JD thank you for stopping by & adding this information. This video was the first time I used this. Had a little difficulty getting to discern the tones, but got close enough for what I needed then. If you have any tips on how to this more efficiently please share. I am always looking for the better ways to get things done. Thank you for your support. Stay safe, Joe Z
Trick I learned is if you want to be sure you found the right wire take the ends of the wire you think it is and touch them together and the tone will stop because of continuity. The toner will not work if there is. Also if possible if you are connecting one end to a ground that's connected to other things the tone will bleed out to other places. Good luck!
How far can it track a cable? I’m hooking up to a connector at the front of a coach bus and trying to get a signal in the back but am not getting anything
Thank you for stopping by. In the video th-cam.com/video/KLJ3SmjduDM/w-d-xo.html where I first used it there was about a 10 foot span. I do not know how far it can track. How far did it track for you before you did not get anything?
Keep in mind I am not an electrician & not giving electrical advice but rather showing how I figured out an electrical problem I had. That said I have a video showing how I used this th-cam.com/video/KLJ3SmjduDM/w-d-xo.html. If you do not want to watch the whole video go to 07:00:00 The electrical power must be off. chevy blazer vehicle side trailer harness colors should be the same as standard flat 4 connector wire color code, brown is running light / licence light, green and yellow are right and left turn /stop

Hi Andrew, this was the first time I used one of these. It takes a little getting time getting use to it but it was a big help with my electrical problem. I will now try it out on my Blazers' factory installed trailer wiring harness. All lights have power to the trailer but the running lights. Thank you for stopping by. Stay safe, Joe Z
Hi ginnifer, on the repair I was doing it wasn't of much help. Could partly be me not having the "knack" yet. The wire I was trying to trace was twisted in a bundle with several other wires. They carried the single so I could not tell where the issue was using this tracker. I was able to separate only in a small space. The bundle went between the chassis & other parts where I was unable to separate the wires. This worked well to help me find a break in the current in my kitchen. This is the video if you would like to see it helping out with that repair th-cam.com/video/KLJ3SmjduDM/w-d-xo.html I am not knocking this tracker. With some practice & certain repairs it can be a big time saver. Let me know if you have any questions. Stay safe, Joe Z
Thank you for watching & taking the time to comment It took me awhile to utilize this for tracking auto wires. I think the wires in the harness being tightly bound together give off a false single. Took me awhile to figure it out. Worked much better in a home wire issue. If you would like to see how I used it for the house wire here is the video.th-cam.com/video/KLJ3SmjduDM/w-d-xo.html Stay safe, Joe Z
Thank you. Was it able to help you find the fault? Just curious did you get the HF cable tracker like the one I used or the higher price one from Amazon? I was wondering if the higher priced model is worth the price for occasional or one time use. The HF tracker is not made like a a higher priced model but in this case was of help. Thanks again for visiting & taking the time to comment. Stay safe, Joe Z

What I like about this device is that most circuit breaker finders you have to physically come in contact with the wire or breaker to get an actual alert. This device lets you just get near the live connection and you get the same alert.
Thank you for watching & taking the time to comment. I am glad you found this video useful. This tracker takes a little time to get use to but it was effective for what I bought it for. Hope you get to enjoy more of my videos'. Stay safe, Joe Z
have it and what piece of garbage. Mine behaves NOTHING like yours. The only place you get the warbling tone is when the sensor is RIGHT NEXT to the generator. It will not even tone when the sensor is near the alligator clips.... I get the warbling tone ONLY when the sensor is right next to the signal generator. C R A P.... and it's going back tomorrow
Hi Gene, I do not have any previous experience with this type of tool other than using it here for the first time. I did not know what to expect. In my case it did the job. At HF it is a hit & miss with a lot of their electrical tools. I had 3 wielders I had to bring back, got stuck with the fourth one (90 days passed ) & the fifth one I put a couple rolls of wire through with no issue YET. I am not a wielder but I did follow how to install the wire. The trigger, (gun ) stopped feeding on them with 1 or less spools of wire going through. Unfortunately QC does not seem to be a #1 priority. That said I do have tools from HF that were unbeatably priced & I use often. Best recommendation I can make is put what you buy from HF to the TEST within the 90 days. Hope you get you wiring issue taken of. Stay safe, Joe Z
@@JOEZEP54 Yeah... I addressed the wiring issue... I ended up tracing it right from the breaker box up into the attic... And therein lies my tale of woe... 2.5 feet of insulation up there with 2x4 joists 20" on center. Put my knee right through the ceiling! I have not used such language since Basic.... All that could have been avoided if HF had done at least a half-assed job in producing their good. Now it's off to buy some dry wall, mud and a good screw gun I will NOT be buying at HF! That said, I too have had good deals from HF. In fact, I started buying stuff from them in the 80's from their catalogue. Simple and robust is what to buy from them. I still have a 11 piece deep impact set I ordered for $10 or so close to 35 years ago. Another observation... While prices are still pretty low, they are nowhere near the bargains they used to be.... Anyway, I'll cool down at some point and I'm sure I'll buy there again. In this economy, you simply have to go cheap as often as you can
@@genecurrivan2799 I have been there myself a few times. 1 step forward & 3 back. I am not going to give a LOL not sure if you cooled down yet , AH LOL! I remember the HF catalogues. Their prices have been going up for some time now. Started before covid. It would not be so bad if they upped their QC. Some of their tool prices are getting close to the box stores. If they stay on this course there really will not much reason to keep shopping there. I use to buy mostly Craftsman, some S&K & Husky. Still have them but any new additions are HF. The wrenches may or may not be exact but for what I use them for they fit the bill. Hope you get some cool weather to work on your ceiling. Stay well, Joe Z

You said checking through the wall? This is only for direct current not exceeding 42v dc
Thank you for watching. That is correct. The power should be off. The tracker is tracing the current it transmits.

I believe you are supposed to connect the black alligator clip to get it to stop beeping when tracing the brake in the cable
Thank you for stopping by & adding this information. I will have to go check it out

This is correct, red on to-be-traced line and black on paired ground.
Where do you hook up the leads?
