    This video was extremely helpful to me. Thanks to this video I was able to successfully complete the same job on my nephew and nieces car. The tool that was invented for that one screw was the difference between success and frustration. This video is very well done and easy to follow. You have a new fan in Texas!

    This video added to a previous video by removing he latch along with the handle as one assembly. Very nice. I've been sitting on the new part for 5 months and I'm finally tired of reaching around from the back seat to open the drivers door. I've replaced way too many components in car doors over the years and dread doing it but with your video and the previous I now know what to do and knowing is half the battle.

    I did this today and learned that there is no need to take out the window or work to get out the screw behind the window. Once you get the screw from the left and remove the outside handle and key lock cover, go ahead and unscrew the latch (3 screws on the side of the door). Now when you put your hand in, slide the handle bracket to the right (towards the front of the car) and it comes right out. Notice on the outside of the door the channel next to the white plastic piece. Take it all out like a spider and replace the bracket. Once you have it all together, make sure you screw the screw on the white piece all the way in before re-installing. When you are ready, the white piece go in first and slide it to the left (towards the back of the car), then adjust the lock, screw the latch back on and go back to screw the screw on the left of the bracket (the one by the cylinder). Finish assembling back the door panel and that is it.

      Definitely no reason for the window but it makes it another thing to reinstall..good notes to add

      You might just have saved me. I'm doing this tomorrow and when I was looking at it to figure what I needed to order I was like how tf am I getting that screw behind the glass.

    • @paulnicholson5997
      @paulnicholson5997 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Brett Cooper you probably already did this replacement, the screw behind the glass is easier if you remove the screw that holds the glass in place and the 2 left window guide rail screws, then that screw is easier to access. I even had a special tiny ratchet and had to move the window glass guide rails.

    Thank you SO MUCH for making this video. I've got a 2010 and I REALLY wish I had watched your video first. Made the mistake of watching a similar how-to by another youtuber and was pulling my hair out trying to unhook the linkages inside the door. Unbolting the door latch made it so much easier.

    Very helpful video. I had a T-20 Torx allen key style tool for the screw under the glass. I was able to buy the correct replacement part and saved $$$ at RockAuto. Went crazy and bought the more expensive Dorman part. Mine was broken the same exact way. I broke some of the door panel clips taking it off and bought a package of 25 at clipsandfasteners so I have many left over. You can't just buy one or two. If anyone wants any let me know. :)

    Thanks for the step by step. I replaced the handle on my 2006 focus and this 2011 I own now is much more difficult. I wish you had shown the door handle being removed, took me awhile to figure that it snaps out because I didn't want to force it. I also have a special tiny ratchet set I bought years ago that helped me with that screw behind the glass. I still needed more space, so I unbolted the left window bracket and the 2 screws that held down the left window guide rail. That made it much easier to access that pain of a screw behind the glass. Other than that, I appreciate the video. Thanks a bunch.

      @Al Young Cuda You got it, I would have been screwed without good folks like yourself showing even moderately experience home mechanics, like myself, the specifics. I sure would like to give the designer of that screw position a piece of my mind though, that crap was idiotic. Thanks again bro, happy holidays to you. Oh, BTW, I have a 2011 SES, so the handle is body colored. I'm glad that part wasn't the issue, my internal mechanism broke in the exact same place as shown in your video. Thankfully I ordered both parts just in case and decided to do the tear down today so I wouldn't have to do the entire job all at once. Thanks again for the video.

    Most excellent video. Invaluable information! But the fastener from Hell almost won. My addition to this would be to remove the glass. Before you take out the window switch lower the glass. Then remove speaker, 4 7mm fasteners. Disconnect the speaker and window switch. Loosen the two nylon clamps and lift the glass out. There are two struts that the glass rides in. You want the one on your left that is blocking access to the T-20 from Hell. Remove the top bolt, and loosen the bottom one a turn or two. Gently pull the top of the strut to the left. Put your T-20 bit into a 1/4” socket on a 1/4” drive with a extension. The hole in the door lines up with the fastener. After an hour of fumbling it was so nice just to hit it solidly like this. Just remember the angles that you worked the glass out with and reverse it.
    And used a Dorman assembly from Auto Zone. Tab with screw snapped off as I was tightening it. $60. Called the local Ford dealer. $39 and twice the quality.
    Again, great job on the video!

Taking apart the entire door looks like fun, as long as I have time to mess around with it. My 2011 Ford Focus SES has been a great performer with minimal work beyond regular maintenance. Now, I have rust on the skirts because it got beneath the undercoating/rustproofing and bubbled out the paint to hell.
