- In this video we'll balance the equation Na + H2O = NaOH + H2 and provide the correct coefficients for each compound.
To balance Na + H2O = NaOH + H2 you'll need to be sure to count all of atoms on each side of the chemical equation.
Once you know how many of each type of atom you can only change the coefficients (the numbers in front of atoms or compounds) to balance the equation.
Important tips for balancing chemical equations:
Only change the numbers in front of compounds (the coefficients).
Never change the numbers after atoms (the subscripts).
The number of each atom on both sides of the equation must be the same for the equation to be balanced.
For a complete tutorial on balancing all types of chemical equations, watch my video:

Your helping me in my study's
Excellent, glad I could help with your studies. --- Dr. B
Yes
@Rajeev Vij 😭
Ahh, thanks a lot! i spent 30mins trying to balance the hydrogen atoms by making it 3 in the LHS instead of trying to make the 3 atoms of H in the RHS an even number. So, what i learnt from this video is how to balance sodium + water chemical reaction and to keep in mind to change the odd numbers into even numbers. This hasn't even been mentioned in my textbook. Thanks a bunch! :)
So true!
Dammmmmnmnnn dude sameee
Same here! Thanks Dr. B
Same lol! It's my chemistry exam tomorrow!!
This man, still replies to comments. What a legend
It helped me a lot; many many thanks Sir! Love from INDIA!💞
Excellent! Glad I could help. --- Dr. B
@@wbreslyn thanks sir for helping us
thanks, dude you are doing a great job for the entire race of students who face regular problems in chemistry
No problem, glad I could help! --- Dr. B
you keep your self very close to the ground
thankyou, this makes my chemistry homework so much easier ahah
You're welcome 😊
From which country you are?
@@wbreslyn I learned so much from your vids thank you sir.
Actually.... I was unable to balance the equations... But now it become very easy to me to balance.... Thank you so much...
Excellent, glad to hear it! If you want more practice I built this app on my website: www.breslyn.org/chemistry/balancing/index-bal.php . There is a video for each practice equation.

Hey Dr. B I'm wondering of the H² in the right side what number will I put it?
You have helped me a lot Thankyou sooo much
Love from India💞
Thank you so much sir for helping . I had promblems in balencing these type of equations. It really helped me a lot...

Thx for explaining so good ....
It helped me when I was studying for the exam...
Thank you so much sir, you are great at balancing, because of you I was able to learn Balancing in 2 mins for my exams, I struggled literally for 1-2 years for learning and my goodness you made me learn in just two minutes, god bless you sir..
That is great to hear!
U r the best
I have not seen anybody who teachs like this
Really u r the best sir
Thank you so much for the help...

thank youuu!! I was struggling with this exact problem
Happy to help!
@@wbreslyn *yep*
You explain in very easy words.
Thanks!
Helped alot❤
The best chemistry teacher
I though left side 2x3
Right side 3x2
Save my 1hour time
Same, but then I realised that if we write the equation as 2+1×2 then we have to apply BODMAS and we get the correct number of atoms. 😀
Thank you❤very much for your help😊
You are most welcome!
Thank youuuu...omg i finally got it 🎉
THANK YOU SO MUCH OMG
Dear sir, could you explain me
why/how does sodium reacts with water to form the product in the equation but not any other product
Thank you very much my son is doing great because of you his always up to date with your teaching
Thank you so much sir
You are a best teacher sir❤❤❤
Thank u so much i was struggling on this homework question but now i get it
Thank You Dr. B for helping me out with this problem. From Assam, India.

Amazing teaching...thanks for helping😀
My pleasure 😊
you're helping me so much
Glad I can help!
Bro has a answer to every chemistry question Tysm I love u
Ywsm!
You are a amazing sir
How do u know which atom to start with? Like for example, a hydrogen and oxygen. Which one do i start with first to keep it balanced?
I'll usually balance the H and O last. As a general rule that works best. But there is a bit of trial and error. It does get easier the more you practice. --- Dr. B
you are a great teacher who teaches in so simple and easy way
Thank you! 😃
Thank you for this video🙌🙌, can we asks doubt in comment box
Your explanation is very good. l understand very well. thanks for making this video😇😇😇
Excellent! Glad I could help with Na + H2O. --- Dr. B
I was wondering can't you put a 1/2 in front of H2 and leave the rest. That is still balanced right ?
Yep, that would be correct. But many teachers won't accept that as an answer. So just make sure your teacher does. --- Dr. B
Thank you sir for teach me in very easy way . My doubt is clear because of u ..., thanks again
Excellent! Glad I could help with Na + H2O. --- Dr. B
Really u r a good teacher.. and God bless u

Thanks Sir! Really helped me
Most welcome!
helping my chemistry allot . thanks man
Happy to help!
thanks for taking the time to make this video :)
You are welcome, glad I could help with Na + H2O! --- Dr. B
From which country you are?
Good Dr B teach in a easy way
Thanks!
Why we don’t use same method in C2H6+ O2=CO2+H2o when we have 2 oxygen from reactants and we have 7 oxygen of products we multiply 2 oxygen by 2/7 here we didn’t use same method
You are a great man!!
This solved my chemistry problem!
I did well in my exam bcoz of you!
Thanks, that is good to hear!
You are awsome sir no can teach like this
Thanks!
thankyou you sir i have understood clearly thankyou
Best teacher everrrrrr!
Thanks!
Thanks for help...
Thanks you sir your videos are very helpful
Thank you!
Thank you so much ❤❤
You are awesome sir
what type of of connection this 2H have after reaction? non-polar?
Careful ... 2H means two separate H atoms. H2 means they are bonded together. The H2 is hydrogen gas and it is a non-polar compound (see th-cam.com/video/ePjlDZVvHTQ/w-d-xo.html). --- Dr. B
Thank u sir , u helped me very much thanks a lot
You are most welcome!
