I think pleated lampshades are dust collectors. Many of the older ones are lined with a plastic like liners which crack the older they are and the more heat they're subjected to. The ancestor portrait was a steal even if it did have some sun fading but in the right space color-wise, it can work nicely. The bamboo style frame at that size also makes it a great deal. The carpet is classic and works with so many decorating choices. We too have no dressing room access in too many thrifts these days. Yes, GW is all over the place price and selection wise. I'd love to see your take on estate sales, vintage, antiques, and multi-vendor booth malls. Love, love, love Decatur, GA for the shops (thrifts, vintage, books) but also for the Asian markets, Indian restaurants, and spectacular Farmer's Market choices. Hope your day was filled with good food and more good finds. As always, love the videos!
One important thing to remember about thrift stores: it's all about timing. When do they restock? It can be completely random, so a lot of thrift shopping is dependent on luck. The most successful shoppers go often to the same stores.
The narration of these videos is so relaxing, I love that! I’m in Minneapolis, and a huge thrifter and the Value Villages here are not really impressive at all and I typically don’t stop there unless I have something specific in mind I can’t find elsewhere. Goodwill stores here are definitely price-gouging on anything they can, and not being able to try clothes on in store anymore is super inconvenient and annoying too.
When you mentioned it being hard to buy a thrifted suit it reminded me of our thrift adventure earlier this year. My family and I were on vacation on Cape Cod late May this year. The weather was colder and windier than the others anticipated so we popped into a thrift store for them to buy an extra layer. (Sweatshirt, sweater or jacket.) Everyone found something good but I, the one that did not need something warmer, was the one that hit the jackpot! Casually browsing a very small collection of suits and sports coats I found a double breasted tuxedo. I already own one and rarely have an opportunity to wear it. But I tried on the jacket and except for the sleeves being a small fraction of an inch shorter than I would like but was near perfect. They did have a dressing room. I popped in and the pants were a PERFECT fit. Waist and length. My Levis are 32W 34L so it exceedingly rare to find pants in retail stores that fit. At $5 I couldn't resist. Got home to Virginia as I was checking the pockets before taking to the dry cleaners noticed that it has a label from a British clothing brand that had a warrant from the Queen Mother!
In my area we definitely have to watch out for creepers who will see something they want and “shop” out of our carts. I had to wrestle a barely worn alpaca coat away from someone who thought I wasn’t looking!😾 It looked great on me for many winters. 😊 Looking forward to your next project. 😺✌️
That was a funny story! There must be something about animal skin or wool that brings out the beastly behavior in some people🤨. I had a similar experience at a thrift store, I found an authentic, real Australian white sheepskin rug, a large one. I had it in my hands standing at the register waiting to pay and some woman came up to me and said "are you gonna buy that?" and of course I said "yes"😛, and I still have it. Maybe she thought she would intimidate me out of buying it? However I'm not spineless.
Wowza, the 2 Goodwills you visited looked much swankier than the one in my city. Being a two public University location (Denton, Tx) there are multiple thrift stores with varying degrees of selection. While the turnover of college students is great for curbside and thrift store finds, there's also more competition with thrift savvy students. The desktop organizer reminds me of your 2 cabinet solution next to the fireplace in your bedroom. Thrifting is a great way to satisfy that basic hunter-gatherer aspect of human nature. LOL Cheers Andrew. PS, While a conical pleated lampshade has it's place, a simple drum is much more versatile in my opinion.
I love thrifting with you! Queenie is such a cutie pie! Please feature more of her. By the way, that abstract pencil holder/catch-all reminds me of the wall you had to camouflage in your bedroom, to the left of the fireplace, by the door.
That gorgeous rug for $20?! Oh, wow. Great find. I need one like that for my entranceway. The art deco looking pencil holder is another gem. I would have used that delightfully vintage looking wire trash basket for storage or display. This is inspiring me to make a run to my local thrift stores! Couldn't find any Value Village stores where I live (FL)
The frame in that woman's cart looked gorgeous. Shame about Value Village, I was tut tutting on your behalf. Thanks for the video. Except for the shocking glimpse of that neon yellow jacket though. My eyes, my eyes! 😂🙈
My local Goodwill has the certain color tags that are 50% off for that week, but on Sundays, items are just $1. I find that the best days to shop at my Goodwill are Sundays for dollar days and Tuesdays when things are restocked. I do not have a Value Village near me in New Jersey, but we do have quite a lot of other thrift stores such as Salvation Army and The Arc as well as some smaller independently owned thrift shops. By the way, you got an amazing deal on that gorgeous rug! Queenie has good taste!
I'm in Massachusetts, we don't have Value Village. We have Savers (which is under the same parent company as VV). Maybe this is solely based on our different locations, but Savers is cleaner, better organized, usually substantially larger and with all that being said, PRICEY! I also watch those Canadian TH-camrs and their trips to Value Village. I'd say I have a similar experience to their shopping trips. There are some real gems but the prices have gone up over the past few years. Thanks for sharing your trips with us!! I love seeing you gravitate toward the same stuff I'm into :)
I’m in Western Canada and I have not had great luck at Value Village for furniture or housewares. My daughter has found some of her favourite cool clothes from there though. Value Village is a little pricy compared to other thrift stores in my area. I prefer our local hospital auxiliary thrift store. Great items snd amazing prices.
Oh goodie! A new one from Reissued/Andrew! I look forward to each one, and love going thrifting with you. Your sense of style is so much like mine. I have a pair of those stainless steel mushroom lamps I got for 1.00 each at an antique mall closing sale. :)
In my area Value Village is known as Savers. I find the couple of savers I have near me far superior than the goodwill by me (barely any furniture, extremely hit or miss) and Salvation Army (pricing is much higher). I find I like my savers much better because I usually find something interesting, fair pricing compared to most thrift stores by me, well organized and pretty clean. Plus if you donate items you get a coupon. I’ve also been to the mega goodwill in Seattle which was huge and had some great finds so it clearly depends on each one.
I live in the same city as Alexandra Gater. I wonder if because we don't have Goodwill anymore if perhaps items that would have gone there now got to Value Village? Can't wait for your next video. Enjoy your weekend!
Hey Andrew! That was a fun Thrift Video. We don't have Value Village here, and it seems like I am not missing anything. I like Goodwill, Second Avenue and Restore. Miss seeing Mom and Dad and it was great to see Queenie. Stay dry this weekend. Take care - Don
Score with the rug! I'm glad it passed 🖤Queenie's🖤 approval! You have good self control, I rarely leave a thrift store without something. For a cost suits can be tailored to fit you perfectly, depending upon suit quality it may be worth it. Good tailoring can make things look almost custom made. If you like shape but not color perhaps spray paint basket? But that would also be an additional project, but a relatively quick one. The silver lamp was indeed nice.
The 90's pleated lampshade? Leave it back in the 90's. We've moved on. Minneapolis Value Village is pretty good. Large selection(s) and approximately 4 locations throughout the Twin Cities. I have found some unique items on occasion.
Thrifting in my area Value Village was always last on the list for pricing until Goodwill caught up to surpass price gauging in recent years. They are both about the same here for hit or miss content. To find best prices I go to actual non profits, like Kiwanis, Soroptomist, several Animal rescue/ Humane society related and of course Habitat for Humanity! Prices always rock and it just feels better when you know it's for a good cause. ( I also only donate exclusively to these shops)😻
I enjoy going to goodwill and see a dollar store plate with a 3.99 price on it. No value village near me. Some of these thrift stores are price gouging imo. I move on and find another more reasonably priced store. There are two near me that support a food pantry and the other an animal shelter. Usually willing to price negotiate on some of their items too. 💖💖🎶🎶
I'm in Toronto and I have stopped going to Value Village. In the past few years they have jacked up their prices so much, it's laughable. Yes, there is good stuff, but you're practically paying retail. Thanks for the video.
I feel like that beige color is more 90’s to me than the shade itself. I think if it was a brighter or lighter color it might make it feel more contemporary.
The brass waste basket would look good with crumpled brown paper bag liners for rubbish or insert cream, white or best idea black calico liner to hide rubbish bag. Looking forward to some more of your art projects. Forgive mr for being a choosing beggar but I do love all your posts, thankyou.
We don't have anything like these thrift shops in Northern Ireland, just small charity shops/secondhand shops so I'm jealous that you have such a selction in the US and Canada 🤎
The wire basket would have been known as a waste paper basket. Think in terms of a days of old writer or journalist trying to type their novel on an old clanky type writer with no way to erase or delete, making a mistake ripping that page out of the typewriter and balling it up and tossing it into the basket. With it holding nothing more than balls of crumpled paper it didn’t need to have a liner or bag in it. Alas I am not creative enough to think of a modern use for it. Edited to add I just thought of something, if you owned an apple or orange tree you could use it to display/house your harvests! Maybe?
Hi Andrew! Yeah, I've never been to a Value Village. I'm like you, not thrilled about that place, not there isn't ever anything good, but it's funny how you just know when you walk in. It looked like you were in the Goodwill in Tyrone? How can I tell? I can't lol. Just thought maybe it was that one, I know, they all are alike right? haha. I wish there were more thrift stores around, but it seems like we only have Goodwills mainly, which is fine, but they are a bit high sometimes. Great find on the rug and the pencil/brush holder. We went to an estate sale a few weeks ago, those are always hit or miss too, but pricey. Good luck on thrifting, I too think it's just hit or miss.❤
I was wondering which ones he was in too. I have been to the one in Tyrone and the one in Newnan . Definitely hit or miss . Haven't been to a Value Village in years. The Goodwill in Smyrna on 41 was a bust last 2 times I went . The other one I hit often is Lost n Found on Chantilly. Although last time I went I walked out with nothing. I use to walk out with a full cart.
@@s.fuhrmann we went to the one in Tyrone when it first opened, they had tons of good stuff. We bought our daughter 2 rattan chairs, (I've never seen this type before), for $25.00. Then another one another time for $10.00. Really good finds. Not much since, but we live in Pike now, so we don't get up there very often. You never know, it is hit or miss.
I'm in the Boston area, and we don't have Value Village that I know of. We have a ton of Savers stores, which do pretty well. The Goodwill stores near me truly jack up the prices on literally everything, so I don't visit them too much. Salvation Army has a back area where all picture frames are $1, and I got a $250 painting that was in a frame that nobody realized was from an artist featured in auctions regularly, so that was a win.
nothing wrong with that lampshade, it is my preferred style and colour. (of course my house's style is sort of stuck in the 90's . . . ) I've been disappointed with VV (location Saskatchewan) lately, prices are getting so close to new. I used to buy my work shirts there, given what I do for a living I am hard on clothes, but to save just a couple bucks? no longer worth it. My current favourite thrift store is the Mennonite Central Committee Village Green.
The Bslue Village near me used to be great for certain things, like glass , sweaters, baby clothes, baskets, and Christmas decor. Good will used to be great but about 15 yrs ago there was a big shift and now jeans are $20-25 and a rug? That’s be $80-100 now. Some are crazy, asking $3-5 for a Dollar store $1 item.
Value Village in NC used to have such better selection of clothing than Goodwill. They also had 50% off days regularly and were large department store size. I now live near Spokane WA and the 50% off days are gone but the selection is still pretty good. Unfortunately I have to drive over an hour to get there so it happens rarely esp with the sale incentive gone. Goodwill has become more expensive and the selection is ok but also I look at the business practice and Goodwill scores lower. I prefer the one off thrift stores where the more of the money is going to the cause. As far as the look of the store, I’d say it’s hit or miss. I’d expect better deals from a janky looking store and I wouldn’t mind shipping there if that’s true. I’m more of a bins gal these days because *cheap and the thrill of the hunt. I recently scored a mid century sewing machine for 6 bucks as well as a king down comforter and two new hotel style pillow for a few bucks. It’s def not fancy but can score some amazing deals. Have you tried the bins Andrew? It’s a great place to score upcycle material at least, if not some actual good clothing finds.
So I did what I was told, paused the video and made a coffee before watching. 😂 Love my Sunday morning Re-Issued! I have to say I have such envy watching you and other TH-camrs in the US, UK and Canada thrifting. In Australia the prices are generally high and the quality poor. Maybe something to do with being a young country with a smaller, very spread out population. I would have snapped up that $17 lamp, even if it was a do-up!
Have the pleated shade on lamp base I really like, but it was old, had aged to a dirty tan. Had redone room and shade was the one thing that was 'off' so brushed on a few coats of white chalk paint. Looks brand new, very clean and bright. Not a light which needs to be turned on that often, because the paint makes it appear blotchy, but the visual, when off, was exactly the look I wanted.
There are no Value Villages in my area, but the 3 Goodwill's in my town are awful...barely anything on the shelves and the stuff on the shelves is garbage/overpriced. So glad you have some decent Goodwill's in your area.
That emperor art piece was a STEAL!! I'm into chinoiserie and that piece could easily run $500-$1,000. I have found Goodwill stores to be something like Chinese restaurants. They're really great when they first open, but once they get a following, not so much. In Chinese restaurants, it's the General Tso chicken that suffers. LOL
I’ve been to the Value Village stores in Atlanta and don’t like them at all. The last goodwill you went to is the one I used to go to almost every day. It started sucking too tho haha
I sadly don't shop at Value Village anymore. I'm about 1 to 3 hrs (depending on traffic) west of Toronto. Have they ever jacked up their prices. Not worth it in my opinion.
Here near Raleigh and I don't think we have Value Village. Goodwill depends on the location. It seems the thrift stores that benefit causes, like Cause for Paws and Habitat and Guardian Angel... etc can be better bc people want to donate more to support.
I have never walked into a Goodwill and thought "wow, everything is so reasonable here". Once in awhile I can find a good deal but for the most part their pricing is so all over the place that I get frustrated.
My biggest pet peeve are no bathrooms and no dressing rooms!! Have they really lost that much money from people stealing that good customers (the majority of us) get punished?? A lot of stores are doing this now. Makes me not wanna shop there.
Thrifting where I live is futile for the most part unless its clothing. It's a small rural area so everybody knows somebody who can use what you dont want & the stuff that ends up in the thrift stores is.... well, not the greatest.
I’m from Canada and yes, it’s true, the Value Village stores here are much better! (From my experience.) Also, Queenie’s little plop down on the rug at the end… 🥹
Adore you and look forward to all your videos. Surprised you don't have a million + subscribers. People are missing out. Keep on thrifting!
9:06 That Asian print is amazing, as well!
5:13 That leather suitcase was amazing!
I would have bought that too. A little saddlesoap and it would have looked much better ❤️🐝🤗
14:08 I love that rug!
As always, love the videos!
i have a similar open-weave wire trash bin - I just used a wrinkled paper bag as a "permanent" liner and it looks pretty cool.
“Perfect not a project”. My new shopping mantra. 🤓
One important thing to remember about thrift stores: it's all about timing. When do they restock? It can be completely random, so a lot of thrift shopping is dependent on luck. The most successful shoppers go often to the same stores.
I read that Tuesday is a good day to shop at Goodwill because people donate stuff they couldn't sell at tag sales. IDK, but it could be.
The narration of these videos is so relaxing, I love that!

That was a funny story! There must be something about animal skin or wool that brings out the beastly behavior in some people🤨. I had a similar experience at a thrift store, I found an authentic, real Australian white sheepskin rug, a large one. Wowza, the 2 Goodwills you visited looked much swankier than the one in my city. i thought Value Village was a Canadian thing. so this was informative. i'm really into a pleated lamps lately!
Those shades make great dust catchers and can look grey and dingy in no time
I saw a similar gold wired trash can and those were my EXACT thoughts too!
The brass waste basket would look good with crumpled brown paper bag liners for rubbish or insert cream, white or best idea black calico liner to hide rubbish bag. Looking forward to some more of your art projects. Forgive mr for being a choosing beggar but I do love all your posts, thankyou.

Fellow Aussie here and I totally agree including I would have snapped up the lamp too!
Hi Andrew love the rug so does Queenie ❤Australia Xx
Have the pleated shade on lamp base I really like, but it was old, had aged to a dirty tan. Had redone room and shade was the one thing that was 'off' so brushed on a few coats of white chalk paint. Looks brand new, very clean and bright. Not a light which needs to be turned on that often, because the paint makes it appear blotchy, but the visual, when off, was exactly the look I wanted.
An umbrella holder for the waste basket? Or it might have had a linen type lining? 🤷♀️😊
There are no Value Villages in my area, but the 3 Goodwill's in my town are awful...barely anything on the shelves and the stuff on the shelves is garbage/overpriced. So glad you have some decent Goodwill's in your area.
Our Value Village in the Reno Nevada area went out of business, that might tell you something..
Ya I’m in Ontario, Canada, and our Value Villages are way better it seems 😝
That emperor art piece was a STEAL!! I'm into chinoiserie and that piece could easily run $500-$1,000. I have found Goodwill stores to be something like Chinese restaurants. They're really great when they first open, but once they get a following, not so much. In Chinese restaurants, it's the General Tso chicken that suffers. LOL
I’ve been to the Value Village stores in Atlanta and don’t like them at all. The last goodwill you went to is the one I used to go to almost every day. It started sucking too tho haha
Haha well it turned out ok for me on the day I went!
Love the video!
Where is the last Goodwill you went to. Just moved to the Atlanta area! Thrifting here is amazing!
I sadly don't shop at Value Village anymore. I'm about 1 to 3 hrs (depending on traffic) west of Toronto. Have they ever jacked up their prices. Not worth it in my opinion.
Wonderful finds at great prices!
Enjoyed watching...🫶
@13:31 I see a FRIED WIG! lol
Here near Raleigh and I don't think we have Value Village. Goodwill depends on the location. It seems the thrift stores that benefit causes, like Cause for Paws and Habitat and Guardian Angel... etc can be better bc people want to donate more to support.
Ummmm.....go back to VV and get that leather suitcase for MMMEEEEE !
😂😂😂
New subscriber.. watching from Tennessee ❤️
We don’t have a value village here but I think it’s the same thing as Savers. Our Savers is pretty great but they mark up their prices for sure.
I would have snappes up that Rose Apothecary shirt!! 🌹 Love $chitts Creek!
Where was the first Goodwill located, please?
The small gold trash bin could store your onions and potatoes, though not its intended purpose
Drape a sheer scarf or piece of fabric over the pleated shade. That might help.
I live in a pretty well-to-do area but our thrift stores here are always pretty blah....
I have never walked into a Goodwill and thought "wow, everything is so reasonable here". Once in awhile I can find a good deal but for the most part their pricing is so all over the place that I get frustrated.
i personally think the shade is sort of ugly, but maybe it's the dingy color?
My biggest pet peeve are no bathrooms and no dressing rooms!! Have they really lost that much money from people stealing that good customers (the majority of us) get punished?? A lot of stores are doing this now. Makes me not wanna shop there.
Can legally Value Village have no public restrooms
Well they have one but you have to climb 20 stairs
I'm in my 80's and it hurts😢
Im in alberta and i have yet to find any good thrift store. VV wants 20$ for awful used jeans.
Value village is the new best place to find fake designer purses last week i found the showcase filled with fake gucci purses and fake dior
👏👏👏
I’ll say it again - you need a wing chair!
👍
Thrifting where I live is futile for the most part unless its clothing. It's a small rural area so everybody knows somebody who can use what you dont want & the stuff that ends up in the thrift stores is.... well, not the greatest.
ah.. just the youtuber i wanted to see
Don’t go to savers it’s the exact opposite
Highway robbery
🐾❤
👍✨💫😎🩵
You have Never been to VV?? I am not judging u ...but I 'm I am giving u the side eye 😅😅😅
I’m from Canada and yes, it’s true, the Value Village stores here are much better! (From my experience.)
Also, Queenie’s little plop down on the rug at the end… 🥹
