    Rather have $1000 in a $10 wallet then $10 in a $1000 wallet.

    I have been using HF tools for years and I have had one failure. Not really a failure but a recall on one of their drills. I took it back 3 years after the recall notice and they just handed me a new one to replace the recalled item. I have both their series 2 26" top and bottom chests and also the series 2 44" top and bottom chests. They are built like tanks. I am a home diy'er. but I am retired and in my garage almost every day so these things get used. Good value for the money. Their consumables are not the greatest but not bad either.

    Fantastic video, especially for the younger guys starting out. New top quality Icon brand is actually damn good. I now have the 1/4" and 3/8" ratchets, nicer and longer handles than my Craftsman counterparts.

    When I started working as a fleet mechanic back in the mid-90’s I bought ALL Popular Mechanic brand tools from Walmart. This was for 2 reasons 1. Cost… 2. Walmarts was open 24/7 back then for tool replacement. Snap-On truck 21:33 only came once a week on payday! Even all these years later, if I break a tool Walmart will replace it with a STANLEY brand tool for free. lol

    I bought the new Series 3 72" slate grey toolbox + top hutch + side locker on sale. Saved $715 total on 25% off all 3 and paid $2,452 after taxes.
    Got the box at the parking lot sale, side locker from my membership and a no exclusions coupon on the top hutch. Yes i bought them separately, but only a few weeks apart luckily, i was very lucky all the deals hit so close to each other.
    PS I read that a HF rep said that Hercules brand never comes back from failures, but Bauer, earthquake and the other ones do come back alot. I have recently upgraded all my different size pneumatic impacts to Hercules battery operated ones and they are amazing, and now have the grinder and drills, getting the portaband and die grinder next.

    $1,000 can get you a good starter kit, but the damn tool boxes are so expensive. US General is very nice, but there are cheaper ones out there for those just starting. Once you start making some money you can always upgrade your tool box. Thanks for sharing this video.

    Harbor freight has great prices, but if you cannot go in the store and pick it up, do not order online. They have a bad online service. They don't keep track of their inventory. My very first order with them. I get a message next day telling me that my package is on back order after I pay $6.99 shipping. That sucks in my book so I thought I would let everyone know I will not order from harbor freight online anymore....first and last order.....

    Run back to harbor freight and get the $7.99 roll of padded backing for drawers and your wood top especially. Keeps the wood looking better and holds what you're doing on it better. Tip from TH-cam mechanic

    Lucky: Out of curiosity if you are just starting out at a shop, would you recommend getting a roll cart with drawer’s instead of big tool chest.

    That belt sander is more of a wood sander, I have one and it's too slow to remove metal efficiently.
    For metal work you need a 2X72 belt sander, one that it can move fast and is long enough to not overheat!

  • @jontnoneya3404
    @jontnoneya3404 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    LOVE Harbor Freight now but I was a SLOW convert. I'd heard horror stories and had too many bad experiences with tools crapping out right when you need them. That's what HF sounded like, just a retail version of the crap tools I used to find everywhere else. BOY was I WRONG.
    Not gonna lie tho, I did have a random orbit sander die on first use. The on/off switch broke on me literally on the first use. Took it back with the receipt and got a new one, with lots of apologies. That was inconvenient but a decent experience. Then I cautiously picked up a pair of Doyle pliers and was stunned that the quality was better than my old favorite set of pliers.....and that got me going.
    I started really converting but taking a tool inventory of what I had, what I needed then investigating options. My hand tools were a joke. All various sizes cobbled together over the years as hand-me-downs or garage sale finds. HF helped me fill out some much needed missing pieces.
    BUT I'll be honest, I don't always buy HF. I found a Dewalt 192 piece mechanics tool set provided MUCH more value. Found it on sale on Amazon for $155 and it was more complete than anything HF offered for less money. Also picked up a Gearwrench Ratcheting combination wrench set from Tractor Supply for way less than anything HF had on sale.
    For battery operated power tools, I usually found that the Ridgid sales at Home Depot offered better bang for the bucks than anything HF offered. BUT when it comes to low cost, corded tools, HF won me over. Picked up a sawzall, jig saw, hammer drill for like $30 each. I was walking out for less than $100 feeling like I'd stolen something. haha
    And OMG - the Bauer corded impact wrench with like 1,000 ft/lbs of break away torque for only $50?! Are you kidding me? Let's just assume that's like the max they got during testing and real life is only going to be about 1/2 that, well it's still a damned good buy and I'm not trying to win any competitions on torque here.
    With all that positivity from HF I plopped down $600 for a Series 3 US General box and I absolutely LOVE this thing. The Series 3s are well made, loaded with features and I got the bright orange which looks like Harley Davidson orange and I couldn't be happier!!
    And right now Mar 14, 2024, they have their Pittsburgh 1/2 in drive, 25 in long breaker bar on sale for $17!!! I mean you just can't go wrong with that especially cuz it's backed up by a lifetime warranty!! Simply amazing!
    I love HF and if I get to wrenching a lot, I may upgrade some of my tools to the ICON brands but for now, what they've provided got me MUCH further down the road than I ever imagined. They're most certainly NOT a bad tool pushing company.

    My Chicago sawsall cost $20 and I've had it for almost 10 years.
    I wish you picked the cheap one. The come-along (hand-winch) has been awesome too. The welders are ok but I've been having issues with my Titanium welder... the wire feed is too weak with stronger wire.

    I've never liked the harbor freight welders, seems like no matter what it just doesn't get hot enough to lay down a good bead. Granted, welding is not my first skill, its more like the last. At toyota dealerships we don't really weld.......ever. And I've been there for a super long time. I wanna own a shop one day, but the current economy scares me

    • @ardz8279
      @ardz8279 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Omni-Pro 220 is da bom, bro... I use it to mig sheet metal (16-22 ga mostly). The inverter in my welder is smooth and lays weld real nice. The display and settings are consistent and reproduceable time after time, year after year. The machine is definitely more capable than my skill level for the kind of restoration work I do. If you're going for the old/cheap Chicago flux-core machine, you're bound to be disappointed for anything but basic projects. I sucked it up and took the classes and practiced to figure out that I was the problem and not the tool. No shame in it...it's on us to do something about it. no?

    I just had a Harbor Fright Automotive Pro scan tool that was deprecated by an update because the manufacture only put 16 GB of space on a $1000 scan tool, the update locked the scan tool and rendered it inoperable. No problem I have a $169.00 two year extended warranty, its only been 32 days and the Harbor Fright in store 30 day warranty has expired. Here is where it gets odd and sketchy, Harbor Fright refuses to send your item in for repairs when you have an extended warranty, but states in my case that I lose my $169.00 extended warranty when they replace the item. Okay you might say, just ask for full refund it has only been 32 days and they should refund the cost of the item and the prorated extended warranty, right?. No Harbor Fright says because they are issuing a refund you lose or "Use Up" your warranty. I found that you should not try explaining how the warranty runs for two years and include replacements and repairs for that two years unless they decide to prorate the warranty. Otherwise they will need to honor repairing or replacing the the item for two years. Or refund the unused portion of the warranty, nevertheless I was refused the extended warranty refund. Which resulted with me filling a case with the California Attorney Generals office because Harbor Frights main office resides in California, once HFT was contacted by the California AGs offices they refunded a portion of money and stated it was a misunderstanding with the restocking fee. What restocking fee?. Bottom line it appears the update was meant to kill or deprecate the Scan Tool so that I would buy a newer product or exchange my item one time with Harbor Fright pocketing the $169.00 extended warranty fee. Harbor fright should be made to repair the ZR-PRO™ Professional Automotive Scanner and return it to me.
