In addition to his huge gifts as an actor and singer, Jonathan Groff is incredibly thoughtful, articulate and honest about his process as a performer. Such great generosity of spirit! :-)
2 years late but I wanted to let you know that yours are my favorite Jonathan Groff interviews. I love that you gave him opened ended questions. Thank you
The principal part was very weird to me. What was weird was the fact that Holden was the only one to really take it seriously. I think Holden was right, and even though I'm sorry for the principal, and I could have had some doubts about him believing his actions were just innocent... he had been asked to stop, by partents, by collegues, by an FBI agent. His insistence to continue anyway made the fact really troubling. And what is wrong with Debbie? She was maybe the only one to take the thing seriosly only to turn on Holden when he actually may have done something about it? Wasn't the principal a pervert in her opinion? I think the point of that story is showing the slippery slope Holden was entering. The fact that he was starting to think he could predict the future and what a person will become. But whether or not the principal would become a pedophile, he had to stop.

I only lasted 20 seconds before pausing to see what books are on Jonathan's shelf. Unfortunately I can barely see titles. I see Taipei (Tao Lin), Maus (Art Speigelman) The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay (Michael Chabon) and a biography of Tennessee Williams (John Lahr).
I tried to read the titles as well. Maus is a masterpiece, a fucking must, especially if you're Jewish. It's good to know he's connected to his roots and exploring them.
With any other person, this level of CU would make me deeply uncomfortable. With Groff, it feels %100 natural, and welcoming. His is the purest expression of selfless love I've ever experienced.
Holden's girlfriend, Debbie, creeped me out. I did notice Holden's focus on himself and his need to have all things point his way. I think Debbie might have felt as long as she was adoring of Holden, things were fine. Holden did not seem to reciprocate discussions that much.
He could be autistic which was my first thought about 35 minutes into the pilot, he doesn't have to be a psychopath. But I do agree with that theory and it's not right to say a psychopath in the making because you're born a psychopath, but something is definitely wrong with him. I haven't finished watching the series yet so maybe he's referring to things I haven't seen so far. He's fascinating, first and foremost.
I wish my face would look that good with a camera angle like that.
I think it's impossible for Jonathan to look bad.
Don't we all.
this made me laugh. it's true though!
RIGHT?!
Yeah and I think he would look great with a beard as well.

The man's talent is immense. I'm excited to see what he does when the pandemic is over!
A Looking special would be so amazing!
