- In February 2018, during the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang South Korea, a cyber attack struck, wiping out a lot of the Olympic’s digital infrastructure. Teams rushed to get things back up, but it was bad. Malware had repeatedly wiped the domain controllers rendering a lot of the network unusable. Who would do such a thing?

I've been in that situation, not at the size of the world watching, but setting up a conference of a few 40k people relying on the network and this is insane, the adrenalin dump an IT worker gets during this has got to be like being in a war... It is the most stress you will have,but hats off to that IT staff that spent 12 hours rebuilding everything.

Love the stories you produce like many other people on here. As someone who has competed in athletics I think you are selling the Olympics short. It is a very big deal to not be allowed to the next Olympics because of doping charges. This is the reason why the hack was done. I am not surprised in the slightest that they wasted so much time and resources on trying to make the party go bust.

This effort they had made to infiltrate especially the timing services, makes me believe that they had originally hoped that they could make their 'athletes' partake in the Winter Games (by interim disposal?), and when that didn't work out, they instead tried to sabotage the games over all.

@@leobracken2316 There are many interesting Videos here on YT that talk about it. It is much more than a few bullet points that can be summed up in a few sentences. It's complicated and becomes a Rabbit Hole that goes deep. I'd say start with learning about the Olympic Committee, look into what happened in Brazil during construction for the Games as well as how often these facilities end up abandoned and that's just the biggest problems I have with the Olympics off the top of my head. There is more to it than that, but this is a YT comment response after all ;) The Olympics is a great idea, but it damages so many People's lives that I can't support it in its current state. It is similar to FIFA corruption, that's another Rabbit Hole that may be even worse. You are right though, two wrongs don't make a right- I've become a cynical Person. But hey, if you do look into it, it is very interesting. It kind of sucks that the most interesting things to learn about ends up being at the cost of other's Happiness (not just this, History in general)

Moralistic posturing against Russia is incredibly silly, looking at the big picture. The official indictment was as much of a "toddler response" as anything else going on here, in the context of car-bombing the daughter of an important Russian nationalist figure, or inviting the Iranian general to Iraq just to drone bomb him on the tarmac the moment he steps off the plane. Those are the "serious actions of adults" on our side. There are no good guys or people utterly above petty acts of malice on any side when it comes to this stuff.
