. I understand the need to mitigate risk, and expect that weighting will be dialed down soon enough.

I'm going to revisit my usual test loop today. 12.3 actually did very poorly on the loop, but I've noticed many of the issues I had there were no longer present in my drive with 12.3.3 yesterday. Will probably do a video where I directly compare the behaviors since I hadn't edited that video yet.
Your sentiment of "Ugh this is awesome" when the car accounted for the lead car's mistake at around 17:00 is exactly how I feel about 12.3.3 - the speed feels much more natural to me too. The beginning of the video where you're on the campus, I'd be pressing the accelerator to about speed limit, but on my local campus, it actually speeds WAY too much so I had to disengage.

16:26 was impressive with the pedestrian. The getting in the wrong lane and stopping before the curb at 21:50 might be a good example of why it is "supervised". The car made a wrong move, doesn't do anything dangerous but just stops and is basically saying to you (the supervisor), hey... I need help with this. I see nothing wrong with that.

I can't wait until FSD is allowed to reverse. I'm assuming maybe it isn't active because of safety concerns, but it might also have to do with the fact that maybe it would need more rear cameras, possibly higher up as well.

Thanks Chris for your honest reviews. There is the good and the bad. Today I had a bad. My Y V13.3.3 made a left turn at an intersection with traffic lights. It did really well at waiting for oncoming traffic. Once it was clear it proceeded, accelerating quite fast. It clipped the curb of the dividing island while doing the left turn. It felt like a good left turn, then it clipped the dividing island on the driver’s side. It happened so fast, that I could not intervene. It may not be beta now, but supervisor must be alert and willing to accept that the car might do the worst thing at the worst time.

Although generally amazing it still has some glitches and is not always smooth. It slowed for speed bumps and I found that amazing.
Went for about 15 mile drive which included highway and town and it almost made it. When I got into town even though the route
was straight on it got in the turning lane (,5 miles short of actual turn) and it really was the turning lane only . Had some trouble with it slowing down in the middle of turns.
Also it tends to creep out and turn slowly from a stop then floor it , where I woulds make a smooth acceleration turn. It seemed to have trouble with one of those 270 degree highway entrances jumping out of self driving once and coming to a total stop at the merge point another time . Sometimes it goes extra slow on a street and I don't know why .

@Dirty - I’ve been following your FSD content for quite some time now, and I love your videos and candor. On Monday, I received the 12.3.3 update, and I have two gripes. I’ve watched many of your YT videos and also observed others showcasing 12.3.3 to see if they experience the same gripes, which I haven’t.
Here are my main two gripes.
    1) Very Aggressive Braking: The regen bar goes full and continues full left with a gray braking indication. The car slows down well before the stop line and then creeps forward slowly. This behavior occurs at stop signs and when approaching stopped vehicles at red lights.
    2) Stuttering Lane Changes: During lane changes, the car starts moving over to complete the maneuver. However, just as the tires would reach the lane line, the car momentarily stops moving over, goes straight, and then finally completes the lane change. This issue occurs over 75% of the time. It seems that both of these points are regressions from the previous version.
Have you experienced these issues with 12.3.3 as well? I did see some recommendations on other social platforms suggest to calibrate the cameras, but I would assume if that was needed, Tesla would mention something.
Love your content and thank you for continuing to showcase your passion for FSD and Tesla.

I've been experiancing the studdering lane changes starting on 11.4.9 but only when there's a car not to far back in the lane I'm changing into. This is a dead giveaway to others a robot is driving the car. The more human like behavior is to slowly start a lane change and don't commit until the adjenct car backs off. I hope they smooth out this robot like signaling behavior to others in future releases.

It’s funny, FSD V12 on my 2022 Model 3 appears much smoother and more confident than what I’m seeing on your video. I’m also putting the car through what I consider extremely difficult conditions with much more traffic (downtown Montreal).
My biggest gripe is when transitioning from city driving to highway. Often in a large city it isn’t clear when this happens and then I find myself adjusting the speed settings.

  • @MyEthan1998
    @MyEthan1998 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Love your videos. I've found a few scenarios that don't work out that well for v12. Most of the problems I've observed are in DC because the road designs here are just so much more complicated depending on the area.
First, difficult intersections where you have to be more assertive, like cutting through 4 lanes to get to a nearby intersection.
Second is when there's tons of traffic. It does tend to get into the correct lane a little too late for my taste - I'd rather wait at the back of the line but FSD likes to cut queues, though it does it pretty well 😬
But overall... Man I've never been so excited to drive my red Tessie. This makes life so much better. Now they gotta improve smart summon, add reversing to FSD and add reverse smart summon (you leave the car, it looks for a spot.)

My only complaint is that it stops WAY too early for stop signs. So early that I can’t even see oncoming traffic because there’s a tree/bush/etc in the way. Pull all the way up to the road at a stop sign. Especially on back roads where you’re turning from a neighborhood onto a 50mph road. I need to see the oncoming traffic. It does creep forward and check but the whole process is really slow and if anyone was behind me they’d be frustrated. It also needs to anticipate your next direction because if there’s a two lane left hand turn and you need to go right after that, it still hops in the left-left turn lane.

The slowing down in the uni area could be what I was finding while training v12, I think it miss interprets tree shadows for either a dip in the road or speed bump and slows for it.
I found it used to change lanes to avoid the shadows.

The pedestrians gait identified that she was not attempting to move as she stepped back slightly after checking the road way. Once she stood there and didn't walk forward the car sees that she is stationary/not attempting to intersect with path and continues.
It might also acknowledge hand signals and such but I'm not sure

Chris, I have been using FSD Supervised 3 days now, a couple of observations.
First day on a dirt road, it does not recognize pot holes.
It has shown difficulty with speed, has glitched/hesitated when matching a change in posted speed, needs coaxing.
Seems to react slower/later for stops than I would like.
I do like it though. $12k too much for as little as I would realistically use it. May consider use on a road trip.

22:10 I have FSD 12.3 and about half the time it doesn't recognize medians in turning lanes. It will turn into a right turning lane early and not see that before the actual turn there is a median in the turning lane that requires us to turn early. I never let it go to see what it does because it's speeding towards the median. However, the other half of the time, at the same exact spots, it will realize there is a median and either not get in the turn lane or get back in the correct lane. I can't decide if this is a hardware or software problem. I'm leaning toward hardware is having trouble recognizing the median.

    My 12.3.3 first drive impressions.
    - It actually slowed way down (appropriately) for a water filled pothole where my dirt road transitions to a paved section. That’s the first time FSD has ever done that. 👍
    - This version seems to make right hand turns a little too early and as a result places the right rear wheel unnecessarily close to the curb. I disengaged once just so I could report it even though the wheel would have just barely cleared the curb. 👎
    - I had to disengage once going into a commercial shopping center parking lot where the car has to snake through a tight entrance and then turn right at a T intersection to follow the correct route as indicated on the navigation screen. Instead it became undecided about which way to turn and slowly eased forward directly toward the curb while twitching the steering wheel. I disengaged about 4’ from the curb and had to turn full lock the right to make the correct turn, just barely clearing the curb with my LF tire. I’m not sure if it would have driven into the curb if Inhadnt disengaged. Probably not but it would have been stuck there because it would have needed to back up to get out of that situation. And it doesn’t yet have the ability to do that. 👎
    - I was able to engage FSD in my driveway for the first time. The driveway goes uphill fairly steeply to a T into the street. There are fullly mature evergreens on both sides of the end of the driveway that interfere with visibility. FSD handled the transition to the city street perfectly! 👍
Leaving a parking lot making an unprotected left turn onto a 4-lane city street the exit road widens into a painted arrow marked left and right turn lane. FSD couldn’t make up its mind to use the left turn lane and instead stopped in the center of the widened roadway, half in each turn lane. 👎 Since there was no one behind me I let FSD proceed and it had no trouble with the unprotected left even though there was moderate cross traffic in both lanes.👍
It was raining lightly and FSD claimed to be operating in Degraded mode. I’ve seen that message before over the years of testing but never noticed what was degraded.

FSD 11 would curl up in a ball and cry in Manhattan. I took my HW4 MS through Chelsea yesterday and it was crazy good. NYC pedestrians are not very respectful of "Don't Walk" signs and e-bike food deliveries come up fast on the left side constantly. No problem. It was totally human-like, signaling it's intentions with creeping turns. I'm blown away. What it doesn't do, is make the best lane choices entering an exiting the toll plazas, bridges and tunnels. Not a big deal.

Hi Chris, just got 12.3.3 yesterday. Unfortunately, it keeps injecting 20 and 40 mph zones (shown on display as speed limit signs) on a 55 mph rural road near intersections. This happened on Rt 28 east of Concord, NH. Not sure if it's bad navigation database data, but it was frustrating. On the good side, V12.3 performed the best rotary transits I have had so far on FSD, and was great on urban Hartford CT roads this past weekend. Anyone else seeing this on New England rural roads?

    • @chengcao418
      @chengcao418 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

Bad map data probably, or it recognized wrong signs. I usually just keep my foot near the accelerator, just some gentle accelerator press to keep the speed up for a few seconds and FSD should be able to take that as a hint to keep a higher speed for a longer while

Chris, regarding your comments about V12.3.3 “Auto” limit speed behavior… In the Phoenix area we have a lot of 45 mph multi-lane roads, which everybody drives at about 55 mph. I have noticed that my car will only go about 45 mph (after a stoplight etc.), but if I press the throttle to get up to 55 mph, and if traffic around me is about the same 55 mph, I can let off and the car will then maintain 55 mph itself within traffic. But, I always seem to have to “encourage” the car up to 55 mph, then it seems to “get comfortable” with the speed.

I like it doing so since so many drivers in my area don't yield to them. Thanks for your commentary and channel.

I just noticed that with the auto-speed set... if the car has decided to go below what it considers max... and I press the accelerator and speed up a bit... that new speed will "stick" (as long as it is below what is considered max). This seems to replace adjusting the speed using the scroll button. I have not found a way to get it to slow down tho.

You mentioned something I never thought of, every time you or I use FSD we are “backseat driving” because it’s required. On rides I’ve been tired or more in deep thought just supervising the car less critically I have noticed I don’t really see a ton of annoyance with the system.

Every time the car phantom brakes around the 5,5 minute mark, it's because of the cyclist lane marking on the road. The stop line on screen seems to track with the position of the marking on the read. You can also see the marking appear on the screen from underneath the car when it accelerates again.

This is crazy! I got this FSD S v12.3.3 yesterday! it is 75% Improvement, there are still some bugs like v11 mistake, like lane management, but one thing I want to point out, is I don't know if it's the car hardware (2018 m3) or the region I am in Toronto Canada. I don't have auto-park and also my m3 does not finish the route, meaning; if I set the nav to go home, it never end there, it stop one house before my house and it does not park it self like I see it in your video in the parking lot and it find it's way to park. At my house never goes to the drive way are you experiencing the same? with this version?

Very interesting video, still trying to understand/determine if it would be something I would like to have. As I get older and remember back to my elders as they continued to drive as they aged I find myself pondering if FSD might be something that could observe my driving and intervene if it catches me making a misstep. I still enjoy driving myself and am in no hurry to stop practicing my ability to drive. When your driving a Tesla will it intervene or is that not a mode that is available. Would be curious to see if while you were driving it will alert you and attempt corrective action if you were to intentionally do something incorrectly.

The disengagement turning right from North U to Church is a little surprising, because it had that curb bump-out displayed properly, and didn't hit the curb, it just didn't think to go around it. I feel like the simplest videogame path-finding algorithm could have told it to go around, but FSD may not have a pathfinding algorithm for detailed driving decisions with v12's end-to-end neural net, which replaced a lot of traditionally coded algorithms. A simple solution might be to reclassify that lane on their map...it's just to pull over and pick up/drop off passengers at the main Central Campus bus stop there.

I have 12.3.3 also. I wish they would allow the right wheel to tell auto-speed to "go a little slower" or "go a little faster." It sometimes waits too late to get in the needed lane before turning, and it sometime hesitates when it should just go... but overall, I think it is fairly amazing. I'm on the free trial, so I've never driven on any prior versions. I can't see paying $200/mo for it though. If it was $100/mo, I would definitely get it... along with a million other Tesla owners (Elon, are you listening?). What's that? An extra $100 million a month for Tesla's bank account?

v12.3.3 is awesome, but some right turns to a street with a wide right shoulders, it thinks the shoulder is a lane and turns into it instead of the actual lane. Can you find some of those intersections and try it? Also experience some lane indecision.
