As someone who’s responsible for designing HMI’s, doing PLC Upgrades and coming up with new design look and changes this is very solid information that I need to know and pay attention to.
Tank you, for your work, I really love how clear and detailed are your videos, and those are helping me and so many peope to grow. As this topic is very important for automation engineers, it would be assome if you could update videosof SCADA design on ICONICS or Ignition.
Hi Emanuel, Thanks for your kind comment, we appreciate such positive feedback! Thanks as well for your suggestion. I will pass this on to our course developers! Thanks for sharing and happy learning!
I'm a maintenance technician that is cross-training as a controls tech. I've been tasked with upgrading Legacy Panelviews to PV+ and some Archestra development, as well. I noticed that the book is from 2008. Is there an updated version? If not, is the material in the book still considered best practice?
Yes, the High-Performance HMI Handbook was published in 2008, but it is still considered the gold standard on the topic. The ISA 101 standard, published in 2015, embodies many concepts from the handbook into an international standard. This standard has been the foundation of the style guides published by many vendors, including Rockwell and Yokogawa. Both the H-P HMI Handbook and the ISA-101 standard will give you the blueprint for effective operator interface design.

what is the base system where such an HMI has been implemented? I mean is it Siemens WinCC or AllenBradley? of course, theoretically it could be anyone. Nevetheless, the IDE or framework limits you while developing such a nice tools as sparklines / spider charts, etc.
Thank you for your question. You are correct; any HMI package can be used to develop high-performance graphics according to ISA101. I believe the ones in this video were configured using Siemens WinCC Advanced. The elements that are available to use in the graphic displays is dependent upon the HMI software package being used. However, most any widget or display element can be created in most packages from the elementary parts and tools provided.

you can pretty much eliminate level 3 by putting device details in a clickable popup display. i see that in most plants
Thanks for adding that!
