The Vaccines have been announced as 3rd in the Sound of 2011.
Indie quartet The Vaccines have left many in the music industry frothing at the mouth with excitement since they bounded onto the scene with a TH-cam clip of track If You Wanna. The clip sparked the attention of Franz Ferdinand managers Supervision, and ignited a whirlwind of positive press and blog coverage, which continues to this day.
Frontman Justin Young had found minor success with indie folk project Jay Jay Pistolet, coming to the fore alongside friends Laura Marling, Noah & The Whale and one time flatmate Marcus Mumford. Failing to hit the heights of his counterparts Young decided to change style, forming The Vaccines with Freddie Cowan, who had played live with his brother Tom's band The Horrors in the past. Icelandic bass player Arni Hjorver and drummer Pete Robertson soon completed the line up.
A sold-out October appearance at London's 300 capacity Flowerpot saw 200 more eager fans turned away and also saw Clash Music refer to the band as "game changers...that will launch a hundred wannabees", before punchy double A side debut Wreckin' Bar (Ra Ra Ra) / Blow It Up won over the likes of NME and Radio 1's Zane Lowe, who claimed the band would "kickstart a new era".
A deal with Columbia Records and an appearance on Later... with Jools Holland followed, before the NME signed the four piece up for the illustrious opening slot on their 2011 Awards Tour.

This gives me hope, if a band like this can be the sound of 2011, i could be the sound of 2012 :D

@SteveFusionX It's a pity that some people can dismiss a band due to their name's. What if, for example, The Smiths hadn't became famous? No one would've batted an eyelid at such a simple, common name for a band.

These guys are alright and might develop into something, but game changers? Based on what? A couple of songs? A few hundred people showing up for a gig? Being in the same social circle as other hipsters?
If You Wanna is a pretty decent song, but it would have been just an album track on some mid-1970's power pop LP. This illustrates how far down the tubes the music biz has gone when a song or a band is subject to stupid hype not because they're great but simply because they're not shit.

I got nothing against the band.. as I said - I havent heard their music. I just think it's a bad name - considering the amount of PRO-vaccine propaganda we are bombarded with the past few months. Simple names are fine with me -but names that advertise a POLITICAL (especially pro-NWO) agenda are something else.

Whatever. This band and Brother are the sort of bands that would drive me to form a band against their ethos and music because they are'nt rock and roll. Their music is shite. C'mon people. Right, my band is against this sort of stuff. They are calculated and with that, cold and transparent. Brother used to be an emo band , fact, and The vaccines are a manufactured "indie" band. Look it up pop pickers.
