  • LIKE/FAV for Paper Goodness! Can I borrow your pencil? Music Below:
    Here are the items you will need.
    1. A number 2 pencil (Better if you get a 2B pencil from the art store)
    2. A thick piece of paper
    3. A single LED
    Graphite is a pretty terrible electric conductor but it works well enough to do some cool stuff with paper.
    We can actually make a fully working circuit as well as a flashlight using the 3 items above. Check it out and let
    us know what you think!

    The confusion with lead and graphite is, for many years Lead has been used before in pencil. But they were removed and changed to graphite, mainly because lead is very poisonous and harmful to the human body.
    People, lead is a type of metal, and graphite is carbon (like diamond). The reason we still call it lead is because the name is stuck as a trademark to pencils. Just go with the flow.

    The use of a graphite pencil is interesting since the material is conductive, it would be necessary to test, I do not know if I have already done it, what difference is there in using B 2b 3b 4b there are perhaps conductive differences and they could be seen instead of using a led use a tester or multimeter and see how the values vary another option that occurs to me is to use the old carbon paper which is based on graphite which stains the fingers when touched, the new ones do not work because they are not based on graphics and use binder

      Oyun Öncesi Define "Computer" If you have an incredibly broad definition where a computer is literally anything electronic then yes you could make a "computer." However if you define it as something that can process and store data than things get a little complicated.

    •  9 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Killagoku PC you are right but still possibble. Everything is made by + - current. So even it doesn't worth making a computer by pencil, its still posibble theorically. But you will need a huge sheets of paper to make a computer

    My background is in visual art but have recently gone on a geology and chemistry info wiki-binge. I can't believe I've lived for 33 years and didn't know that graphite is a semimetal and conductive. Of course my next thought was "wait.. does that mean you can make a circuit board on paper??" and youtube has provided in satiating my curiosity.
    As an artist I'm happy to see that the experimenter used good artist graphite to conduct their experiment.

      @munchmafuziquchi2965 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You could make a 50::50 voltage divider with two input terminals. If only one of the inputs is high, then the signal output is 50% of V(source). If both inputs are low, signal out is GND. If both inputs are high, signal out is V(source). With the proper amount of amplification and attenuation to accentuate the difference, you have a resistive "and" gate.

    Reminds me of my overclocking days when some pencil marks on a AMD Athlon XP would unlock it (IIRC), and some marks on the new $550 video card along with the Vaseline on the top side so when the TEC got to cold and made it frost up on top or the phase change cooling on the cpu dripped condensation on it it wouldn't fry it.
    In jail pencils can be used by sticking a wire in the electric outlet and touching the pencil across to light cigarettes and stuff but you had to be careful to make sure there was enough resistance or it would blow the breaker on the TV and the guard would have to reset it

    This would have been great for my science fair idea! This was the most coolest thing I've ever seen. It would be really funny if someone came up with this idea because they did it at the last minute for a project and got an A.

      Try using the scientific method before you come to a conclusion, especially one as silly as yours. Get a graphite pencil, a piece of paper, some scrap electronics, and there you go. Better yet just take a car battery and then just hold both ends at the same time.

    Correction, you made a crude graphene circuit. Graphite as in pencil lead isn’t super conductive, but as a contingent 1 atom thick layer of graphite, it has super conductive properties!

  • @ativerc
    @ativerc 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Here's the thing! When you draw a line with your graphite pencil you are depositing carbon on paper. Carbon is present in resistors. And if you are drawing thin lines, you are essentially "Drawing" a resistor. :) But if you make the lines thicker, you are drawing a conductor (with a pretty high resistance though). But I guess the resistance will decrease once you make it thick enough!!

    I know that electric motor contacts are made of graphite. I have several graphite rods found near an abandoned smelter. I want to make a switch that can carry alot of current without contact welding the switch which results in a runaway closed circuit. Bad. I could probably get the same results from a fat piece of lead or brass. But graphite is also a lubricant and may work better if it doesn't cut current like a resistor.

    if you dont have LED or other light bulb and are NOT working near easily flammable stuff you can use a short piece of the pencil/graphite as a light bulb itself, or a fire starter for that matter if you touch it with a stick.

    the pencil lead contains graphene , graphene is a material that its atomic form is like a hexagon shape , this material is a conductor of electricity and is resistant but transparent if things of graphene are created.
