I had a bad car accident when I was 21 (a drunk driver crashed into me on the freeway)I was driving the speed limit at 65mph and the driver was going about 100/110mphthe report said, he lost control of his in the far right lane and I was in the far left lane) he t-boned my passenger side door pinning me in the car against the large cement highway divide my arm and wrist were crushed between myself and the inside of the driver door......I had to receive emergency surgery that day I had a crush ulna and radius bone (both bones were through and through) along with a broken wrist( scaphoid/lunate/triquetral) I had to receive plates and screws and a huge cast. when I finally woke up in recovery I started freaking out bc I couldn't feel my hand like at all I thought I'd never get to use my hand again....long story short the Ortho surgeon gave me a nerve block injection while I was sedated for surgery to really help with the pain for the first two days ... Since I had a cast I could only see my knuckles down to my finder tips ....they were stained orangish / red for five days 😂
Oh my goodness! Do you have very many issues with your hand/arm today?? My stepdaughter had foot surgery at 13. She did the same wjen she woke up but she thought uer foot was gone, that they had amputated it.😂😂
@@mariarivera806 yeah all good today. This was almost 17 years ago and the old wise tail is true once you get metal plates and screws placed into your body you definitely can feel rain coming
Very fun to see and know. They take it all very seriously and it is also very assuring that they will do the very best to see that you are taken care of.
I found it very itchy/irritating in my skin anytime they used it on me in previous surgeries. Once it was washed off fully it felt better but I couldn’t stand the itch!
Every time I see betadine I think of iodine, which was a favorite of my grandmother's for treating small cuts and scrapes. And man, did that stuff sting! What's the difference between the two?
Why put the patient completely under, instead of an epidural? I know if you if would it's going to be a very long procedure but otherwise is it normal? Just curious since I had to have my foot put back together ( broke several bones) and they used an epidural so I was awake the whole time.
Epidural most likely wouldn't reach high enough to block nerve endings of the arm. It is effective for blocking off lower nerves, making it suitable for labour pains, C-section and lower limb surgery. The danger of getting a high epidural/high spinal is that it paralyses the diaphragm, i.e. you will not be able to breathe.

Man they cut off my circulation when doing my arm surgery and just ripped the blood pressure cuff off. It was so painful.
I use betadine watered down for reptiles
If a person is allergic to betadine what are other alternatives for sterilizing the area being cut open?
That creeped me out because I had hand surgery on my right hand!!
It looks red, the one we have at home is brown, is it the light that makes it look red, or is it different color betadine in the USA?
No, it's brown. It must be the lighting. 😊

It’s not particularly “fun” as one follow commented, it is reassuring if one has been or will need surgery…
