    Adam, idea for an ART TALK:
    1. How to do a branding for yourself as an artist that is genuine and that people would care about.
    2. How to stick to one path when you love many things.
    3. What to do when you meet someone who treats you like sh*t in life or has envy towards you.
    Greetings from Argentina! I want to have an Art Channel too hahs, you are a great inspiration for me :)

    Been looking at software like Milanote ever since this video. I must say one thing that is destroying me: The recurring subscription price-tag. I’ve looked into the dozens on the saturated note-taking market, and I find that any that are *good* exclusively charge subscriptions! I’d be so happy to pay $100 or even $200 just once so I could have my own Milanote that I could host on my own server. Until then, I suppose I’ll keep note-taking in .txt files and in Procreate. And one day I might program my own Milanote that doesn’t cost $12/month for myself; the hardest part of that project is simply getting the look-and-feel good (a large commitment) - functionality between a web frontend/backend to be cross-platform is an easy enough thing I’ve done before.

    That milanote sounds like heaven. I think that would solve the issue of getting lost with ton of off topic things when you don't have to leave the app because you want to watch video example. It keeps you inside the app and in topic when it is time to work. I have been loking for something where I would be able to keep notes from my ideas but that is so much more with all the research you can keep in there. I may actually be able to get things done with this 😍

    Adam, I have an art talk idea on a topic that's been a problem for me for a long time now.
    I am in a rut. I feel like there's no will to create that comes to me anymore. every time I stare at my digital audio workstation, I just get this squeezed-gut like feeling, my brain gets this cramp feeling just from consuming the visual of this blank project file in front of me each time I open it up. My instruments and their timbres make me think good ways to use them but never motivate me.
    Now... the easy thing to say is "go away from music and art for a bit, do other things to make your mind rest from the constant demand to create".
    But... *Even doing other things... I don't feel rejuvenated from making music.... That's my problem.*
    - My distractions doesn't distract me.
    - My mind does not get a break from thinking art because I don't have anything else I considers a "fun thing to do".
    - None of my distractions click with me. When I go to the gym, or when I work, or when I scrolls though TH-cam or Twitter, or talk with others on Discord... I never feel like I ever get a break from... just the thought of art.
    - The idea of music and music making is stuck to my mind at all times like a parasite. It won't go away no matter how much I try to distract it.
    - I constantly think what other activities I can do but nothing clicks. It's all just... "tasks" rather than "activities."
    If you can Adam, could you make an art talk as an attempt to help my type of struggle.
    *My struggle that nothing seems to ever make me feel rejuvenated from... just the thought of music making and art in general.*
    I hope I am making a level of sense and that my wording is understandable. I've been known to not be able to articulate myself with complex questions and answers.

    I have been using simple note apps for noting and files here and there on my computer, also PureRef for moodboards. I love organising my life, I schedule my practice because I don't have much time to study.I started organizing my notes today and I think that milanote is as you said in one video the thing that clicked for me. I though of using Pureref to do it but milanote is just perfect with links and all. Thank your very much Adam!

    very appreciative for this video Adam. I was in an art rut yesterday, It felt like I had completely forgot how to draw. I started rushing in a desperate attempt to create something, but it was sloppy annd yeah, I hated it. On top of that I'm aware that there are so many other things I want to learn and do, like learning guitar, and it's becoming very frustrating trying to balance everything. So yesterday before I went to sleep I told myself I need to make a schedule and organize everything for productivity, and this morning, I'm doing that. So thank you, insanely a lot for this video, these apps will help a lot.

    recommendation for video ideas:
    How to judge yourself
    (specifically, how do I judge where I am and where to go in learning? what kind of structures can I set up to do this effectively, like weekly reflections? how do I stay on track and make sure I'm making progress?)
    Also, I like seeing your notes on software design, as someone who does software design myself. The funny thing about that embedded youtube video in that notetaking app is that it's really incredibly easy to do, yet so many designers might miss that feature.

    i'm stuck in my artblock already for 1 year and i had a problems from the very beginning of my artist journey, i never enjoyed the process, but i wanted to be a good artist and creating a beautiful worlds, characters, stories, designs, things and creatures that doesn't exist and many more, but in the end i'm only destroyed myself with constant fear of not become a good artist because i just can't work that hard, i barely drew 1 art for 2-3 months and after become exhausted and squeezed out to the rest of the next few months, and that's always happens even if my projects are simple, i don't know how people living this life, because i just can't do anything at all, i can't even think about drawing something and touching a papper and my pencils, i just can't anymore, my brain refuses to do anything and now i'm just living without ever getting out of bed at least (or i just sitting my whole day after day, week after week, month after month, just in front of my computer and do nothing, mostly just staring at it), every time i triying to do something, i'm just instantly becomes exhausted and depressed, feeling myself very bad and feel a huge pain in my chest that i just want to stop existing in this very moment, because this pain is unbearable, and that's the reason of why i can't do anything, i can't enjoy the process and i don't know how to enjoy doing things at all, i was like that my whole life, it's applying to anything, not only drawing, even games, which supposed to be a fun, becomes a place for same problems if i have troubles with my skills there and need to train hard to become better at it, i can't afford and find a good psychotherapist in the place i living, and of course i can't afford because i can't do anything, so how i'm supposed to get money if i can't work because of how terrible my mind and health is, i assuming this happens mostly because i became a hostage of my fear of failure (wrong, i meant to say "fear of getting hurt") that i just can't even touch it without hurting myself instantly with a terrible pain and consequences for the next few days/weeks/months, i'm avoiding any activity because i don't want to feel this terrible pain and despair ever again, and no matter how many years i'm searching for answers to my question, i can't find the way to fix myself and become able to do things... i'm suffering in agony every single day just because of this fact that i can't enjoy things and can't do anything while everyone around loving and enjoying to do something and doing something, i want to be a person, not an empty vessel, which became a living corpse with no sparkles in it's eyes. Also one more reason - AI, we don't have a chances to survive, because everything is gonna be replaced by AI and no one gonna pay you money (ESPECIALLY WITH THE FACT THAT MOST OF US ARE NOT THE BEST PROFESSIONALS), also all world crisises, economical troubles, nuclear threat and many more. I lost my hope in future and my life at all. Just want to stop existing to not experiencing this existential crisis.

    I tried out Milanote after the last video and (for now) I only use if as a checklist program for keeping track of the project, since I make every character in separate documents, and it helped so far, especially with visualizing how the project is going and giving a little satisfaction as I check in finished parts. I love your point about fleeting thoughts. As a writer, it is the literal single reason I never recommend that anybody read "On Writing" by Stephen King when they're starting out.
    That someone might believe him when he says you shouldn't carry a notebook because any thought you can't remember on your own later isn't worth remembering is just too dangerous.

    Hi Adam, my suggestion for a video would be about good ergonomics, physical set-up tips for drawing on tablets, and preventing strain.
    I’m pretty new to digital and have noticed I have way more of a tight grip and press harder using an Apple pencil on an iPad than I ever do when drawing with ink or pencil... probably some settings I need to tweak but I’d be curious about how you have your cintaq set up, angles, heights, etc. as I’m planning to upgrade from the iPad soon. I bet it would be useful to other novices/changeover folks too.

    Adam, first off thank you again for all your thoughtful videos. I was wondering if you could do a video follow-up to this talking about those who, for want of better phrasing, can't even do this much. So you have the apps and the schedules, you start to use them, but sticking to them is hard and eventually you fall off the wagon. People who are skilled and intelligent but are temperamentally wired to work better with outside muses, outside accountability, outside structure and order (low trait-conscientious people), who need accountability partners and bosses but don't have anyone or anything like that in their lives. People who have to be their own accountability partners but can't be for whatever reason. What do those people do to bootstrap themselves? Hope that makes sense.
    I often find I will ignore an app after a while because there are no consequences to it. If I am at work, or doing something for a friend or family member, it's easier to stay motivated and disciplined, but not for myself.

    Hey if I'm not too late, I have a topic I would love discussed that would be perfect to hear your thoughts on as I don't see it discussed often if ever. Its an attitude that I had to overcome personally that brought me to success in a different creative industry.
    I think the topic would be best labeled as "Art Elitism"?
    I see a lot of younger artists especially get trapped up in kind of a "cork-sniffer" attitude that severely hinders growth. It manifests in a few ways from having an over reverence of the craft that hinders a persons ability to take any steps forward for fear of not living up. To getting their personal worth and identity tied up into the craft of being an artist and needing the validation from their work that will simply not happen once you get into the real world industry where you are expected to be able to handle criticism easily. There are lots of other forms this attitude takes and other roadblocks you will give yourself thinking this way. But it really revolves around some people thinking that art is special and they are special for dedicating themselves to it. (as if an old mechanic replacing your break pads hasn't dedicated hundreds of thousands of hours to his craft and perfecting everything they do to a car.) Art is a service based industry ultimately to make a client happy (If you are intent on a career) and you should not view yourself as special for doing it, other than that you get to do what you love for a living. Anyway your thoughts on this topic would be really insightful and weather you agree, disagree and why.
    CONTEXT (am mid 30s doofus who completely changed careers to art at the beginning of the pandemic, who has already had a career in another creative industry who personally struggled with being held back by these mentalities)

    Hi, your precious puddy-tat, Ghibli(?), looks like a Ragdoll or a medium to long-haired Seal Point Siamese!
    I have 2 ideas for your Art Talks. I haven't looked through all of your videos, so if I suggest something you've done already, I do apologize.
    •1st idea for an Art Talk: I've been held back for the last 7+ years because of 1 thing that I call---> Overanalysis Paralysis. I'm not a digital artist, I create fine art on silk. I research my subjects and research and research and research---
    I've even been buying all matter of things to try different ideas for suspending the silk (the art turns out the best when the silk is suspended). I dislike how long it takes to suspend the silk to the PVC frame and I come up with all kinds of ways. Just recently, after realizing that my latest idea won't work, it dawned on me....I am using this dislike of my frame as an excuse to put off working!
    I've always researched and created some type of step-by-step plan to get through my pieces. I've also always found art more stressful than being a 911 operator, fire & police dispatcher, medic and emergency medical dispatcher. I recently was told that it was because of my need for a plan or something written out. Mr. Shoo Rayner is the kind artist who helped me with that.
    Anyway, the overdoing of research actually being an excuse for procrastinating starting or working on any art.
    •2nd idea for an Art Talk: perfectionism is the enemy of "done".
    That's all I have for now.

    I cant recall if he mentioned this or not but does Adam go into Pinterest and begin to create a new board of references every time he enters a new idea on Milanote? Just wondering, trying to create a new workflow and I love his ideas. I've been using Evernote but I feel like my love for Evernote has slowly been expiring and now I'm so glad to discover Milanote. Thank you, Adam!

    Hey, I want to try to adapt your working process and do some research on my own and I was wondering how you research mythology and folklore, especially the lesser-known stuff? I often get inspired by books since I enjoy reading but I never really dedicated time to research specific creatures or anything else to get inspired by.

    Hey Adam, I haven't seen this video yet, though I'm sure it's awesome as usual. I comment to ask you if you could check on Kelsey Rodriguez, since you did a video with her recently. She uploaded a video talking about her abhorrent hate comments and it is truly, truly heatbreaking to listen. I don't know, it's just that she and I we are the same age and if it was me some words of encouragement from an artist I admire and care for like you would surely help, especially since you guys do know each other. Maybe you have already done so, if so, thank you and nevermind. I will proceed now to enjoy this video, much love ♥

  • @manis77

    I assume I know the answer to this question but do you use the paid version of Milanote? I feel the free plan would be too restrictive for me personally but if they allow 100 notes 100 images and 100 links instead of 100 limit altogether then I think I'd use it.
    Also, do you use a Calendar app? How would you go about planning with that? I timeblock personally and I hear it's really good to timeblock

    • @AdamDuffArt
      @AdamDuffArt  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh definitely - I use it for everything so I really benefit from the paid plan
      You can get far with the free one if you manage it though

    Ngl I really wish being disorganised was a factor in my procrastination and art block (paralysis?) because then it would be a simple fix :,)
    Anyhow, thank you so much for making this video, I think Milanote could help enormously with my college art projects! (looks like you can watch youtube videos *with subtitles* from inside the app?!)
    One thing I don’t think you mentioned is how far the free version goes. The website says ‘no time limit’, but also ‘100 notes, images or links and 10 file uploads’ - is that generous? Milanote seems super useful, I just don’t want to put lots of effort into using it only to hit a wall early on (I can’t afford more subscriptions 😅)

    When it comes to Slavic mythology, the scary thing is when they start to tell you stories about creatures lurking in the forest (they start with the stories in your childhood) always claiming to know people who've seen it. We usually hear the stories if we grew up on the countryside, near the woodland area. Most common are vilinsko kolo and drekavac - both taking you to some netherworld until the roosters crow. To this day I can't be indifferent 😬😅
    P.S. Gimli is LOVE!!!! 🐈

    • @shinkamui
      @shinkamui 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      its also quite like that in my country hahah, despite being an ocean away. I really revel in that bit of playful fear. It's a lot more fun than the cold fear of actual human problems, like fear of being fired, financial insecurity, wars and what not. Sometimes we just need a nice ugly netherworld-abudcting creature to have some fun with that little primal part of our minds for a change c:

    • @Solitaryblackcat5
      @Solitaryblackcat5 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@shinkamui Exactly! Sometimes it's bettter to have fear of the unknown than to be faced with everyday problems- I think that is what folklore was for 🧜‍♀️

    Miranote has some interesting ideas. Doesn't seem to have a one-to-one export to a non proprietary format though. Correct me if I'm wrong on that., that particular missing feature means a hard no from me.

    • @AdamDuffArt
      @AdamDuffArt  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Vish, I just found this on google
      To export a board:
      Ensure you're not working directly on your home board, since your Home board cannot be exported. Click Export from the top right of the board. Choose from one of our available export formats: PDF Standard, PDF Large, PNG, Word, Markdown, Plain text.

    • @vishtem33
      @vishtem33 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AdamDuffArt I did find that page before posting my comment. I concluded that the image formats and PDF definitely wouldn't retain semantic information except by visual convention, Markdown may retain some semantic information, and plain text probably retains less than MD.
      Overall it's better than nothing, but I can't really tell whether it's adequate.
