Honestly Joseph Seed was my favourite antagonist of the series. Vaas was incredible, don’t get me wrong, but there was just something about Joseph, the true belief in that he did, the fact that you question yourself playing it right towards the end, that’s what made him truly awesome.
It's simply his execution of the character. Extremely good actor that conveyed a sense of power that felt otherworldly but in the end it was the people he brainwashed that made him this way. In his continuity he was right about the so called apocalypse. The sad part is he could of preparing for it himself without starting a cult.
I don't know why but I always found something so nostalgic about the game and the setting. It's like you can almost feel like when your walking around you have been there in real life. The characters make it look so relatable and the music makes it so emotional. Farcry 5 will always have a special place in my heart
Agreed. Sure, you're running around being an action hero and gunning down cultists, but then there's those little moments of peace that really reflect just how REAL the game feels. My favorite couple moments were getting in the car with Hurk to go rescue his dad's Jeep and Hurk is just having a friendly conversation while "All Right Now" plays on the radio, a song I've always associated with driving somewhere. But by far my favorite was wandering through a valley in the Whitetail Mountain region late at night on my New Game+ playthrough and coming across a pair of campers sitting at a bonfire by the river. I decided to stop a minute and sit with them (even if they weren't real people) and one started playing the guitar. My jaw dropped when he started singing "Let us pause in life's pleasures and count it's many tears...", and I started singing along purely out of reflex. "Hard Times Come Again No More" is one of my favorite folk tunes and it really touched a chord in that moment, as whoever they got to record that did one of the most beautiful renditions I've ever heard. The bittersweet irony of a song about wishing away all of life's struggles playing in a peaceful moment in a world where you live a life of death, destruction and mayhem, knowing full well how the story would end, but having this one moment of solace... I started crying. Truly an amazing game with such rich storytelling and themes.
@@barragethree5047 so true I remember hearing one of the songs Ophelia from luminaires in the game and since then it's just been so nostalgic just hearing that song. It makes you think of a country lifestyle
I really hope we can see and hear Greg (Greg's voice) in futures games. He has a lot of potential to become an excellent voice actor, i hope Greg become a top tier voice actor and end up like Nolan North and Troy Baker.
i agree, this man has potential to share his voice in some incredibly good games, i can imagine him lending his talent for games like Last of Us II or something
GateGate Those antagonists did also have backstories but I feel like this one is also going even deeper with what he feels to be a greater sense of purpose behind his actions. For that, I feel it may end up being way more immersive fighting against him and alongside those who want to bring him down for they too all have their own backstories and purposes. #StayTactical
GateGate Pagan betrayed and killed the Royal family when he show up in Kyrat and then Ishwari made him a slightly better person. Hoyt was mistreated by his father and if Hoyt had never discovered the rook islands, Vaas would still be a rakyat warrior living in peace with the tribe
From what I remember he killed his own men because they shot up the bus, and he fought the rebellion. Even then he’s not bad. Now that I think about it the 15 min ending is the most logical.
His comments about how the player would be unsettled and question after these moments of empathy are so right. There were a surprising number of times in the game I found myself being swayed by him, times he made far to much sense.
Yeah, during the game I’m like “using scopolamine (irl bliss, that’s what those flowers are) to brainwash masses and murdering countless people, in how how did it was too extreme… so his choice of action I didn’t agree with, BUT…. His choice of words were extremely accurate. His views on how the world are are pinpoint. Was my favourite “villain” by far. The most captivated I was by him is when John is torturing you by “cleansing” you. And then Joseph, while you’re high on bliss, actually sounds like a god, and the “you have to love them John, don’t let your sim prevent that”, and the look on johns face, like a naughty boy caught red handed, looking down in shame said SO much. Then he holds his hands out and you’re drawn in to Joseph. That really captivated me. I almost wished I was actually experiencing that.
You know what's more dangerous than a Villain is ? A Villain you Empathize and Agree with. He was right in the end after all. What an Absolutely Incredible Performance.
So. I've just finished the game. And I can hands down say that Greg Bryk is an amazing actor! He really put some life into Joseph. And it was so fucking weird in the end (In a good way. Not gonna spoil anything for those, sinners, who haven't played it yet.) He's on my top 20 of all time game villains. I'm gonna leave it there.
I think, and while this is mildly concerning to me, in a way I fell for Joseph as a villain. He believed what he was preaching, you could tell all the way into the end. He held staunch, and in a way... that profound empathy Greg spoke about was from his very first appearance in the game. Joseph parted his followers, stifled the rising violence and held his hands outward to the debuty, facing up as if reaching for their hands. He did not hold malice in that moment. Vaas was questionable, Pagan was too, but Joseph is so.... genuine. He's different from the other two.
"Have I told you the definition of insanity?" Asked Vaas to Joseph. He replied "Have you confessed? I shall show you the path to your righteousness..."
48some And does that mean Far Cry 5 also exist in the same univerese as Far Cry 3 and 4. I mean Hurk is in this and he appeared in all the Far Cry games since Far Cry 3.
Yaba Kain Sorry but you a U.S. Marshal and the rest of the deputies are there to arrest Joseph. The U.S Marshal has a arrest warrant for Joseph for kidnapping. You may even like Joseph but it does not change the fact that he take over Hope County and the Eden's Gates is murdering innocent people
You know when they say that an actor/actress was a perfect cast for a role? This is an example of that situation. They knocked it out of the park with this actor.
He nailed his character so brilliantly. Joseph IS so dangerous in the depth of his love and his dogged commitment to his ideals. The Far Cry experience will always owe a lot Michael Mando and Vaas in terms of fleshing out a truly compelling villain but for me Joseph Seed will always be my favourite.
I don’t know that I would be as obsessed with this game as I am if it weren’t for this man’s brilliant acting and dedication to the role. Phenomenal work.
I think what makes the whole Seed family so excellent is that they all look kind. Even Jacob to a degree, looks so much like someone you know or have met. They are largely soft spoken. But where the others, particularly John and Jacob would really rather kill you if not for their brother wanting to spare you once you've pushed them too far, Joseph is always trying to get you to come around, all the way down to the end. It's why he saves you and takes you to the bunker with him. Unlike the other three, that ultimately lose faith in you, he never does, even as you slowly dismantle his family. Perhaps the most fascinating villain you are ever likely to see in video games.
Greg Bryk is the perfect choice for the role as Joseph Seed. The whole character is totally fascinating! His deeds are good but his doings are just all wrong! I never felt so touched by a video game character before! Really really epic game!
“I think it’s impossible to really understand somebody, what they want, what they believe, and not love them the way they love themselves.” -orson scott card
The Father is like Thanos. A calm, but menacing villain. You understand their goals. It's not like other bad guys where they do evil things out of spite. You see their end result and you know why they want to achieve it. I love this villain.
Does anyone know, if you can choose sides in this game of if it's linear black and white story? I would like to join the father, for me it's a deciding point whether I buy this game or not.
I just want to say a big thankyou to the entire Ubisoft crew that worked on such an incredible game. Thankyou Greg and to all the other actors for such talent, I know all of you guys get paid for great talent, but I just wanted to convey my gratitude and awe as well
In Far Cry franchise the devs focus more on the antagonist more than the story in a way that the narrative comes from a different perspective which makes it something very special than other single player shooters, at the end of the journey in each and every game you're in the last stages of the story you face not only the antagonist but a moral dilemma and if you consider the background of every "villain" in Far Cry they're right on something, the 5th though, Joseph and his family has aggravated the morality of what is right and what's wrong to new heights !! Good work Ubi and thank you for this amazing game !!
I haven’t yet beaten the game. I’m on the 3rd county section, (last point before you get to him) and I agree with what he says in this trailer. His methods are inexcusable and fucked up, but what he says is like understandable to some degree. What hit me hardest (mild spoilers) So far is when he’s in the bliss with you and shows you a nuke going off and all he wants his to make a world NOT with that risk in it with only love and care. And speaking of love, the way he speaks of love and lost love is so deep too. His problem is to stay that well mannered and calm and deep in his thoughts, he takes his aggression out in the worst ways. So you hate him, but what he SAYS does in fact make you go “well he’s kinda right there” Very smart writing.
I don’t understand why reviewers trashed the story. If you ignore all the in between and just consider the cut scenes and the specific dialogue from the main characters, it’s a pretty compelling story. The father in particular, he’s a nutbar..but even after everything you do to him he still gives you a chance. SPOILER I tried to take his offer at the end, but the game doesn’t really let you. The most influential and memorable villains in Far Cry have been the ones where the person behind them fully puts themselves in the shoes of the character. Michael Mando playing Vaas went on his acting instinct, shaping him into a twisted, yet surprisingly natural reflection of Mando, while Greg Bryk as Joseph Seed fully knows the role he’s playing, embraces it, and looks at the character in a different light to separate himself from the “I’m playing the bad guy” mentality. I feel that’s what made Pagan Min feel less interesting compared to Vaas and Joseph, and I really hope Ubisoft recognizes this and does something similar in Far Cry 6.
Joseph Seed is the real definition of an "angel in a form of a devil but in reality a sinner that was in the wrong path" thank you Greg for giving life to the Father
I am honestly a tad bit obsessed with the Seed brothers. It didn't take long for them to be among my favorite "bad guys" (especially John and Joseph). I love all of the depth and dark tones in the game and the villains are so well rounded that you actually feel something (maybe a pang of guilt?) when you kill them.
I thought I was the only one that thought of Matthew McConaughey lol if they ever do a FAR CRY TV SHOW like on HBO or SHOWTIME I would love it if they made matthew the father
Hey ubi, what if you continue with the story of Far Cry 5? That would be more than amazing. It's such a great story with an open ending and therefore you can be creative.
I never saw Joseph as a villain. He was a father protecting his children from dangerous side of modernity. Everything he says has truth and meaning. His words came to be true at the end. Ubisoft added this green imaginary drug in the game to sort of vilify his community but it is nothing but a symbol that represents faith and devotion.
I really hope that Ubisoft has developed something beyond the means of shock value for the sake of pushing sales... Hearing this helps out a lot though. I really want Joseph Seed to be up there with Handsome Jack.
kleiner spender lol woah slow down buddy. We are only 3 months in 2018 you can't say it's the best game of this year. Besides everyone has their opinions
Frostbite well he didn't say "best game of the year" so ya. But it is probably gonna be the best far cry because it took everything people loved in the old games and combined them into one game.
I hated Vaas so much! I wanted to kill him so badly! For me that was what made him the best villain ever! With Pagan, I was glad I had the option of not killing him because I actually liked him. I'm curious how I'm going to feel about The Father. Keeping an open mind.

I’m not a believer at all, but oh how Joseph spoke about God... oh, damn it, I wanted to cry.
He reminds me so much of Matthew McConaughey. Too bad they couldn’t cast him for the role! This dude is a good actor though!
Nicholas Molinaro so true
I like him for this character more than McConaughey. He did a tremendous job.
I dont think they could afford mathew
I thought I was the only one that thought of Matthew McConaughey lol if they ever do a FAR CRY TV SHOW like on HBO or SHOWTIME I would love it if they made matthew the father
Nicholas Molinaro Its better with people you don't know and aren't famous. Makes it more authentic
It’s actually the father praise be to you
I'm being reminded of Jared Leto quite a bit, with both the character and the actor playing him.
Knight of Ren me too!
Knight of Ren they sound similar too! 👏
he reminds me of rick grimes from the Walking Dead, maybe its his eyes
This is honestly a really good video and got me really excited for this game.
Hey ubi, what if you continue with the story of Far Cry 5? That would be more than amazing. It's such a great story with an open ending and therefore you can be creative.
He deserved an oscar for his acting in far cry 5. some of the best acting I have ever seen
Beautifull
we will rise again...we will rise again
Awsome
I never saw Joseph as a villain. He was a father protecting his children from dangerous side of modernity. Everything he says has truth and meaning. His words came to be true at the end. Ubisoft added this green imaginary drug in the game to sort of vilify his community but it is nothing but a symbol that represents faith and devotion.
I really hope that Ubisoft has developed something beyond the means of shock value for the sake of pushing sales... Hearing this helps out a lot though. I really want Joseph Seed to be up there with Handsome Jack.
Le Draq Handsome Jack is my second favorite villain ever. Right after Vaas.
Handsome Jack?
Azrael Brown Borderlands 2
Timothy Rush oooh okay thanks
Well he doesn't like walls, and apparently lowkey Trump as you'll find out later in the game.
Thank you Ubisoft for this awesome game!
My guess is that the Father's intentions are good, but his way of going about it is too cruel.
That could be very much be the case.
Let's just say there is a secret ending...
more like hes david koresh lite
Pete Holmes I've been thinking that exact same thing LOL
True indeed
Video was so good I almost cried
The best game farcry5
kleiner spender lol woah slow down buddy. We are only 3 months in 2018 you can't say it's the best game of this year. Besides everyone has their opinions
Frostbite well he didn't say "best game of the year" so ya. But it is probably gonna be the best far cry because it took everything people loved in the old games and combined them into one game.
It's not out
kleiner spender lol wait for god of war
And the game has not even released yet...the heck
Absolutely loved this guy
I hated Vaas so much! I wanted to kill him so badly! For me that was what made him the best villain ever! With Pagan, I was glad I had the option of not killing him because I actually liked him. I'm curious how I'm going to feel about The Father. Keeping an open mind.
How did you end up feeling about him?
You did an amazing job, Greg
0:22 deleted cutscene??
Late comment, but idk
A bit later comment, idk
@@AdenDay Prob story was changed to some extent, and Rook tried to help Joseph? Could also be a mod for fun maybe
It’s in the game during one of your hallucinations
@@HauntFreak13 not with faith walking with Joseph like this
Hes so amazing as the father hes the first actor ive seen whos so into his own character
Mathew Mcconaughey is that you ?
how does a viscious cult leader look like such a nice person
Is this the same actor from Frontier?
And Bitten.
