  • Jeff Brohm was a former Louisville QB who became a big time coach at Purdue. After 6 seasons, Brohm has decided to go back home to Louisville and today I want to talk about Brohm, his story so far and why this is a program changing hire, enjoy!

As a Boiler alum and fan I really liked Jeff. He made Purdue really fun to watch. I do agree that he should cracked down on those stupid penalties. I don’t remember any player issues off the field so he recruits decent guys. I can only imagine what he could have done with an Alabama offense. Good for Louisville and I hope he does well. We knew all along he’d be going back to Louisville so that was no surprise.

It's a big deal for Louisville to finally have a quality coach with actual roots (very deep ones) to the city. My one concern had been defense, which like Petrino while at UofL, always seemed to be an afterthought for Brohm-coached teams. It appears Brohm turned that corner at Purdue and started taking that side of the ball seriously. As long as he brings his usual offensive flare and puts a competent defense on the field, UofL will become a contender in the ACC. And Brohm is finally the coach that likely won't get the wandering eye after just a few years of success.

Best possible hire and situation here for the coach. People outside of Louisville dont understand how well loved Jeff Brohm is in that town. Its basically a coach for life situation (thats 5-6 years in college football I guess) and there isnt many coming for his bump unless they put deon, or Brian Brohm in the spot. Perdue was about to get shook up in the new b1g divisions, and it seemed like he hit his ceiling. He is great recruiting the south and midwest, and gets you a weirdo gadget playbook and some cool passing spread stuff, though his offense is going to need a lot of work. If his spread couldnt work in the big with mid conference talent and push past the one on ones on the outside, I dont know how much success you might expect from him vs. the Clemsons, FSUs, VTs, and other ACC defenses that play well against his scheme. Bobby bolted, Charlie bolted, Vance was charlie's guy, and scott needed help recruiting. They got their alumni to keep the boosters happy, and the brohm family is always charming in the sports community, so its all on the up and up for him as long as he can make changes to keep succeeding. Im not a big fan of his stubborness and clock management. I feel like he gets qbs and receivers hurt with bad playcalling after he baits defenses into a blitz. Watch the last 3 plays of the B1G championship. Two nothing plays, then a sprint out like hes got patrick mahomes in madden with 90 seconds left, after not scoring a touchdown for two hours previous, going no huddle, like hes going to march down the field and score 3 touchdowns, recover 2 onsides, and convert a 2 pointer TO TIE THE GAME. They couldnt score 2 touchdowns all night and Jeff wanted to push that team down the field, not even 2nd team. His QB ends up getting blasted out of the pocket after he called two time outs, down 3+ scores with a minute left. He called the sprint out with no time outs and got a sack. Having a running qb will be good for him, and I think we could see a cool evolution for him the same way harbaugh went from this big set pro style offense, to using his offense with a more mobile qb. Brohm is going to have some atheletes that can make plays, and someone that can tuck the ball, and make a defense give up a first down on a keeper if they want to go man and shut down deep routes. UL is a way better team in a competitive conference. Great news for everyone. I hope perdue can get a nice step up hire and keep the big a strong conference, but there are tough roads to california and new jersey ahead for all the b1g schools.

Jeff is not only from Louisville, both his parents are as well. He is a legacy at UofL as his dad played there in the 1960s. His dad went to the same high school as Howard Schnellenberger so when Howard took over it was a lot easier to recruit Jeff who could have played for Lou Holtz at Notre Dame. His brother Greg had already made the decision earlier which made staying home and playing for the Cards even more appealing. Their sister was also a UofL athlete and of course baby brother Brian who may have been a better QB than either Jeff or their dad Oscar, also played for the Cards. All the Brohm brothers still have homes in Louisville. All this to say that Jeff's Cardinal roots run deep and there could not be a choice out there who would care more about the program or want it to succeed more than he. There is no choice that would get 99 or 100% acceptance of the fan base but like with Kenny Payne and the basketball job there is no choice that would come closer. As a local legend and legacy he'll get more time than an outsider to get the program back on track. If it works out, it's much more likely that he would not leave for another program.

@@trxulyking3487 lmao bruh there was no college football playoff in 2013. that’s first of all. second of all we were in the acc and lost a game. not the sec so a championship berth was out of the question. also what does 2013 have to do with jeff brohm ??? not a damn thing that’s what. and as far as kenny payne. you gotta be some a dumb and blind fan to think that man will ever be a good coach for us. WEVE NEVER HAD A 4-28 SEASON IN MY LIFE. NAME A FIRST YEAR COACH WORTH ANYTHING THAT LOST 28 GAMES IN A SEASON. It’s not even just the win loss record. when you watch the games we were horrible. the dumb timeouts, the dumb play calls, the lack of play calls. dudes a bum. i don’t care that he’s black and he’s from louisville. the truth is that he can’t coach his way out of a paper bag. the truth is that he’s a kentucky alumn. NOT LOUISVILLE. The truth is that he was such a bad coach that coach cal had him coach the kentucky team from new york. they wanted him no where near the basketball team. y’all was so hype about the recruiting and transfer portal. truth is this mf big move in the off-season is to bring in a 4 star who quit on kentucky and illinois. give me a break dawg. like i said. who cares that he’s black. he’s a bum and i want a new coach.
